Many of the regular MDRFers ::) are very familiar with our morning tailgate before faire....I am very happy to invite all of you to join us in our wonderful tradition Saturday and Sunday morning RenDezvous weekend. Scotsman and I will start setting up around 0800 both mornings. As time gets closer I will explain where to look for us....not that you could miss it!
Dallan has graciously offered to assist with tailgate for this wonderful occasion. Thank you! Now it's time to start a sign up list for what you want to bring to tailgate to share with everyone. We do not expect for those folks coming from out of state to bother with bringing something, us locals will take care of it. I cannot wait to see all of you and welcome you to our beautiful and amazing faire!
Scotsman & Lady Guinness: Mimosas, beer, coffee, sandwiches
I'll 'ave a mimosa er 8. ..... witout th' OJ.
*Champagne be good ren breakfast food*
......sounds like a breakfast of champions......we will toast to the beautiful weekend ahead of us. :D
is everyone getting excited yet?
2 months from now... from today... from right now... we'll be in the lot as cannon starts the day.
I'm counting down the days. I always look forward to the sojourn up there to Revel Grove but this season it's gonna be 'off the chain' (as the youngin's say)
You'll see me at the tailgate, on that you can bet your bottom dollar
Lady Guinness - you can definitely put us down to bring some extra champagne and probably some beer. As far as food goes I will better know when we get closer to the weekend in question :)
Count Aldolfo- I know...I am so excited too.....It will be the best of times. Safe journey to our shire.
Lady de la Warr- I will list you as bringing more champagne....the more the merrier.. (can never have too much of the fizzy stuff) ::)
Lady G -
Don't forget we are helping finacially with the Mimosa stuff. We'll bring two folding tables and Bagles.

This is the year that I am going to make Tailgate! If I have to drag my husband out the house kicking and screaming, we will be there!
It's a shame, I've been going to the MDRF for 4 years now, and have not once been to a tailgate . I am ashamed :(
Just look for the loudest group of people. ;D
LadySeasan, I hope we all get to meet you this year, are you coming opening day? If not ,what day? See ya soon. :D

Of course we will be there opening day! We never miss opening day (haven't missed an opening since I first started going)
And my husband did in fact say we will be going for Rendevous!!! I am sooo happy :)
I can't wait to finally meet everyone
"...just another mimosa mornin'..."
wow, hard to believe it, but we're within 2 months and I'm SO lookin' forward to seeing you all in that lot!
Come On, Hurry up. . . can't wait for ya all to get here! :D
Greetings from Canada!!
Master Ravyne and I will be at the tailgate. This will be our first Rendevous and our first time at your wonderful Faire. We look forward to seeing many friends again and making new ones!!!
Hmmmmmmm.....will probably come with some fabulous Ontario Riesling........and some Baileys......oooh and maybe some champagne too....
Very excited.
Scott & Nancy
Ummmm. . . Riesling! Double Ummm on the Baileys. ::)
um... are we there yet?
I know...Bailey's is wonderful...especially with a spash of coffee added ;)
Arianwyn have you ever put it in the freezer,OMG I just love a Baileys shake, and thats what its like a thick milkshake.See ya soon!
OOOhhhh that sounds delicious...I'm gonna dig in my fridge today...think I have a little bit of Bailey's hidden at the back I can freeze....
I'll likely bring the cookies, as usual. And maybe that blueberry coffeecake again. Or something new!

All, please forgive the tardiness, Lady Guinness will be along and update everything here. She is very distracted with several things going on at once. This thread is not forgotten, and will be updated soon.
That is all ... move along, nothing to see here.
So, uh, if I made like...banana pudding and brought little plates and spoons....would people eat it?
(I got hit with a sudden craving today but don't have anybody to share it with!)
Most definitely! ;D
Ummm. . . who doesn't like banana pudding.

banana pudding, yes! sign me up ;)
pudding yummmmm!
I'd make Athol Brose for the event but I'd need a stove...
Would a propane camp stove work for you?
I've got a gas grill that attaches to my hitch but I don't know how Management would feel about it.
Count me in on the banana pudding! Wonder how that will go with mimosas? No harm in trying.
I was told no fires or cooking in the parking area
Wow! MD allows tailgating? My home faire is PARF and tailgate is strictly verbotten. Not that this rule stopped us on numerous occassions! However, I may bring my famous pulled pork which would have slowly simmered in the crock pot all night until things just fell apart! Would there be a kind wench or rogue who would help me lace up into garb? I hate driving all that way with my ribs ready to crack in tight lacing.
Pulled pork and unlaced wench...?
=unbalanced rogue.... :D
A show of hands, lads?
Hmmm while I prefer unlacing to lacing :o either my wife, Lady Di, or I would be happy to help. Simply introduce yourself.
many thanks!! The pin and the tickets are ordered. I can't wait!
hmmm... what's that smell?
is it orange juice?
or champagne?
less than a month to go...

Here is a valuable exercise- It's called "The Gas Truck Test":
Whenever confronted by a decision about how essential it is that you be at work, ask yourself the following: "If I were to slide under a gas truck and taste my own blood and vomit, would I need to make it to work?" In most cases you will find that "work" would somehow continue in your absence.
Cinnamon pick apart bread.
(have blood, vomit and pick-apart bread ever been used together in one post on this forum? Do I win a medal or something?)
Wow! Can't wait. My home faire of Pennsylvania starts tomorrow and I'm wound tighter than a cheap watch right now!
Blood and Vomit? Feline I think you better come on and go to Faire! Steev has a point, you should listen to him! ::)
I completely understand the gas truck and other points being made -- they're arguments the voices in my head have been having for the past two weeks! On the other hand, my fencers lose their summer floorspace at the end of August and the digs in question are to be their new floorspace. My lease doesn't take effect until the first of the September. I can't have my fencers use the space until I've laid a couple thousand square feet of rubber flooring, let alone set up the strips and squared away at least the roughest basics. I can't offer classes (which will -- hopefully! -- pay for said flooring and floorspace) until the flooring is in and those roughest basics are smoothed out and refined a bit. And I'm a one-horse rodeo so if I'm not doing it, it's not being done.
I think right now I'm hoping that the as-yet-undecided-upon 'they' won't be able to deliver the flooring until the day after Labor Day weekend. If that's the case, I can go to MD and play with a clear conscience! :)
Wow. All those concerns- sounds like you need a vacation. How about.... faire?
You gotta do what you gotta do. You still have lots of weekends to choose from- chin up!
S
I like the way you think. :D At this point, I'm hoping for 'the flooring won't be delivered before that weekend' route. And if people on the other end of the phone lines and keyboards keep piddling around, that just might come true, yay!

Because of cast obligations we have a tight time window for the group photo.

ALSO:The M'Crack's are organizing a lunch each day at the same location as the tailgate in the parking lot. All are welcome to attend. The lunch will occur after the group photo (1:45ish). Please feel free to join us!
Here is what we have so far.
Ratz'n- Plates and napkins.
Flattin and Alone'n- meat and cheese assortment
Blow'n-plastic ware and cups and a bunch of pies
Sun'n- mustard and mayo, trash bags
Nail'n- donation
Cherry'n-rolls and potato chips
I'd like to put in a request if at all possible especially on the meats but also anything else. Could you check to see if there is MSG (monosodium glutemate) in the meat or any sauce you put on it? Poke'n has MAJOR reactions to it and needs to avoid it. Doesn't mean not get something if it has it, just please let us know if you know its in there so she can avoid it. I'll check with her and see what she wants to bring and let you guys know.
So far what I'm planning on:
Banana pudding
Some sort of drink concoction and/or juice
Cookies (suggestions? I'm thinking chocolate chip/walnut. Or oatmeal/chocolate chip/walnut. Or spice cookies with icing. Or this recipe for Triple chocolate espresso bean cookies (http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/001408.html) that I've been meaning to try).

Ok..because I am a newbie.....I gotta know.....
What are Buttery Nipples please?[/color]
*throwing a protective arm around Arianwyn* - Step away from the buttery nipples, the loki and other unexplained brews....... Think of tailgait as the first spring time dip in the ocean.... test it out with your toesies first - you don't know what to expect....
Nah.... we are alll friends here - but some of these things, if you are unsuspecting, will jump up and bite you on the (ahem) bumroll. But, being that we are all friends, I am sure if you ask first, if it is lethal, whomever is offering it will warn you. (personally, I have always been amazed that loki doesn't melt the plastic it is served in - it seems to be to be incredibly flavored, but intensely debiliating).

Strictly speaking, a buttery nipple is a cocktail made of the following:
Ingredients
1/2 ounce Irish cream liqueur
1/2 ounce Butterscotch Schnapps
1/2 ounce vodka
When talking Faire and Loki tho, one is never quite sure. Should have a butterscotchy taste I suspect.
Now see, that didn't her Arianwyn at all, did it Mehan? :)
*Peeking out from behind Mehan's skirts* Maybe I'll try just a drop.......I do love butterscotch ::)
I am getting the impression that, having only experienced the tailgate at Great Lakes, I am in for an adventure come this Labour Day Weekend.

I'm pretty sure this is going to be the tailgate to end all tailgates. It definitely sounds like it's shaping up to be far huger than the "typical" MDRF tailgates I've been to. :)

Limoncello IS made from grain alcohol SO I'd say that is to be sipped, but the BUTTERY NIPPLES I make are just butter shots and baileys so they won't hurt you unless you go HOG WILD!Its a long weekend so . . . . . .

(Assuming we can get there that early *yawn*)
What Tixi said: "So... How do we find you guys?". Will the parking attendants point us in the right direction if we ask them which way to the tailgate party? Will you have any flags, banners, or inflatable English Taverns http://www.inflatablepub.com/ (http://www.inflatablepub.com/) ?
Also, I plan to bring the Renaissance Bubble Machine. I know it is not permitted inside the Faire... is it ok to bring to the tailgate so all the RF Rendevous attendees can see it? ......... Felix the Bubble Wright

ESPECIALLY this year
Follow the racket....
Usually, the instigators get there early enough to get a good spot in front of the gate. It's just a short stumble to the ticket booth from there.

this time next week I'll be trying to sleep so I can make it to TAILGATE
I will be at the Sunday Tailgate and will bring 2 cases of Reading Draft Premium Reserve Sodas, which are made with pure cane sugar. The Variety Case contains: Black Cherry, Sarsaparilla, White Birch, Blueberry Birch, Vanilla Cream, Creamy Red Birch, Strawberry Cream, Orange Cream, Root Beer (2), and Birch Beer (2). These are all most wondrous sodas, however, one of which is to die for... but I won't tell for fear of fisticuffs breaking out over it. See you all next week....... Felix ;D ;D ;D

Local folks who want to help with set up for tailgate. We will be assembling at the American Legion parking lot at 0815. We will then caravan to faire together at roughly 0830. This will ensure we have a central & large area to stage tailgate. All those who would like please let me know.
To be fair, anyone coming from out of town who would like to assist ... you are welcome as well.
Lady Guinness, Amras and I usually coordinate this but considering this will be a much larger group we will probably need a larger area.
PLAN OF ACTION:
Upon entering the lot together we will butt up to the road roughly 3-4 feet shy. As traffic fills into the lane behind us we will then pull the vehicles forward the additional 3 - 4 feet allowing for a huge area for tailgate yet not interfering with the parking lot make-up. Should work well. The more participants we have the better it will work
Typically the lot crew does not come on duty until 0845-0900.
There will be a lunch gate as well (same place as AM tailgate)... we plan to do this after the photo in the afternoon. All those who would like to contribute/participate are welcome. We plan to have finger food, snacks, sandwiches, meat, cheese and whatever else.
** Ladies ... there will be men in kilts out there
Count me in, I'll be there to help.
Ohhhhhh. . . Men in Kilts! :o ::) :o ::)
Huzzah to men in kilts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scott and I would like to contribute......we were planning on picking up something as we travel from Williamsport, PA to Maryland on Friday....not sure what it will be but we will have something. We are plannig on being at the parking lot for 8:30 so direct us to where we would be best able to help Scotsman......
I wil also have Baileys, Tullemore Dew and Ontario Reisling (2 bottles)
We are so looking forward to seeing all of you.....and please know how much your hard work in organizing this is appreaciated and acknowledged! I truly hope that one day there will be a faire up here in Ontario so we can return your gracious hospitality.

I forgot to get my pan from you! (this seems to happen a lot)
Luckily, I don't need it for any of the stuff I plan on making for this weekend's tailgating so....no big deal! :)
Scotsman we'll be at the AL 8:15 on Saturday. On Sunday Tim T will have his car as well.

The Legion Hall! Several of us will be there early to "prep" the hall ... "test" the water ... so to speak. We gotta make sure it is safe for everyone else to "swim" in!
Count, I can vouch for the Vino Volo restraunt in the SW terminal at BWI...Clan Elfwine has drink/drank/drunk the place under on many pre/post flight occasions...
Kilt Boy,
I will be there Friday night, but later, as I will be saving the world from itself again into the evening. Save some Stout for me, if possible...if not, I will, as usual, understand, and settle for my usual Schlitz... 8)
Love,
Tail Flicker Boy
Excellent, Amrys...
Seamus, Falcone and I shall have to see if we can check it out... mayhaps...
and may I say, it'll be a pleasure to see you again!

I'm sure everyone who was there would agree, but I just wanted to say to the tailgate organizers and contributors, who put their time and effort and resources into the daily tailgates (and whom I would try to name, but I don't want to leave anyone out!): you did a spectacular job!
You went above and beyond to welcome everyone, and managed to setup a series of decidedly marvelous spreads.
Cheers to MDRF's true tailgate professionals for making Rendezvous 2009 even more special =)

Not only was it nice to meet you but when we were packing up the tailgate on Sunday I threw some of the left over sodas in a couple of the coolers at the taigate. We were luck enough to take home a few. I'm not a big soda person but those are awesome. The orange cream is fantastic.
I'd like to thank, on behalf of Falcone and myself, all of you who were responsible for the tailgate. It was amazing... a veritable sea of people, as Scotsman said...

We love you and we're already lookin' forward to seeing you all next year if our paths don't cross before then!
That is an incredible photo...the glow is like the aura of the Spirit of Ren floating over us...thanks for sharing it, my friend!
Post-RenDezVous operations shall continue at the same location tomorrow...in the rain, I think...:-) Cheers!!
P.S.
I miss you all...
thanks, my good friend
and it should be noted and recorded
that this is the very first time that any picture I took was remarked about as being "incredible"
I am... flabbergasted
The amazing thing is, that wasn't even the entire crowd... I was standing with some folks behind me when I held up the camera and snapped!
