OK...SOOOO...here we go again. I have gotten lots of feedback over the years reguarding campgrounds. I know what I like when I'm camping, I know that different people expect different things, and I know some things just can't be helped (like weather and other peoples kids). SOOO...that said...
WHERE DO YA WANNA CAMP?? I'll list your choices below. If you feel so moved make a post about where you'd like to stay or what your thoughts are, please do.You can camp as a group or on your own at the same or separate campgrounds. If you have any questions, please ask. I hope this proves to be helpful and more people are satisfied this year.
Hotels/motels are always booked this weekend due to a local event. If your willing to pay perhaps you can find one with a bit of a drive.
For group camping this is what I've got:
Ogston's RV park - this is the one I've been trying to get the last couple of years. it's really close to the faire site. tenting is in a field around a lil private pond, very pretty. You can sample this one this yr and see what ya think $18/tent/night
Spirit Mountain - this doesnt have to be walk-in (sites a-J) like last time. there is group/field tenting or you can pay for individual spots.
Water and Electric Sites:
$32.00 per night [1-12, 15, 18-44]
Electric Only Sites:
$30.00 per night [ 13, 14, 16, 17, 45-73]
Walk-In Tenting:
$20.00 per night [Field, Upper and Lower Primitive Walk-ins, and Sites A-J]
Saginaw Campground - that's where it was last yr. Closer to faire, field camping on highway and train tracks?? not ideal. around $20/tent/night
KOA Cloquet will most likely be closed as they are rebuilding after a fire.
I believe this is where people plan to camp:
Ogston's:
Saginaw: Tarac, dustmanmn
Spirit Mt:
I'm curious about this new place. Being strictly an RV Park, are there any sheltered areas for tents or is it all in the open? Any more info/pictures you can round up would be fantastic.
That being said;
I like Spirit Mountain and would camp there again any time. I preferred the walk in sites for their privacy, but I know a few people didn't care for that. There are always the roadside sites they have too.
Saginaw, the place we stayed last year? No thanks...once was enough in this lifetime. *blargh*
I'm planning on coming this year for sure, I got the time off approved for the whole weekend!! so I have wed- sun off and dont work monday until 3:30 in the afternoon YEAH!!! Get me a place to pitch my tent preferably in some shade and I'm happy. Not sure yet who is coming with me..
Blessed Be
We'll be tenting, so any place with a little bit of shade is fine with us. Ogston's sounds interesting.
I plan on staying at Saginaw with my wife and kids. Anyone is welcome to stay with us, we also will have a group of about 8 others with us.
I vote Saginaw it wasn't too bad and this time we will have a camper trailer hopefully. ;D
Does the Ogston's campsite have showers like the others?
My thoughts reading the blurb about Ogstons: Pond + Summer in MN = Massive mosquito population.

Ouch...you might have a point there. Of course, there are massive amounts of dragonflies up there that time of year, so that may balance it out too.
We just set up our group camp at Saginaw, anyone is welcome to join our camp and enjoy merriment and mayhem.

yes
are there really that many mosquitos in spring?? I'm useda camping along the MN river in Shakopee in summer/fall. Now that brings out all the biting critters
Perhaps if we do Saginaw, we can request our group site on the other side of the grounds... i.e. Away from the highway! ::)
I'll look into this as there looked to be a better spot up the hill.

Yeah that does seem a dumb place to put tenters altho I don't think they have alot of tenters in that area.
Also, in talking with people it seems the folks stayin at Saginaw will be more kid oriented so if you are one who prefers a quieter stay Ogston's or Spirit Mt. might be better.
I should mention my 12 yr old and 7 yr old daughters will be with us this year. They are used to mayhem and bawdy humor from parties at my house.
I'm thinking Spirit Mountain sounds the best because of the electric hook-up I need for my camper... hey I'm getting old I just don't do the ground anymore ;)

Ogstons is an RV park. They have the hookups as well, but not tent sites with electric.
I am bringing this from DB's camping poll thread.
I didn't do a poll because I know people are looking for different things and thus it would be better to have people camp at different places based on their preferences.
Hoping this will spell it out:
ie: *if you have younger kids you may prefer to camp at Saginaw with people who are bringing children
*If you prefer tree cover and don't mind a hike there's walk-in at Spirit MT. if you don't want a lil hike then pay $10-12 for tree cover and yes it's a 20 min drive to fest
* If trees aren't a big deal then there's Ogston's which is less than 5 mins from fest
Guess what? I am going to once again be up there for Twig! Though I am not planning to work (sorry Goody, things got too crazy for me this year) I am planning to camp and go to fest both days. My parents would like to come out for one day once again so they'll be about too. I'll try to be on more often now to keep up with what the plans are.
As far as camping goes, I'm for whatever everyone wants to try this year.

I was just gonna write to you to see if u were coming!!
My friend's funeral was yesterday so I met up with my partying past and we decided to pretest the Loki. It is good!! Can't wait for the partying to begin!
Let me know what you all think will work best for camping and where to send money etc..... I'll be up there the week before fest.
Howdy! Scott, Laurel and I will be camping at Saginaw. Any advice? Let's see....away from highway, and yes, we would like to be around other Twig-folk.
When you get there just let the owner know that you are with the fest group. God save you all HaHa haaaaaa :D ;D
Sounds great!!! Thanks for your hospitality to join! We are very much looking forward to it! 8)
Sounds like most everybody is staying at Saginaw then? I haven't made a reservation yet, so I need to know where people are staying!
I hope they have a different group area but I think it will be the same as last year.
Does anyone have any contact info or a phone number for Saginaw campground? I need to reserve a spot, but can't find any info!
We are going to be at Spirit Mountain Friday morning and not heading home til Monday, I know atleast a couple others will also be there. My Daughter and I will have my little old pop-up camper parked in site #46. Beware of dog - she licks!

It sounds like Kael and I will be up for Twig but not until Saturday morning. We'll meet you all at faire. We'll most likely "camp" in the van Saturday night then drive back Sunday morning. Sounds like it's Saginaw, yes?
*edit*
Heading for Spirit Mountain.
In talking to people it seemed Spirit Mountain is where most people are staying. We have planned a breakfast at my house Saturday morning as it is close to Spirit Mountain.
I'm off to Siouxland now!!!
I have the group camp reserved at Saginaw and will be bringing my two girls ages 12 and 7. Anyone is welcome to attend our camp we will be up sometime friday morning to set up.
I'm afraid I'm going to miss Twig. :'( :(We have sort of an emergency situation and we're going to have to move my Grandma that weekend. Yup. It's going to be ugly-again.
I hope you all have a wonderful time.

A little bit of rain on Saturday but otherwise the weather was pretty nice. I posted a few pics on facebook, everyone seemed to be having a good time:

Thanks for the pics! Hopefully I'll have mine online within a day or so!
so when are pics ging to be up???
I would like to hear from the people (Lori) who stayed at Ogston's. Can you please give us a review of your experience there?
Ogston's was a very nice place to stay. It is an RV park, and I think I had the only pop-up camper there. We were also allowed to put up a tent for additional people staying on our campsite and that made it easy for people to find us (didn't see any other tents). The showers and bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Most of the campers were long-term residents with decks and storage sheds, who also used the facilities in their rv's, so the bathrooms weren't busy. There wasn't much noise past about 10:30, so if you want to party all night it's probably not the place you want to stay. The trees are still small and there's not much privacy, but we weren't there much. It cost $25 per night which included the electrical hookup and they don't take credit cards - strictly cash or check. I plan on staying there again next year.
Hey DB how are the Twig pictures coming?
