Need fabric finder help- I am in need of a verdant looking, mossy green cotton gauze for my faerie garb- but I cant seem to find one! I can find LIME GREEN gauze, and a nice dark green linen, but I am really hoping for the gauze for the more pouffy/floaty (an cheap!) aspects- I could probably DO what I want with the hankie weight linen... it's just pricier than I wanted to spend...
I have already checked all the online stores listed, and I am going to Golden D'or in Dallas this weekend to look... if you come across anything you think may work, please give a shout!
Sounds like what you need is something like a cheap and cheerful butter muslin and a couple of packs of machine dye to dye to the required colour in the washer. This works very well.
I was going to say what Kate did--buy the lime green, and dye it. In fact, dyeing gives you the option to go intentionally mottled/streaky, for even more fey effect.

Gem- i did, and it MAY be what i ultimately go with.. it's just a bit... sage-y-er than I want... but yes, if i did a tie dye with it and some lighter/darker colors of green, and maybe brown too, it COULD be a really fantastic look!

Boy you're right, there are alot of bright green cotton gauzes out there.
I think those two are exactly the same... Looks like the same pix to me! ;D
I wouldn't over-dye if you want the best colour. Better to start with white and dye to the colour you want.

If the gauze you have in mind is not the base fabric of the garment (aka, is not covering any important private body areas from view) you also have the option of using cheesecloth, dyed to the color of your choice. Since the threads are cotton, they take color *wonderfully* and all of the items you need can be picked up at a local grocery store.
Although it's overly-loose weave can seem prohibitive, simply zigzagging all of your edges prevents most fraying. I recently used cheesecloth for a comissioned faerie costume (which you may see on cast at TRF this season), and I now am hoping to experiment on strengthening the weave by zigzagging patterns over the whole breadth of the fabric.
