Hello all,
I just heards about costume college from a post Cilean made a little while ago, and I was wondering if anyone has gone/ is going, what it's like, if it'sworth it to fly to California from the Midwest for it, that kind of stuff. Also, I was wondering if I could still register. The website says you can, but it doesn't look as though that's updated very often. I tried e-mailing someone about it, and haven't had a reply (although that was only two days ago ;) I'm a little anxious.)
Thanks for all your replies! It sounds like a blast, I'd love to go.
Wouldn't it be great to go?! But I thought Cilean said that 2009 sold out before 2008 was even over, just from registrations from the 2008 participants!
From what I have read, tickets, for the classes, are still available. I think some of the masquerade events are sold out though. They did a lottery this year, to give people, who weren't in attendance in 2008, a chance to attend.

:o Fascinating, I would love to attend sometime.
I've looked at attending it before. But a trip from here to there wasnt in my budget :-\ Maybe another year I can make it.
Ooh, that looks very cool. My wife would have a blast at that. Actually, I might, too, but I've never sewed a garment (or much of anything else) in my life.
In those years Judy doesn't attend, she generally visits the vendor area. Helps if you live in Southern California.
I have to say I adore Costume College, now I do have to mention it is not a Renaissance Period Centric. However we do have several classes pertaining to the Renaissance era.
Costume College is a 3 days full of classes and Monday you can go tour LA Clothing and Theater venues. We also have tons of costume related parties during the weekend.
So I heartily suggest if you can to set up for 2010, and I am trying my best to get 1560's as the theme!

I WANNA go!!
I just got an e-mail from the president of Costumer's Guild West, which runs Costume College and she said that yu can still sign up. The only thing is some of the classes are already closed, and you have to sign up within the next week or so.
I would love to go, but I don't think it's in the cards this year. Maybe next year.
I wish I could go to costume college! But I'll be away at work...
Cilean, when will you know the next year's theme?
#1. I have no idea when we will have the Theme for 2010. I wish I was part of that group who chooses, and I have asked Meagen about that myself.
The reason I think it would be a great fit is because so many people dress up at Gala on Saturday in Renaissance period clothing. We typically have a theme for the Gala which is this huge party and dinner for Saturday night. It is actually fun to sit and watch people come up to go to the gala, so many lovely gowns! It is a separate cost from Costume College and you can purchase tickets for Gala and not go to Costume College itself.
I was hoping for 1560's because it holds Mary, Queen of Scots as well as Elizabeth I, and the Enfantas of Spain. I know a lot of costumers now whom I think would jump at the chance to come to Costume College and have some fun.

Ninya and Jane are supposed to be in the US during 2010, I think during this time period so it would be awesome to have them at this event as well! So I am asking, pleading and begging for the 1560's to be the theme of next Costume College, but I have only 1 small voice, if many people suggested then I think we could sway the vote. I personally would ask every costumer I know to come and do a talk or workshop. I know many within the SCA but I have also met many outside of that venue and are respected pattern makers and professional costumers.
So I am hoping but that is all I can do is hope!

PLEASE Let Costume College Know Rennies Want a Year too!!!!!!
I was just chatting with the Dean of Costume College and it seems we need to help them along to see that yes people would LIKE to have a year with Renaissance as a theme!
So here is the site: www.costumecollege.org (http://www.costumecollege.org)
I have but 1 voice, while it is loud and proud, if the powers that be saw that others would enjoy and possibly attend a year that was focused on Renaissance issues from around the globe, I think it would so help us in getting this accomplished. Perhaps not next year but ....2011 ?!!
I also asked how I could be the Dean of Costume College since it is the Dean who picks from what I can understand, I could be wrong also!
By the way? I work for United Airlines....I could arrange buddy passes----Just sayin'!!!
Where there is a will, you betcha there will be a way!
;D Cilean
I"m in for taht one.
I just wish I could get there at all...
