I see that this faire made the short list, but am not seeing much discussion on it. Was already looking at which faire I would like to go to but know little about ARF.......
Can you all help out with information in this thread?
I was thinking the same thing! I had the pleasure of attending this Faire a few years ago. It is owned by the same people who own CRF. It boasts a 4-man joust troupe (Hanlon-Lees when I was there) with the very beautiful and majestic Superstition Mountains as the backdrop! My Dad & I enjoyed this faire, he lives in the Phoenix area and celebrates his birthday over the long President's Day Weekend, I hope they are our hosts! Especially since by February I am so done with the NC cold that a venture such as this would be most welcome... ramble, ramble, ramble... ::) 'Sides, then the Pyrate can meet Daddy! ok, think I'm done now... ;)
Well,
I will try to fill you in the best I can. I, the Viscomte de Arcadia and the lovely Lady Julianne are the hosts should our faire be the one you the RF'ers choose. Our faire is located in Gold Canyon, AZ, which is 30-45 min from Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, AZ. With 100% freeway access from the airport and neighboring hotel and camping choices, getting to and from the faire is very easy.
Our dates will be over Presidents Day weekend, Feb 12-15, 2009. Average temps during the day are in the mid 60's to mid 70's, perfect for the wearing of even the heaviest garb. Sunny skies and clear nights are the forecast for that time of the year, so Old Man Winter is somewhere else while you are here.
There is so much that can be said about the faire I can go on forever, but be it said, we are the first faire of the year, the entertainers that perform here try out all their new material for the new season on our playtrons, new items in every shop abound, food and drink like you have seen, some you may never have, friendly faces and people just happy to be back at faire, make it a great time for all.
Feel free to ask your questions, I will do my best to answer them.
Viscomte de Arcadia
Not that it should be a deciding factor... But ARF also has their liquor license...
which means you can buy shots or mixed drinks with hard liquor in them instead of just your normal beer and wine!
mmm... morning mimosas, breakfast shipwrecks and sea breezes.... oh and bloody marys of course
Yes indeed,
That is most times the day's plan at our fine faire.
We also have good beer too!
Viscomte
Camping and Hotels nearby the faire and the rates for such? Is there a place close by to have the Friday nite meet and greet and large enough to host a hundred or so with drinks and dinner? Is tailgating allowed in the mornings? Another place for dinner for the out of towners for Saturday Nite? Questions others will want answered when the voting starts. Also the dates that will be chosen for Rendevouz weekend? Will it be a holiday monday and will faire be open that day?
Let me see,
Camping and Hotels nearby the faire and the rates for such?
There are many budget rate hotel in the area, average rates run between $45-100 a night, depeding on your tastes.
Is there a place close by to have the Friday nite meet and greet and large enough to host a hundred or so with drinks and dinner?
Yes, we have two places already to hold such a gathering, one is Churchills Pub, the site of our Friday night local meetings, and their sister pub, Shakespears. The owner has offered both places for a meet and greet.
Is tailgating allowed in the mornings?
Yes, but alcohol is not allowed outside the gates. We will host a Sat morning breakfast before cannon for those attending.
Another place for dinner for the out of towner's for Saturday Night?
Yes, right now discussions are in the works for a dinner and concert with a special musical guest, or a masquerade ball, location to be determined.
Viscomte
Probably the best references we have are the out of towners who have visited before.
We've had folks from MNRF and CoRF who visit annualy.
I think (hope) they had a good time ;)
For Rendevous we will plan of course extra-special events which will be posted shortly in the Rendevous Thread but it looks like the Viscomte has generally outlined the schedule.
There is no doubt one will need transportation. As with most faires we are located on the outer skirts of the city. Mesa, Chandler, and Tempe will be your best cities with a range of accommodations. There are a few places in Apache Junction/Gold Canyon area.
Camping is not really a viable alternative as most of the snow-birds have those already.
Oh and one last thing.....we have flushies ;D
Yep to all,
And we have the French too!
Viscomte
Voting is open.
When I first joined the RF, a forum member from Arizona was one of the first to make me feel at home here. As I recall She was one of the main ones who presented the ideal of the Rendevous. She was also instrumental in setting up the voting for the first Rendevous. I know it wasn't easy, I remembered lots of drama. She pushed for a location in the center of the country so more people could attend, even though she couldn't. I hoping that if Rendevous is held near her she can attend.
RF
Thanks fpr the kind words about our fine faire and the folk who make it so special.

Awww...you are all so sweet.
Thus far though, it's not too promising.
Ah well, guess we'll have the mudslides to ourselves Muffin ;D
As much as I would like to visit any of the faires in the running, I'm hoping for ARF because it would be the easiest for myself to have the chance to attend. I've missed out on all but one Rendezvous, and I only made that one because it was my home faire. :)
Come on, ARF, rally the troops and get your votes on! ;D

:P More for us then!! and I know a neat spot we can go to and enjoy them.... ;)
I see that TX is in the lead... I would really like to see AZ pull this off, not just cause I love the faire and the people, but TX already had a Rendezvous, yes it was a different faire, but they are within 5 or so hours of eachother (possibly less)... (this does not lessen my affection for my TX peoples of course!! xoxo)
And that my dear Muffin is why I am going to MRF this year,
How else can I bask in your wenchy goodness twice in one season?

When and Where in Texas was a Rendevous?
If I'm not mistaken, the first RenDezvous was at TRF... it was 4 years ago, I think.
Thank you blue66669 sweetie for clarifying that date and place.
For those of you that have met us AZRF R/Fers you know who we are and that we'd love to host you and this forum and the Rendezvous. We'll do our best to make it special and fun...that's all I can say really.
I've nothing that can beat the overwhelming population of other states.
and..
Clearly, in the rules, Scarby is entitled to host the Rendezvous.
Y'all can still come and visit us anyway.
I'd love to attend. First faire of the season is a plus. More than likely I could make it anyway but I'm still hope ARF gets it.
RFP...that's very thoughtful of you and speaking on behalf of all of my peers I really appreciate your kind words.
That goes out to everyone who has supported our endeavor.
Regardless of who "wins" the Rendezvous 2010...having attended myself to the front runner...it'll be a grand event because of who we are anyway.
AZRF will still host a wonderful President's Day Weekend Meet 'n' Greet this year.
Courage Sister,
July 4 is a long way off, people can still vote.
Viscomte
I have a lot of friends from AZ, and I don't want to hurt any feelings, so I would like to explain to you why I voted for another faire, if you see my post in another thread.
While we would love to come to AZ, and have actually looked into coming in the past years, since RenDezvous is going to be over Valentine's Day, for sure we couldn't come. We own a restaurant, and as you can imagine, Valentine's Day is one of the busiest days of the year for us. Our restaurant is intimate and upscale (but if you know us -- definitely not stuffy), and we've had several marriage proposals take place there, especially on Valentine's Day. With the economy the way it is, we can't afford to close at a time when it is really busy, so RenDezvous in AZ this year wasn't an option for us, knowing it is over that weekend. If it was over a different weekend (and I'm sure the weekend chosen will probably work for the majority of folks, just not us), then it would be a difficult decision as to which faire to vote for.
So I didn't want to upset anyone, and I'm hoping that sometime in the future we can make it to your faire. Good luck whichever way the voting turns out, whether we can attend RenDezvous or not.
LRB
No troubles here me lady!
Do what you need to do first, what you want to do will come close after. Be it this time or next, we will get Rendevous here.
Viscomte
Lady Renee,
You never need apologize to anyone for how you cast your vote. It's the one thing we bring to this forum that is quite literally a display of democracy in action.
All Ren Faires bring joy and the wonderful thing is you can choose amongst so many to visit. That is afterall, why we are all here in the first place.
Having said that, the masqued ball we would have had indeed a Valentine's theme.
Damsels and Heroes, Princes among men and the Princesses they woo....all that sort of lovely, romantic, rose petals and amour stuff.*insert violen*
*weeps*
:D
I think it's a pity we can't just have four Rendevous this year, as no two are really in competion. Not for time slots nor for style of faire. Each really are so different!
Having said all *that* AZ you've got my vote. It's a great time of year to visit the desert and the Superstition Mnt's are lovely with the snow and those blue AZ skies. I have no doubt you all will show us a wonderful time in Chandler. It's a fun town as I recall and I expect the company will make it all the more so.
Have to find me a cowboy for that Valentine's thing... :)
I am pulling strong for AZ, because, well, I'm already planning on being there that weekend anyway! Most of the other faires will be hard for me to make work because I'm leaving the country in early July, and most of my funds between now and then will be geared toward that.
Fingers crossed!!
Just voted myself, not looking good.. :-[

Thanks Blue, must have been before I joined the forum.
Well it don't look real good for ARF right now,
Maybe we need to do something on our own for those who attend?
Viscomte
Don't give up, just make your package more attractive and talk it up during the next year....It took Maryland 3 times of coming in second before it finally won the Rendevous.....

There were a few "shill" accounts that were created after the start of voting that voted. We can delete the posts, but we have no way of deleting the votes in the poll or any way to even know what faire they voted for.
any idea when the new poll will be posted?
Hmmm
Seems to me that a simple " I vote for this faire" thread might sort things out.
Either that, or a council of RF'ers with the most experience meets and votes on where the next one should go. That way a faire that has less locals like ARF or LARF stands a chance of getting the honor of hosting.

Maybe we should just go alphabetically.

I think it would solve the post count, the shill votes and the "where to go next" question. Is there any reason that we could not at least run this idea by the "council of elders" of RF.com?.
I am all for the popular vote, but hell, the smaller faires will have a slim to none chance of hosting till the faires with larger population have first go.
Viscomte
TN does not have a large local group of RF members. It has six stages including the tournament field. But won Rendevous 08 due to smaller invasion in previous years. So get people addicted to your festival.

I've never been so humbled as to see all the votes that came in our way.
I'm so glad we tried.
It's so very hot here now. In a very few weeks many of us will be at MNRF enjoying the relief and having the utmost faire fun....it is all I dream about whilst I practice drunk karoake and mead mixing.
or something like that. ;D
slainte
I see a lot of support from MNRF. Just how far apart are AZRF and MN?
quite some distance, about 3/4 our fine nation....but I will say this, the folks from Minnesota are some of the greatest people to hang around with! Laborday in Mn is a great time, and we always enjoy having them down for Presidents day weekend

Can't wait to see you all!!
My "real" vacation this year is most desirous. Since I have been a working mother and starving artist for a few years now and have now returned to the working class outside of home...the time for revelry in unreality I do covet.
I can't wait to see all you again as well.
That's cool that you get to visit each others faire. There's a special bond there.
RFP
Yes it is a special bond, we are always excited to go to other faires, but especially to welcome others to our fine faire.
