Since I hi-jacked another thread (and got chewed on about it)...I'll ask here.
For the benefit of those who haven't been to one of these gatherings can a little background be given? A little detail other then calling it a 'Uber-gathering' would help those interested in attending or helping out.
Are these before during or after faire hours? Campgrounds, faire grounds or hotels? Or is all this TBD? Throw a dog a bone and I promise to not mention spankings! (oops...too late)

Well, if you want a little more info than what I'm about to give you, you can peruse some of our past RenDezvous gatherings.
Basically, the idea is that we ALL invade one faire every year. Normally there is a Friday night welcoming party, then everyone is at faire for Saturday and Sunday. There are different things that go on, such as meet-ups for toasts, and pictures, and certain events. There are pre-faire tailgates (in the lot), post-cannon tailgates (while we wait for traffic to die down), and evening soirees that almost always include a pool somewhere LOL. People stay wherever they wish, be it hotel or campground (or a local person's home), and we all just get together in a BIG group and go to faire. Just that simple hunny!

I got a pool!!!...Although around Scarby-time it's gonna be kinda nippy out the weekend it looks like it'll be held. :-\

Merlin, Here at Md. we are putting a list together on everyone whos coming here for Rendezvous that needs to buy tickets and the faire is giving us a great rate at $12.50 a ticket and they can also be used any day at faire if you don't make it that day. Hope Scarby can do something like that.

It's hard to say but if we can make it I can't imagine them letting us go without them. A lot of it will depend on the weekend and I may not know until the last minute. Both boys play lacrosse in the spring and I coach Devon (the older of the two). We have a very competitive team but this spring when we missed a game to go to GARF his presence was missed. He's our best defenseman and runs our defense. My buddy who is my assistant coach doesn't mind covering for me if I need to miss a game but doesn't like not having Devon. So it will depend on lacrosse, school and the VARF schedule among other things. Just too complicated to do more than venture a hope of yes this far out.
I will more than likely be handling ticket stuff for this. I'll post when I get more information. I'm sure we can get SOME sort of deal on tix...
Not to be a wet blanket, but you might want to check with faire management before anyone starts promising that folks will be marching in the parade. They may just say yes, but they may also say no. It's important to remember that the average faire-goer assumes that ANYONE in the parade is an employee of the faire, so if they see someone who was in the parade drinking a beer or wearing sunglasses, that means that they assume all employees do so.
Whether management says yea or nay, though, there will be PLENTY of fun things to do! :)

I've been a Friends of the Faire member for a while at Scarby and I get the idea that our (not really our but it feels like ours) faire is a bit more relaxed on things like this. They certainly wouldn't condone inappropriate attire while in the parade but it feels like they are really concerned with people just having fun. I've known non workers to march...I've marched... there just seems to be an air of peace and happiness at Scarby.
I'm also not making promises to anything but I just can't imagine Scarby management saying "No...the RF Rendezvous is not allowed to march on your rendezvous day that you organized and brought paying members throughout the land to our faire."
I've been grabbed from the rows and asked to participate in several activities (well...3 that I can think of off hand)
Blue....let me know if I can assist you in assisting in anything with tickets for our far away travelers. I'll be Friends of the Faire again but since I'm closer than you...I don't mind running a few errands fer ye!
I hope this goes off well and MANY newcomers travel to see Scarby for the first time.

That's pretty much how Scarby is.... it's all about having a good time.
I would love to come, but we will see what the world has in store for me next year. I leave the country in early July, so lord knows how busy I will be come then, plus I have school till the first weekend in May. But I will leave my fingers crossed and my hopes high!!

Scarby is actually the "Home Faire" of the Clan M'Crack and we have a number of members on Cast or in booths or pubs including Queen Mags aka Hors'n M'Crack and should have a good number of the Texas M'Cracks that will show up for the Rendevous.
The None Texas Chapters of the Clan M'Crack will also be well represented, so far it looks like we will have

I have an automatic fare watch alert set up on Kayak.com for airfares from the Illinois/Iowa region to Dallas for RenDezvous. I figure it I start now, maybe some good deals will come up. That will be the determining factor if we can make it to Scarby.
Steve and I really want to go. The timing is right for us to close the restaurant for the weekend, after the ski season, but before the tourist season. I hope we can find some great fares!

I had an email from Kayak.com about an airfare alert from Chicago to Dallas over Rendezvous. Last week, it was over $300 a ticket. So not going to happen for us.
Today, Delta dropped the price down to $120.40. That's - roundtrip - and including all taxes and fees.
So I called Steve and he said, "take care of it, Ren." So I did.
We're flying to Dallas on Wednesday, April 21st and flying home on Monday, April 26th.

Since Kayak doesn't know if you've already bought your ticket, they keep sending fare alerts. I got one yesterday that the airfare had gone up $70 a person. So we really got a good deal!
If anyone is planning to fly to Dallas for the RenDezvous, I suggest signing up for a fare alert on Kayak. They are the best! And they show every airline, not excluding some of the smaller carriers like Jet Blue and Frontier.

There is a thread called Lodging for RenDezvous 2010 with suggestions there. Steve and I already have reservations from Friday to Monday at the Super 8 Motel, because that's where Blue Zipcode said the headquarters would be, and she is the co-organizer.
I will totally be there! It is my home faire after all! I'll also be bringing my boyfriend Greg...It will be his first time at Scarby! We are both super excited!

Hehe...I've been staying at the Holiday Inn Express since they opened. I like having a decent hot breakfast on site, and I like the rooms. They're also very friendly there...in fact I think one of the desk clerks recognised me this year from the previous year :)

I know I am probably being anal about this, since it's almost 3 months away still, but what is the typical Texas weather the third weekend in April?
Now I realize somebody might say, "wow, last year we had the biggest snowfall/heat spell/thunderstorms the area has ever known," but how is the temperature usually at that time of year?
We are coming by plane, and are planning to only do carry ons, because the baggage fees get expensive, so we really need to par down to just bring the essentials (meaning more room for garb, not every day clothes).

Ok. I can speak for Texas weather... or, well, Houston weather anyways. Late April is usually on the warm side, but never stiflingly hot. It's a tad humid at times, and sometimes rainy. It never rains for more than about 20 minutes, and there's a good amount of breeze. Overall, I would say that the mornings are cool, the afternoons are warm, so if you dress in layers, remember to wear something that can easily be shed in the afternoon hours.
Luckily, at Scarby, there are plenty of places to duck out of the weather if need be, and lots of shady trees. April weather is never a problem.
April in the Dallas area 50's at night and 70's day. Not to much rain though when it does it's normally either an all day sprinkle or a hour long down pour.
Lots of trees and shops at Scarby. Not a whole lot of open area outside of the joust area and a couple small patches.

Its really going to depend as the days get closer. We've had an extremely off winter, with snow in North Texas and the metroplex area. The weather could do anything, we just have to wait and see. We could get lucky and it'll be clear and cool or sunny but not stifling.
It's always great weather at the faire !
Parking on the other hand...
Get there early and parking is a breeze. Now....getting out is another story. I recommend leaving about 20 minutes early or plan on partying in the parking lot for about 40 minutes after.... either way... stop at the privies first!

Scarborough has flushies. There are some port-o-privs too, if there's someone who just doesn't think it's faire unless they use 'em, but there's a building in each of the three sections of the festival grounds that has very nice flushies.

Actually, I just found out this week that business will take my wife and I to Texas in mid-April, and we're able to extend our stay to get to RenDezvous. Now to set up tickets and lodging and all that rot ...

Well...Blue had the "official" one started but I'm kind of slow... so I did the other one.
Mainly just wanting to get some sort of an idea of how many people to prepare for since we are bringing snacks and what-not to the pre-canon meet and greet.

Well... so far it's something like this:
Me and Eloquent will get to the parking lot around 8am and set up a couple of tables.
I will uncork some champagne and get ready to pour mimosas. Those who volunteered to bring snacks, or nomnoms as Blue calls them, will bring them to the tables (Look for the blue Toyota 4-Runner with the Scottish flag) and we will eat them.
Socialize until around 9:55 and make our way to the gates for opening canon.

Angus- we'll have a portion of FoF parking blocked off for for both my rig, Z's van, Merlins, and yours if you are bringing tables. Just look for us in the morning or the makeshift RF flag I have. I've got a white truck too. ;-)

If we all hit the grounds at around 8am... we should have no worries getting an area blocked off near the front of FOF.
Also... Elo was going to use her charm with one of her friends who works the parking lot to possibly block off and area for us.
I suspect that I'll be there fairely (hee! get it? FAIREly? BWAH!) early as I will be riding with da hubby and he'll have to be there in time for Fight Call. I'll just meander over from cast parking and bring whatever munchies I have secured to add to the breakfast feast. :)

Rendevious is the weekend after we do our mandatory state testing and I am stressed in advance on that already. By that weekend I will definitely need a faire fix.

I'm valuing the count on the name tags I've made... We are preparing for about 125-150 RF.comers that weekend which is an AWESOME amount.
Picture that if you will..... those who plan to photograph the masses may need to invest in a wide angle lens for this weekend. Arlington Camera rents them.... I hope we need one.... are we planning on meeting at the same place for the group photo? Someone has a R/F.com banner too?

I missed a lot of the group gathering because I was marching in the parade. As a member of the Scottish order...we are the last to be dismissed.... it's also on the absolute opposite end of the faire so if I missed meeting any of the travelers...I humbly apologize.
For those that I met.... I have nae words to describe it. I can only think of "honor".
It was such a great honor to meet people who have traveled to my home faire.... my only regrets are that it was only 2 days.
I am at Scarby every day the doors are open.... I wish you could be as well.
I thank Angus for equipping me proper with a blade to march in the 2nd largest Scottish showing for the parade.....ever! Over 110 Scots marched on Saturday and 100 marched on Sunday.
I thank Elo and Blue for coordinating the efforts.
I thank SO MANY OF YOU for all the tasty treats...the tables...the sweets.... absolutely unreal turn out!
I thank those who just said "thank you"..... wonderful people!
If I were to score this event on a 1-10 scale.... it would be a 9+ .... only because I don't believe in 10's.
