Who gave you your faire name, and what's the story behind it?
For whatever reason, neither Hubby or I have faire names... he's been 'around' much longer than I have...
Just wondering about this phenomena that's passed us up!
(And yeah, Ive got an idea of a name I might like, but now everyone knows me by my proper name, I dunno- lol and it kinda doesn't seem right to just PICK a name, when we don't do personas, etc...)
Well, I got a faire name a long time ago, but it never stuck. They called me "Shelf", well, due to my large "tracks of land", and the fact that I have the ability to hold numerous untold treasures within the keepe of my bodice.
People call me Blue mostly, but that's a forum thing.
Shelf just doesn't seem right.
I'm a Fraser of Lovat... i just added a "t" as to not insult my cousin Simon.
I went by my real name for quite a few years out of faire, but since having this name bestowed onto me I've been using it for around 4 years now. The story behide it well, lets just say I plead the fifth on the grounds that it IS self incriminating. Only one person on these boards were there that weekend and I haven't seen Koolagh post in a very long time so I thinnk I'm safe, lol.
My name is Theodore Hief, or T. Hief which spells Thief.
Merlin...well ... because I am Merlin.
Even in my kilt...I will always be Merlin.
Hey Bellevivre! I am living proof that you CAN pick a Faire Name and have it stick! Martin Montgomery at your sevice at any faire I attend and irl Monte Martin. Just pick one name and as you attend more Faires the people will add "Extras" as they see fit. Some of the other "Extras" I have picked up are The Marshall of McLotofus, The Lord of the Dance (Please Don't Ask) and Hey,Big Guy!

Not to mention when you hand out pins with MM on them...people remember ya !
Anything would be better than some names i can come up with... or ones that i've called people on occasion.
Hell, some of the names I've been called... As*hole being a nice one.
The name I was given @ TRF and it has stuck, is "Boobies". I got it the year I worked for Goblin King Leather, by the Goblin Queen. It started as a joke because she would come into the shop each morning and drum on the girls (Will Smith, Wild Wild West). Before I knew it, everyone I met that year began calling me by that name, and they still do. Recently I have been called Wyckdblyss at faire, but that is from the Forum, and myspace...and only because not everyone knows my real name...lol
Um well... Mine is hard to explain
At some point someone started calling me Teach
I think it's because I'm a teacher...
In reality, my absolute fav pirate to read about is Edward Teach (AKA Blackbeard). When I originally started trying to do the pirate thang that was what I was going for. I realized quickly that I wasn't going ever quite pull off the Blackbeard look but the nickname stuck.
It suits me
*I also get called "That Rum Guy" quite a lot... dunno why*
Now why would they call you the Rum Guy, Teach...I can't seem to figure that one out ;)
I may have to make up some favors- goodness knows I have time- but what sort of favor would Doxy McMoxie give out? ;)
Do you want an honest answer or just let the wise cracks roll?
A lotta people either call me Elle or Elo because of my forum name, which has been my screenname on many different things for several years. But more than being called that, people call me Meg cause my name is Megan. I dunno, I've never had much of a character because I am who I am, whether at faire or elsewhere!
Fraser- this IS a Ren board isnt it? I'd be deeply disappointed without wisecracks!
My name is RenRobin. I like Ren faires and my real name is Robin. I know not very imaginative, but I do respond to both Ren and Robin.
Lo these many years ago, the group I was hanging with said "you gotta pick a name or we will". So I choose Tavern Knight from an old Sabatini novel I was reading at the time. I used that name for many years and a lot of people still remember me that way & I'll still answer to it. Then a few years ago, Yahell completely ate my ID and I was going thru a breakup at the same time so I decided to remake myself. So here I am as Ravic.
'Zardoz' of course comes from the 1974 cult film by John Boorman. It was the best Sci-Fi movie starring Sean Connery made in 1974 in Ireland! I have been a card carrying member of that cult since the 70's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zardoz
I started using Zardoz maybe 15 or 20 years ago as a handle for playing NTN, a national bar trivia game. I just thought a name that is sort of it's own trivia question and had a little connection to Ireland would be cool. When I got on the interweb I started using it as a handle on various fora, and there you go...
I have to admit, after getting involved here with the RF forum, it did sort of freak me out when folks called me Zardoz at the next faire I attended, but it is far better than some nicknames I've had in my lifetime!

I don't have a faire name... sad. Most of the friends I went with for so long weren't die hards. I went with a group of die hards this past year though... none of them called me anything unusual... fairy was floating around but thats because some of them didn't actually know my name and when they found out they opted to call me Leigh. I will have a name this year as I am in the German court... and I am certain I will be camping so I might gain another name as well.
Fae, if it's any consolation, 20 years in and I STILL don't have a faire name ;D ;D
A friend of mine at work/school dubbed me Duckie. So anyone involved with that group would talk about me as Duckie and it grew from there to another town. Then when hanging out with friends from faire there were just too many Sarahs so instead of taking a number or having them give me a name I gave them the one I already resopnded to. It spread more. And then I worked at a booth (the Black Dragon) and they had a no real names policy. I swear I answer to Duckie more often than Sarah.
I even get "I smell, I smell, I smell Duckie!" when I enter some local haunts.
Kinda funny when its in the middle of a karaoake song ;D

I had wondered about your tag. Thank you... sometimes nicknames have the strangest origins, while others are more mundane. My name is Andrew but my mother called me Drew (unless i had pissed her off) but most of my friends, in high school, called me Drewbie. The "why" of it still remains a mystery to me, 25 years later. ???
Oh, Duckie. I loves you so hard right now LOL....
And for the record? Blue tastes like cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies. At least, that's what the boys tell me.
Mine came from my armour which has several bear crest on it. I just used Richard but given the number of Richard around its not surprising that it soon became Richard the guy in the bear armour which soon just became Richard Bear. Then someone added sir because your wearing armour so you must be a knight. Given I'm relationed to Clan MacAuthur and MacAuthur is Son of Bear Heart it just seems to all fit togeather.

I have to say i love responses to that question. Yours is one of the best.
I sometimes have to refrain from asking during serious matters like interviews.
I've already lined out a name for my friend...Sir Stumpy McDickschitcken... although if everyone calls him that, he may not be my friend for long. :D
When I was planning to join the IWG, I decided that I needed a Faire name and asked a few friends (ren and non-ren) for suggestions and was gifted with Raevyn, to which I added Caitrina as a nod to my Celtic heritage. I think most people I've met from these forums call me RaevynCait(kate). Several of my fellow wenches call me Raevyn, others call me by my given name (Raenell), Rae, or Raerae. I answer to any and all of them. As long as you don't call me Nellie, I'm good with it.
As for other things that have been added along the way, PipeWench is the result of being a wench who loves the bagpipes and was gifted by a fellow Roguey. Rogueys are fans of The Rogues, as are Roguettes. BoobEnabler was bestowed by a friend after I pointed out some cleavage that was practically in his face but he somehow hadn't seen. Center of all Evil was bestowed in '08 by Mad Owen Fisher at Scarby. I'm also a member of Clan MacGiggle, and Dame of the (now unofficial and sort of mobile) Hostel at Scarborough.
I started out as the Welsh Wench but Athena started calling me Wenchie and it seems to have stuck.
Mine was bestowed on me by my first husband, who I first spied at Faire when I was 15. My name is either Nickie or Nicolette legally (via birth and baptismal certificates, respectively), but he always called me "Lady Nicolette," and it stuck for Faire. The romance ended, and he has sadly since passed away, but Lady Nicolette has stayed with me ever since.
And Wenchie you are, because it's just you! I didn't know our friend, Athena, started it, though. Love you both!
Mine started out as a user name on another board I belong to, the Pyracy Pub. I used the name "Mad Jack" when I started going to faire, and it stuck. Then when Wenchie and I started writing "El Lobo del Mar" together, we spun the idea into a full fledged character and gave him a last name. Hence, Mad Jack Wolfe.
Thanks, Wenchie! :-* ;D
Hey, that's not a faire name. That IS your name. Isn't it? ???
;)
Up until 03 I didn't really have a faire name. Finally bought by armor and got told I looked like some kind of death incarnate. That reminded my of Piers Anthony's book "On a Pale Horse" and the Grim Reaper which got shortened down to "Reaper".
Plus I was on SWAT for 7 years and was the 1st man who went through the door. People used to say I had a "death" wish. Guess it all fits in the scheme of things huh? ;)

Hot? Sure, i guess, for a tattoo'd troll. :D My bro is a good man, even though some people call refer to him as "The Violator" and some women feel the need to take a shower after he looks at them. LOL. He's my Shield Brother, a true friend and someone i can trust to watch my back.

LOL, OIKNOW!!!! I had a good laugh back in TN when you guys told me about that. I loves you guys so damn much...
When I first started going to faire in garb, around 13 years ago, I decided my name would be Lady Alathea (pronounced A-lay-thee-ah). However, I would introduce myself as that, but never would remember to answer to it. After a while of people looking at me like I was crazy, and Steve saying, "Ren, they're talking to you," I figured that wasn't going to work.
At that time, I mentioned that I loved seeing men in kilts at the faire and I thought Steve would look nice in one. Though he's English, our last name is a sept of either the Buchanan or Davidson clans. If you've ever seen the Buchanan tartan, you know that you can spot it a mile away - bright reds, yellows, greens, oranges. Steve decided that if he was going to wear a kilt, he'd make sure everybody saw him wearing the kilt, so he chose the Buchanan tartan. I found a bodice and skirt in the same tartan on Ebay many years ago, won it, and we decided that we would be Buchanans.
But then that thing about me forgetting to answer to another name. So we came up with Lady Renee and Lord Stephen Buchanan. And now, no matter what garb we wear, pirate, noble, Scottish, peasant, we still go by those names. Although I find a lot of people refer to me as "Lady Renee," but call my hubby "Steve."
And since Wenchie told me about Blue, I also started calling her blue zipcode and have no idea what it really means. ;D

So many fun faire name stories! :) Too bad I don't have a faire name story to share and my forum name is ... my name.
My Faire Name was bestowed on me by (then) Capn' Bonin (Bones) M'Crack on my 1st weekend at TRF.
He asked me these five - - - NO! 3! questions:
What is your favorite color? (Blue)
What is your Sun Sign? (Libra)
What is your favorite hobby? (Sculpting clay figures)
He puzzled on it a bit, thought of a clever tie-in between my hobby an' th' M'Cracks (never joined, that's another tale) an' came up with Molden.
It stuck! In fact, he was surprised (happily) that I'd kept it when we talked last season.
My name is Ron and I have a slight amount of hair loss.
I searched Yahoo and Google and found that no one else every used the name before. My real name is very common, there are 3 in the local phone book. So by being Ronald the Bald, I know any reference I see has to be me.
I do get some strange looks when introducing myself because with a hat and long hair I don't really look bald.
I got my faire name of Red at a ren fair sitting on a hammock with my twin and our best friend. We all decided that since we'd been coming to faire for many years all together that we all needed fair names... So we got drunk on mulled wine in a hammock and decided my name should be Red due to my hair and preference for that color, Rachel should be Rumy due to her love of rum and alcohol and so that our names together would be RedRum... and we named our friend Moby Dick because that's what he thinks with most often, and he is a very very unusual guy.
I don't really remember how it happened.
My first night with/camping with McLotofus when I was dating Spikey, everyone asked my name but it seemed that drunken Rennies have a low attention span and awful hearing (I would pick late at night to show up for my first introduction..toting a case of beer and lots of cleavage..I guess that was enough for y'all to like me because I'm still around!). My real name, "Julie", was hard to understand I guess lol...so I became a shortened, 'cuter' version.. "Juju". I was also dubbed "bebos" and "ta tas" by Gwennie and Bonny, I believe lol. But juju has landed as the main name.
And here I am. Everyone seems to call me that, now. Not just Rennies..it seems to be a common shortened name for "julie".
That's my story and i'm stickin' to it ;)
Heck, half the time I cant remember any of my wenches' names..I only know them by their 'top shelves!' because that's all I can remember after the Loki, Rum, and Mead ;)
I was reading a book which had two pirate brothers w/the last name of SaltWater and I liked that. Taffy because it's one of my favorite confections and just goes with saltwater so well.
I post under the name MacLager Jonnson--no significance behind the name other than I like to wear kilts, play the bagpipes, and consume good beer.
Our group, the_Kilt_Troupe, attends TRF one weekend every year. We change our faire names to coincide with the themed weekend. This year we'll be attending during "Pirate Adventure" weekend, hence my name will be Quartermaster Jacques Rogering, SSN Uranus.
Our clan runs about 8-10 strong and we comprise solely of men, so our names run somewhere between peculiar, and creatively profane.

My name is less...wonderous. It finally stuck in my bid to make it stick, so there is that. I'm called Mouse because of my mannerisms, when it comes to food (I horde and eat and peck and eat and horde)..and I never am full. Full of energy and quick to jump on anything that gets my attention....or fearful of. I'm small and have brown hair...so it started as Field Mouse, Zaimoku Nezumi...(wood mouse in japanese for my asian zodiac)..plus I own a fedora and I highly resmeble Mouse from the first Matrix Movie..plus my friends say I have the sexual prowes of a mouse...nonstop and spontaneous.

I don't really have a faire name either. My persona name was made up from my real name with my bio dad's last name added in order to give me a spanish name. My character is a Spanish Privateer. For the forum I chose to combine my character type with my love of the kilt and voila - I am now known around the camp grounds as Kilted Privateer or KP for short. Works for me. Especially since when put on the spot I have to stop and think about my persona name - add alcohol and I may not remember it all (o:
Eh, I've seem to have gained a followin' as The Cap'n. Mostly cause no one can tell my gender, and I much prefer it that way, really.
*stands on desk* Oh Captain my captain..welcome to the forum
I was wonderin' if anyone was goin' to be doin' that, and thanks :D
I don't have a faire name. But I did almost get to choose my forum name. I thought I was being a right smart-@$$ by picking Rapier Wit, and when my wife saw it she said...exactly; "More like Half-Wit."
Rapier Half-Wit witticisms...they may not always be sharp, but they are always pointy.
Well I kinda have 3 faire names.
Rosaline as I'm known on here is my SCA name. Though i don't really respond to it any more, as I am no longer involved in SCA.
Axis is the name that a lot of people at faire call me. I was dubbed that the year that some "friends" left me high and dry at faire without tent, bedding, or most importantly booze (but that's a whole other story) and I was taken in by Clan of Chaos, along with other kind hearted souls that took pity on the girl sitting alone on the trunk of her car. That night they saw my make shift cloak of deer skin and soon I was call "the girl in axis fur," which was then shortened to Axis. Some also say I think the world revolves around me, but that's just vicious lies ;)
And finally the third and what I and most commonly known as is "Bunny Fur" or "Bunnifer." I'm sure you can figure out where that came from if you can see my avatar. :D
Mine was actually given to me by my tattoo artist when I was 17 all of them have yellow roses in them. Well between not wanting to be the Yellow Rose of Texas and the internet Yrose came from it and I have this name for a very long time. It fits me in many ways. No reason to change it.
