This is the time when I post the list of states that can be volunteered for, for the next RenDezvous. This year due to computer issues I couldn't do a full listing of faires, so I'll list the states.
Please remember the rules:
Planning Committee
2.Everyone will have one month (from today, May 3rd) in which to announce that they'd like to plan next years RenDezvous.
3.In order to be in the running for the RenDezvous the faire must have at least two people to plan the gathering.
These are the states which are open for people to volunteer for:
Northeast: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York
East: Can not be in the running until 2013
Southeast: Can not be in the running until 2012
Midwest: Can not be in the running until 2011
Southwest: Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico (Texas Renaissance Festival can not be in the running)
West: California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado
Northwest: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska
The Bayou Scoundrel's will host at LARF,2010.
A question.
East, Southeast, & Midwest can't be in the running because a Rendezvous was held there.
But the rest of the Southwest except Texas can be in the running, even though Texas had the first Rendezvous.
Why are the other whole areas out of the running for Rendezvous rather than just the state that had the Rendezvous in it?
I must be missing something, but I can't figure it out, so thanks for letting me know.
Didn't have something to do with the fact that there are 2 or 3 faires in Texas? I don't remember either, just a guess.

I think that a region can be considered every 4 years or something like that. TRF had the first Rendezvous, but we have about 8 other faires in our state! It's not the state, just the faire.
I'd like to go on the boards for wanting to plan RenDezvous at Scarby for Memorial day weekend, that is, unless there's a big push for LARF, which I will support as well.
Well,
Short of the needed bodies, I would like to throw AZ in the ring. Presidents Day Weekend, the first faire of the season, no snow, good people, great acts and during that time of the year, a slew of other things to do here in sunny AZ.
Viscomte
My vote goes to AZ if they are in the running!! ;D

Lady Renee, Blue is right. The rules state:
Quote2.A faire cannot be considered again for ten years or until the section has been chosen twice.
3.A section cannot be considered for four years. (In other words in 2010 the Southwest section can be in the running but Texas Renaissance Festival cannot be in the running until 2016.)
I would like to see Sterling host. What does it entail to be a host?
Let me know.....
irish
Right now "VOTES" are not needed. and from the above posts, there is only one volunteer to Host....
What it will take now is "TWO" people to agree to be the "Hosts" for the next Rendevoux. Those two need to post that they agree to be the Host and then that faire will be in the running for the next step of the process. Trust me this will not be an easy task so make sure your volunteers are dedicated to putting the event on should you win.
Once you have your two people and the faires are put forward as to those that have "Hosts", then you need to start making a pitch as to why your faire should be considered, put together a package of Hotels in the area, Campgrounds, Airports and distances and drive times, a place to have dinner on Friday nite for those arriving from out of state for a sort of meet and greet and another place on Saturday nite to gather as well as those in the campgrounds and hotels will need dinner again. Also it is nice if the Friday nite place serves drinks, many are worn out on Sat nite and only stay long enough for dinner. Basically put together the reasons we should all vote for your faire to host rendevous. It will be better to have as much information in the pitch as possible as you only get one chance at getting everyones vote.

Okies......I just called my brother, Norm, who is on vacation in California......he will help me host Sterling! Also, my best friend will help, too! ;D
My brother is on a tourism board, so that's a good thing!!! ::)
Sterling is a great faire! YOU need to come see it!!!
irish
I will co-host for Scarby
Thank you for answering my question about the region. It makes perfect sense upon hearing it, and I agree completely that it's a great idea. I just couldn't figure it out, and am glad now that I understand. ;D

Because this gathering is the official R/F.com yearly gathering, we'd prefer that the hosts be established members of the forum itself. (Unless your brother already is a member?) Otherwise, we'd like to see someone who is already a member of the forum be the other co-host.
If its allowed for there to be a third, I'd like to help co-host for Scarborough also, alongside Blue and Duckie.
if so that sounds excellent eloquent

Capt.SIN you have until the 3rd of June to find one other victim...eerm...volunteer to help you host the RenDezvous
For those willing to host please see the rules on campaigning:
1.After we know which faires are in the running we ask that each person planning the gathering to write up a paragraph or two about why we should choose their faire and to give us general information about the faire; i.e. times, dates, prices, camping, etc. You can do a write up as a group.
2.These paragraphs will be sent to LadyJessica who will post the paragraph along with who wrote it under one thread, which will remain locked.
3.If you have any general questions about what someone has said please Renmail that person and ask them.
4.There will be no why-my-faire-is-better-than-your-faire politics. If the Mods start to see these posts they will be deleted.
5.If you want to have more people vote for your faire you may post reminders within said faire's section in the forum.
Hosts you have until midnight of June 3rd to get those posts to me.

Lady Jessica are you counting Capt.Sin as one or are you counting the Bayou Scoundrels as one?

While I now that you were going to help in order for it to be faire I have to have at least one other from the BS crew to say that they'll help. Now that you've said you'll help LARF can go into the running as well.
*chuckling* I'm sure you'll hear more from the BS crew sometimes Tuesday. Right now I think they're all at Scarby for closing weekend.
In the running:
LARF (Louisiana) - Hosts: Capt.SIN and Pat McGroin
Scarborough Faire (Texas) - Hosts: Blue66669, Duckie84, and eloquentXI
AZRF (Arizona) - Hosts: Viscomte de Arcadia and Julianne

Hosts you have until midnight of June 3rd to get those posts to me. Voting will begin on June 4th.
For those in the running, is it possible to know what dates they plan to host the rendevous.
I would like to go to all 4 of these ... voting is going to be tough!
Once a faire is picked, then the date is selected, but if it helps any (and please anyone correct me if I am wrong):
LARF runs Nov-Dec
Scarby runs Apr-May
AZRF runs Feb-March
Sterling runs July-Aug
Can I vote yet, can I vote yet, can I vote yet???
Daddy at Rendezvous, now that would be something to see!
So, when does the voting start?
If I read correctly voting starts on June 4.
LARF Dates: Nov 7 to Dec 13, 2009 and Friday Nov 27th (day after Thanksgiving). I know you said dates would be picked after the faire is selected, but it seems to me that dates would/could affect voting. The Bayou Scoundrels are suggesting closing weekend, but anything after Thanksgiving would work. (TRF runs through Thanksgiving)
Is there any way for dates to be posted before the vote for which faire? The dates of the faire, almost as much as the location, will make a difference for my vote, and I'm sure a lot of people are in the same situation.
Due to our business, there are certain times of year we can't get away, and they overlap with a little of each of the faires nominated. Let's say faire ABC is chosen. We can't go to RenDezvous if the first 3 weekends are chosen, but can go if it's one of the other weekends. On the other hand, faire DEF has dates when we can go.
So it will matter to me what the dates of the faire are, because I don't want to vote for faire ABC and find out they chose a time when we can't go, but faire DEF's dates were at a time when we could go, so I would vote for that faire.
For AZRF, the Viscomte and I (as hosts) only considered President's Day Weekend which runs February 13th, 14th, and 15th.
I agree with Lady Renee.....the dates make a huge difference in which faire gets my vote.....I will make every attempt to be at Rendevoux, but some dates will not work at all for my schedule.
The Scarby Group is kicking around ideas for either opening weekend (April 10/11) or sometime in late April (April 24/25). We haven't come to any decisions yet, but we are all pretty much of the mind that Memorial Day Weekend is too damn hot to be enjoyable, so I don't believe that it's even being considered. That, and there are a few other gatherings going on across the country that weekend...
Tossing out my opinion on Sterling RenDezvous dates..........
The first weekend, July 3rd & 4th, is considered Children's Weekend. That would be fine for those that have kids, but at the same time, it is a hectic weekend for travel. I think a holiday, should not be considered at all.
Now the last week in July, Oswego has a "Harbor fest" on Lake Ontario. Hotels and camp sites are usually SRO, by that date.
I think August is a good time for the RenDezvous. Maybe the first weekend, which will be the 7th & 8th.
irish ;D
Last chance for any other faire to raise their flag for hosting. I'll be posting the voting thread tonight before going to bed, so you have until about 11pm central.
I know it's a bit late, but have smaller Faires ever been selected as Rendezvous sites? If so, please consider Ravenshire Renaissance & Pirate Faire as a possibility for 2010; it's in Western CO, in wine country, has two nearby meaderies, and several off-site accomodation options, and may even allow some on-site camping, if their people know you well enough...some of our R/F.com members here were actually at our Faire this year and have participated in RRF for years. I will co-host, if we end up in the running.
M'Lady, I believe that Scarborough Faire in TX has been voted in for the 2010 Rendezvous. In the mean time, talk up your faire for next year's vote, for the 2011 meet. All faires are eligible. Good luck!!
Cheers!!
