Title: Help..my waistband's too short
Post by: tigrlily64 on March 21, 2009, 02:33:12 PM
I've been using Red Dawn's skirt pattern, and I ran into a little snag.

After measuring and cutting out the waistband, with the interfacing, sewing the two ends together, I checked it around my waist, and it barely fit.  There was between 1/2-1" overlap, when there's supposed to be four.

Is there any way to salvage this?  Can I add fabric, or leave it the way it is?

If it were me, and I had enough fabric, I'd just cut a new one, but... I don't see why you couldn't just add another couple of inches to what you already have.

I would suggest the same as gem did.

I *third* what Gem & Lady K said, plus I'd like to add an additional suggestion before you cut out yet another waistband to find it doesn't fit either:

If you're going to wear this skirt (I'm not familiar with the pattern) with another skirt underneath, or a forepart or farthingale or a corset, in short, with any other layer underneath that goes around your waist, you will probably want to measure your waist while wearing all the layers just mentioned so that you don't end up with another waistband that is just a tad too snug.

Been there, done that--not fun.

HTH!
