I am going to try and make it to both...especially since the latter begins the day after my 21st!
I was wondering if there is anything else in between now and John Levique, or between then and Sarasota Medieval Faire? And then again, between then and BARF? Yes, the withdrawls have begun, and now I'm looking up everything within my somewhat kinda sorta local area to be able to do...
Also, I know it's WAY in advanced...but who will be going to Sarasota Medieval Faire?
Between Sarasota and BARF is the Gainesville Medieval Faire.
There is also the Ringling Fair and the Ft. Myers Fair (this one is in January I believe). There is also the Florida Pirate Festival in St. Pete in late Jan/early Feb
Lastly there is always FLARF which runs almost the same weekends as BARF but starts like 2 weeks earlier (which is the height of stupidity in my opinion; but as yet no one has asked ::))
I did actually look up FLARF like two weeks ago and was saddened and dissappointed that they have them both running about the same time...cause I'd love to attend both every weekend of them! But, alas, 'tis what it is.
And thank you, Mickey!!!
This is so exciting! We feel the same way...we will definitely be going to both!! We now have to get pirate garb, etc. We love these things! In between, we tend to do other stuff locally like The International Food and Wine Festival at Epcot. It's a lot of fun (eating and drinking...eating and drinking...), but unfortunately there is no dressing up (unless you want to be a Disney character :P). So, if you find out about anything else...please let us know! Thanks!

OH, Damn you just reminded me! - The Pirate and Princess Party at WDW. That is a pretty good time (no grog is sold though). Let me know when you two are going to F&W at Epcot. I am thinking that we are taking the family the weekend after Easter, but will go back at the drop of a hat!
As for the pirate garb, the coats that I wore this season I can have made for you at an incredibly cheap price. If interested, PM me for details (or just to say hi!). THere should be enough time to get them done for John's Pass
Hey Mickey...you are too kind!! We typically go to the Food and Wine Festival in October. Last year, a group of probably 45 + (friends of friends of friends, etc.) met up for a weekend and had a blast! We will keep you posted! We just got season passes, so we want to check out some of the other parks as well.
One other thing, I spoke to some of you about the HMS Harbinger. We will be pulling that magnificent craft out of dry dock in the near future. Part of her charter will be too do charitable work, some of which will be visiting The Shriners and St. Joesephs Children's Hospital in garb to cheer those there. We will also likely be doing garb pub crawls (Tiger Lee has been having great success with them in St. Augustine), Gasperilla, and many other events over the year many of them to raise money for charities (such as Toys 4 Tots).
If you are interested in learning more, PM me and also check out http://www.ifrp.org/ (http://www.ifrp.org/) to learn more about International Fellowship of Royal Privateers

I need to get pirate garb as well, however I may end up dong what I did for my faire garb and just browse the mall and chop things up...XD
And what are you talking about? You can dress up for the F&W festivals...just, be prepared for funny looks...

Oh, dudh. Brain is still a bit rum and cider soaked. Its Flower and Garden right now. We also have the season pass and haven't been since January (due to BARF) so the family is raring to go next weekend!
Can you imagine a large group of us dressed in our BARF garb going to the F&W festival? How funny!!! That would be a site! ;D
I think that would be a great idea actually! Obviously they more than likely wouldn't allow even peice-tied weapons...but that'd be one hell of a get together...and it could be annual...Hmm... *starts thinking of a plan to get all the RFs in their Garb to Food and Wine...*

No way that they would allow anything other than plastic or maybe wooden ones. I think it would be AWESOME. You have to figure that most of the people there would simply think that it was part of the "Show". It would take some brass b@lls to be sure (and more than a few pints), but it would be fun...
Actually, I wonder how many of us would actually do that! We may need to do a roll call on it, and figure out a day and all of that...*runs off with a calendar and a pen and a notebook...*

Lady of the Lakes! Now there is a Ren Fair worth waiting for!
John Levique is two days after my birthday. I can't think of a more fun way to enjoy my 32nd birthday. Does anyone ever stay in any of the hotels across the street? I'm thinking that may be the way to go, since we live in Lakeland and driving to St. Pete on the weekend, down I-4 and then 275, can be QUITE a lengthy drive. Maybe if we all stay at the same hotel, we can get a group discount? ;D
Would anyone really be up for going to the Food and Wine festival in garb? David and I are loving the idea, and he's actually looking to go camping some time soon up there and we starting thinking we could bring our garb and meet up with everyone...just a thought...thought it'd be fun!

Might wanna call first, love....The Disney Juggernaut might take it the wrong way if'n you show up and the rest of the 'guests' think you are part of the show.. I think it would be
great fun. But they may have control issues...
But hey, John's Pass will be in a coupla months!
Does anyone know how one might become part of the cast for John Levique? Are they looking for anyone? Captain Anne?

What ARE you thinking?!?! :-P

No, what ARGGHHHH ya thinkin'
There's also Camelot Days in November, south of FlaRF.
LJ's right, Lady of the Lakes is a great faire, first of the season down here and many of the merchants and performers making it their first southern stop. LotL's us up here with us, north of Orlando.
On a Sunday at 10 AM (ish) walking by the beer cart and the bartenders raise holy smoke signals to Seamus and I that WE have not been there yet this AM at Lady of the Lakes! I was only there for 1/2 of the day before! We even had our own plastic cups, with our names on it so they did not need to throw any out as the beer was poured for us. Hey, we were helping out the environment! I know Seamus and I negotiated extra weekends instead of just one. Not sure if it worked, but we had the Ben Kenobi thing at least in theory working.
Don't know if they're going to do open cast call this year. Will find out.
And unlike ren fest, we drink unless we are fighting or firing weapons... hehehe.

Arrrr...it's good to be a Pirate. ;D
For anyone who's not been to John's Pass, be sure to stop in to the wine shop there. The sell a killer meade. Cant' think of the name just now, bu they'll give you a sample if you ask. About $45 but so good.
oooh and their Key Lime wine!!!
mmmm..may have to do a little more 'sploring in the aisles while I'm there. :)
This information on the wine has made me start to ask my mom to go! And the Key Lime Wine sounds great!

Please let me know if you are indeed opening up cast calls. That sounds like something that I would very much love to participate in. I came to open auditions for BARF but never made it past the sign in when I saw how much time I would not be able to be there.
One weekend though, that I can do and I have missed doing any theatre of any kind for the last many years. It would do my heart good to get back into anything I could, and as a pirate, well, I have been a practicing for the last 7 weeks or so... ;) :) ;D

OHo! I'd forgotten about that one! :)
Any chance John's pass has anything like the pear cider that is sold at B.A.R.F? I love that stuff!
I don't recall any of the bars having it on stock, but I could have missed something. Johns Pass doesn't do the beer pubs like a usual faire. All the restaurants are open and in full swing though. Ever been to Johns pass? It's a neat place.
No, I've never been. I'm really looking forward to finally experiencing things outside of just Renaissance Festivals. Ya'll don't know how grateful I am to have found this forum. Hugs to everyone! :-*
Make sure you buy the Pub Crawl Pass! It gets you a free beer, munchies and/or swag from the bars and merchants at John's Pass. It usually comes with a t-shirt commemorating your pilgrimage of shame.....

I always bring a cooler of snacks and bottled water to leave in my car. Probably the easiest tip there is, but I was oblivious to it at first. You never know when you're going to get wiped from the heat and I know my blood sugar can drop really quickly. That cooler in the car has saved me a dozen times. :)

Second that.....it'll be hot as the hinges of h*ll since the "site" is paved asphalt streets. STAY HYDRATED (with water first :D ) or you'll not enjoy the day like you should!

Thirding the boys and agreeing with Wenchie on the sunscreen and dressing lightly (us harlots do!) ;-)
And Gatorade or Electrolyte powder is a must.
You can get little "crystal light" style sticks of it at Wal-Mart and they fit great in a pouch!
And cranberry pills for the ladies if you're going to be out for most of the day!
