This link takes you to the Sterling Weekend Weather Forecast for Outdoor Recreation ;D
Next weekend looks great :)
I watched that forecast like a hawk last week, trying to decide which day to go. We didn't end up being unhappy with Saturday, but I think the weather Sunday might actually have been a little nicer. Sadly, the forecast changed back and forth throughout the week, including AFTER I'd already settled on Saturday. Stupid NY weather. ;D
Heehee...I suppose they should just call it "most likely weather possibilities" instead of a "weather forecast" ;)
It's looking like Saturday will be pretty nice, and even if it does rain a bit we've got the Bad Dog Pub and the new covered beer garden...good ale, good company & a bit of shelter and we won't mind the rain one bit! ;D
rain or shine, we will be there! LF
Hey, well, just think. The colder the weather the more need for those extra layers you've been dieing to wear that have been shoved away in the back of your closet. If the cold keeps up I might just have to buy that nomad coat I've been eyeing from Moresca. *is practically in love with it*

Maybe it will actually be cool enough for me to wear the hanging sleeves with my gown for once...it's been too warm for them every time I've worn it...

Sunday was a LOT nicer.
If every day is like last sunday that'd be amazing. Just warm enough but just cool enough in the shade. Hopefully you come on a nice day, Tygrkat. By the way, did you attend last weekend?

Yeah, I figured. But through most of the week, weather.com actually had Saturday as the sunnier of the two days. It doesn't matter - it isn't as if the weather affected us in even the slightest way (other than my kids complaining a bit about being cold right after the gates opened), but it's frustrating around these parts trying to pinpoint a day when the weather's going to be nice.

Especially since going a mile or two in any direction can change the weather completely! Heck , we've had days when it rained in the parking lot but not on the main grounds.
Suprised it didn't rain at all opening weekend. It's starting to seem like this year the high is going to be 80F. Heads up for anyone comming to Sterling, bring extra garments so you're prepared. Starting to wonder if I should switch out my wood mug for a ceramic one for hot liquids this year.

No, we spent the 4th of July weekend with my Husband's family (and had a great time, I might add :) ) Even still, my mind did wanted off to Warwickshire more than once or twice. We'll be there Saturday -
FINALLY!

See you then. Hope you're not too lost with all the changes this year. Hopefully it's not nearly as cold as last saturday, but then again more layers is always nice. See you in the Shire.

I'm looking forward to it! HUZZAH! ;D
After watching the weather report changed from day to day, (Sometimes hour to hour) and even having two different weather sites give two different weather reports I have my own prediction. This weekend there will be Sunny smiles followed by a warm front of friendships moving into the area. Occasional gusts of bravado will be experienced in the area of the games. Strong possibilities of thunderous sounds rumbling across the glen from the taverns (Reports indicate it may be singing, but many experts are of the opinion it is the Sheriff torturing some poor soul.) In the early evening there is a 75% chance of localized precipitation about individuals as people depart. Now, lets see if I'm a better weatherman than the professionals.
I don't think one could ask for better weather at Faire than that, Xantrawler! ;D
Oh there will be singing from Falstaff pub for sure! I like the way you think Xantrawler.
Whatever we end up with i am sure all will make the most of it as usual.
just checked the weather forecast...lookin' good! :)
Just looked at the weather, I see we may have a thunderstorm during the renew of vows. I'm looking at it as the Heavens way of cheering for us and our devotion to our loved ones.
I don't worry about weather till it happens, and it can change fast
along the lake there. Oh well a little liquid sunshine never hurts.
But the hail we had last year did.
An anecdote I think came from Virginia at Wolfstone Kilt Co.:
Rain doesn't stop NYers from coming out for the day, but 90° heat makes everyone stay home. It's the opposite at Southern Faires, where people will take the heat all day long but they won't go out in the rain.
we were there in the rain. was ok till about 1:30 then it just poured. we gave up about 3:30 and went home at which piont it started to clear, but we just wanted to go home and dry out by then. there really wasnt much of anything going on in the rain. the show kinda stopped.
Oh heck......I can remember one day, I was wearing a velvet gown and it poured! I couldn't move at all!!!! LOL! I had to keep wringing it out, in order to get to my car! What a sight!!! BUT...what fun!!! I never laughed so hard and the kids were just falling over!! :D
Rain and hail at Sterling is always fun!!
;D
The rain and hail from last year was spectacular. If only I had had an inner tube or a raft I could have white water rafted down the hill.
We spent the rain huddling under the eaves and watching the boat races. Some of the kids made boats out of the styrofoam plates. Leave it to children to remind us to make the best of a bad situation.
anyone know were to get some waterproof cloaks. it seems to rain on my wife and i alot.
For Sterling (or any other warm-weather Faire), your best bet would be to find a lightweight wool cloak you like, and apply a water repellent-type treatment (scotch-gard or something similar)
:)
I will agree that some shows stop during a heavy rain but the spontaneous shows are sometimes even better! It all depends on where you get stuck! This Sat I got stuck at the main stage where loud racus singing broke out between the stage & the pub below. Then I wandered over to the beer garden where more loud singing & dancing were going on. I also saw the kids jumping in puddles & having boat races in the rivers flowing in the lanes. There were also people wading in the new formed "lake Sterling" (joust field). So, after chasing flying umbrellas, dodging raindrops & wandering from roof to roof & getting soaked to the skin I had a GREAT time & I hope I got the pictures to prove it! I will try to get some pix ASAP!
As for cloaks, I agree with Tygrkat light wool is good & can be found at Inch by inch in the lower shire. Moreska, just inside the gates has water resistant cloaks too. All the clothing shops have cloaks of one form or another. For the mundane most shops & booths have the plastic ponchos available too. Wet, dry or simply damp... have fun & ENJOY!!!

Archery continued.
The weather yesterday was absolutely gorgeous for faire. Sunny and with a slight cool breeze. Just pefect. They had a good crowd, but it was not what i would call overly crowded . The only places were you could see signs of the heavy rain the day before were the parking lots and the joust feild. All in all, it was a lovely day for a faire.
I got to meet Photomike and one of the Bunny People and captain Jack Rabbit. I wish i had remembered to take a picture. Next time for sure !
I saw Sir Waterbury and had a pleasant chat with him.
I also had the lovely pleasure of meeting Ladyfaire and her husband Al who were visting our faire for the weekend.
I thought I saw Darklord walk by me once. atleast there was someone who looked just like him. I thought he was not coming till next weekend .
MMario, my 5 year old son and husband enjoyed the archery booth, i have to say somewhat to mommy's dismay, for they are going out tonight to buy themselves both a bow and and some arrows. I have already told my son he can only use it when daddy is around to help him outside, for i have images in my mind of him poking a eye out.
Look forward to seeing everyone again next weekend, along with a few more faces i have yet to see this year.
Well it looks like next Sunday is supposed to be a high of 75, partly cloudy. Sounds pretty nice! I'm super excited to come back!
I couldn't find anyone new on Sunday! No Lady Amy, or LaedyFaire. I missed Lady Rebecca last time, and Irish too. I'm sure I would have noticed DarkLord.
I introduced myself to the shyest Scot in the Shire, though. He'd just purchased an elk staff similar to one I have. Maybe I weirded him out or something. I hope he's not lurking...
Anyway, I'll be there this Sunday with the Caribou staff. Hope to see y'all there!
Hi Scot!
Dark Lord will be there this coming weekend..18 to 19........if it doesn't rain...so he stated...lmao!!!!
I will look for you also!!!!

Hi all! I FINALLY found the Sterling boards (new here but not to faire).
We were there on Sunday and the weather was fantastic. Sunny and relatively cool and little humidity. If we get a few more days like that it will be a great season. The crowd was however, far too small. If we have too many more weekends like this we're going to have a real problem keeping the faire. I know quite a few of the merchants, and some of them aren't even able to make payroll because the crowds have been so small.
I didn't really run into anyone I recognized form the boards other than PhotoMike even though I didn't realize at the time it was him (we'd been photoed about 12 times already), who was kind enough to take our picture (I can't wait to see it once its posted). However, as mentioned, I am new to the boards, so I a haven't really learned who all is who yet. ;)
I do hope to see more people as the season goes along. We will be there one day of each weekend through the end of the faire (day depends on predicted weather). If you see us, feel free to stop and say hello. :)
Here is a fuzzy one we got taken though (problem with having someone else use your camera):

What a nice picture !
Did you stay for Pubsing ? If so, i think i may have been standing right next to you once and did not even know it . ;D I was busy looking for someone i was to meet up with.
Welcome to the boards !
Aye. We try to never miss pubsing. We were right down near the stage on the left (facing the stage).
As it stands it looks like Sunday will be the day of choice this weekend. Saturday is calling for Showers & T-Storms all day, again... >:(
It seems like a lot of people are coming on Sunday. Should we plan a get-together for a certain time?
Ah no. I have not made it up to Sterling yet. I am still planning to come this weekend. However if it appears particularly rainy on Saturday I may have to push-off the Black Armour to Sunday! I will look to see if anyone is in the Black Dog in the noon to 1:00 time frame on Saturday (definitely) and will try to peek in on Sunday (same time) just in case everyone slips a day in their planning.
Vlad
Mmmmmmmmmm what's under that black armour?? ::)
I will be there Saturday & Sunday! Will look for you all, about noon.....
irish ;D
We'll be bringing a Canadian friend of ours this weekend as well, so I can't make any promises on being a specific spot at a specific time... you know how it is. However, I'll try to wander us that direction. If not and you see us, feel free to say Hi. I'll be easy to spot as the cavaliere with a lady on each arm. ;D
