Has anyone been on the ghost walk? I've been going thru my little book (the books that have the map in it that you buy for a couple dollars) from last season. There is an ad for the ghost walk that takes place after the fireworks. About how long is the walk? Do you know if there is an age limit?
???
I have been on it and highly recommend it for several reasons. There is no age limit, but I would be careful if trying to traverse a stroller or wagon through there at night as it gets quite dark.
It is the ONLY way you can get a drink after hours at TRF as your first stop is the pub. LOL
Then you walk and learn some lore, and history along the way. The info about the chapel is very interesting.
If you get the chance please do go at least once.
um... what history about the chapel do they delve into? :-[
Thank you for asking, I was about to! :o
They stop at the pub now?! Awesome!
What's the history about the chapel? Captin' a stop at the pub might be a good thing, I guess I shouldn't tell anyone I'm a BIG wimp but love a good ghost story. ;)
I took this tour when I visited for our first Rendevous. I don't remember the stories, but I recall it was a hoot. I'd like to take it again sometime.

What's the history about the chapel?
Dunno what they tell the folks on the ghost walk, but the things I have done/seen/heard/etc. in or around that chapel would cause most clergy to burst into flames ;)

Well, that probably goes for all of New Market Village, the parking lots and campgrounds also. ;D
I might burst with curiosity now! I have to go on the ghost walk now! ;D
I've always wanted to do it. But now I REALLY want to go on that tour. Hhmmmm... Wonder if I can fit it in this year ???
This sounds really cool. Where do you go to sign up and how much does it cost?
When is it? How much? etc
The TRF After Hours Ghost Walk and Festival History Tour is held every night after the fireworks show. It lasts for 60 to 90 minutes and begins just inside the front gates. The cost the past couple years has been $10 per person (don't know if there will be an increase this year or not). Tickets are available at the Information Booth next to the front gate and also at the King's Feast gift shoppe (next to the Prince Of Wales Pub). A Ghost Walk guide will be near the front gate after the fireworks show and he is usually hawking the show and sometimes draws attention to himself by waving a green laser light.
*figured i might as well ask now instead of last minute*
what if one wants to join the drum circle out side of the gates, will they allow you to come back in for the ghost walk?
*edit* answer my own question, you are not allowed to follow tartanic then come back in for ghost walk, just FYI :)
I had emailed TRF staff and found out that the Ghost Walk is no longer happening. I got no reason why, sorry. >:(
Wow, I wonder why. It was a pretty cool event??
The walker was being overwhelmed for one. George started cutting into his profits for two. If there are other reasons, I'm not privy to them. Those are the only two that were made known to me.
That stinks.
It is a shame if we are going to lose the Ghost Walk tour, but I would think that King George got a percentage of the profits from the very start. ???
No - at first the originator drew 100%. How he managed that? I have no idea. I think he actually made it halfway through the season before George started dipping his wallet into that well.
I may be off on how long he kept his profits before George tapped him.

I know for a fact that that statement is true...we went last year and so did a couple hundred other people...on the same night...at the same time... :P There were WAY too many people if you really wanted to know what was going on and what they guy was saying. It was a struggle to keep up at the front where we could hear him. I would say the majority of the people there couldn't hear what he was saying...maybe didn't care either, just wanted to be able to walk around the grounds after dark... ;)
The year I went on the ghost walk 2007, I think, it was quiet a large crowd also. Granted it was All Hallows Eve weekend. There had to be 75 to 100 people maybe more. I couldn't hear half of what was said even though I managed to stay close to the front.
I went once... experienced nothing. But since I have been out at rehearsals I have experienced some things... had a pretty cool rush of feelings come over me at that chapel. It has some serious energy in it.
Being that the walk will not gonna happen ... this season anyways. Did you learn anything about TRF, were there any stories that scared you from the walk? I would love to hear a scary story or two about TRF. I'm not to familiar with the history of TRF or its back ground and anything new would be fun. :D
I don't really remember the stories from the ghost walk. But there is apparently some guy that sits on the bridge at sherwood and someone is in the chapel and there have been many people that have died and had their ashes spread there because they love it so much... I cannot remember names but these are stories fellow cast have told me. None of the things I have heard are scary... these ghosts are her to be where they loved being and I am told they help out the people that work out there.
*wonders ifn they'd scatter me ashes where th' crowd gathers fer th' chain maille show....* ;)
Just to let you guys know, the Ghost Walk will be happening at TRF. Same bat time, Same bat channel.
Thats good news - I was really bummed when I heard it wasn't going to happen this year. Hopefully this year I'll actually get to take the tour
can you walk it if you work there?
I'm not sure. :(
If anyone goes on the Ghost Walk can you let me know how it went and the cost?
Won't be going to TRF til Highland Wknd and would like to plan it into our budget.
Lady M, there is no Ghost walk this season at TRF. :( Sorry.
Um, Chianti posted that it was happening, perhaps there has been a changing of minds?
"The Minds" might have changed. I guess I could email and ask again.
I got an email from someone at TRF and the Ghost Walk is back on! ;D Thank you everyone for keeping me updated, I would be lost with out you all. :D
so that brings back the question of how do you get signed up and when/where?
I am told to meet at the Information Booth and there is a $10 charge for the walk.
Yes, last year you met up at the front gate in front of the information booth. There was a little sign post out there. I don't know if the tickets will be sold from the Info booth this year or not, but they did last year.
thanks for the details! I now have the job of talking my group into participating ;D
GREAT! My family and I will be taking the walk this year.
Ok, so we're heading into our third weekend. Has anyone taken the tour this year. Thoughts, likes, dislikes, is it worth it?

I went on the Ghost Walk last weekend. It is $10 and although it wasn't spectacular, I'd say it was mildly entertaining. You pay near the front gate and then congregate in the feast hall. The guide talks about the history of TRF and has a question and answer session (while allowing the group to purchase their last drinks of the day and use the privy if needed). Then the walking tour is on. I won't retell the stories here because that is how they make their money, but basically you tour the TRF grounds and are treated to tales of paranormal activities that have happened to past (and present) TRF performers/vendors/performance company members. I did find it intriguing that at least two of the people mentioned on the tour (that have had spooky experiences) are members of our forum. The tour guide advised us that the stops on the tour vary from time to time. It was cool to see the grounds after the fireworks show, but the scariest thing that happened was that some members of our group got soaked when the sprinklers came on. :o
I would not recommend the ghost walk for children, the elderly or anyone with a physical handicap. They probably wouldn't be frightened by anything (except maybe the water sprinklers), but the guide walks so briskly between stops on the tour that only the able bodied can keep up with his pace.
Thank you Sir Martin for the info! :)
LOL - Damn the sprinklers
Yes, thanks for the info Martin. Perhaps we'll do it this weekend or maybe wait until closing weekend.
Seriously, I'm in awe at just how much I've missed going year after year to TRF! A ghost walk?? Never knew! How do I miss all the little intricacies of fair!? I'm obviously too giddy running around making bell noises with my flower wreath to notice important fun stuff. /sigh
I have never done the maze, the ghost walk sounds cute and definitely something I'd have done if I'd noticed it, I never toured the gardens, never been on time to see the glass-blowing demos, or any of this. Makes me wonder what else I've never heard of that happens every year under my nose. ???
Well, this year, there'll BE a ghost walk and there'll BE a fun gypsy psychic reading and there'll BE some hair braiding (however challenging my psycho hair may be)! At least, there'll be these things when I find my way out of that maze I've never gone through. If... I find my way.

I think this is exactly the reason we love to go so many times during the season. It is impossible to do and see everything in one day or weekend! We might be up for joining you on the ghost walk depending on when you decided to go, so please let me know.
That sounds fabulous! Krista and I may do that Sunday evening (10/10/10) :P Must be a spooky special thing that happens on such an interesting date, right? :)
Hi all, I recently moved from texas to Virginia, I miss TRF I am going to start trying some faires nearby. I want to know if anyone knows if any faires in this area(Pa, Va, Md, NC etc) have something like the ghost walk.
I think Maryland may have done one a few years back, but I don't believe so now, but don't quote me on that.
Though I don't think a lot do since there's a lack of camping at those faires as well as being much smaller.
