Title: Boot Problem
Post by: Kymberleigh on June 07, 2009, 11:31:09 PM
While at Goodwill one day I found some really nice back lacing boots.  Since there wasn't a place to try them on, I held the sole up to my feet, and what do you know, they were big enough (size 11 women's' is hard to find boots in).  I bought them, for $5, and brought them home.  I finally tried them on and found they were about a size too big.  I've taken care of it not fitting on my foot (inserts help a lot) but the ankle is the main problem.  They are WAY too big.  One of my friends suggested wrapping an ace bandage around my ankle.  Any other suggestions?

Here's pics if that will help

PS.  It's real leather

If you take them to a shoe repair place they should be able to help you with it.  I have seen them resize an adults shoe to fit a six year old!  The fact that the shoes are real leather is a plus too.  It shouldn't cost you too much to get it done and is at least worth checking into.  My boots do the same thing but it's because I ride horses and I used to dance so I have large calves.  If the boots fit my calf they are big in the ankle!  I did the same as you and finally found a pair in the goodwill LOL.  Gotta love thrift stores for costuming help!

I'm sorry I can't be of much help with the sizing in the ankle...  but I agree about sending them to a prof. to see if they can be reworked somehow.  BUT...wow what an amazing find!  I wish I could run across some like that in my local thrift stores....  I've been on the lookout for a couple years now!  RENVY here!   ;D

I got really lucky.  I've been looking for tall boots for riding my horses that can be used with my stable costume for ren fest.  I found a pair at Goodwill after looking for over a year, Lands End like new leather tall boots.  Then the very next day I found an identical pair, just a different maker that still had tags on at a yard sale.  They were in my oldest daughters size.  When costuming for shows or ren fest I use thrift stores a lot.  Great place to find accessories and mugs!

You can use a leather garter strap around your ankle.  Or find a leather dog collar, cheap and most of the time period looking!
