Seriously, I don't know whether to laugh, cry, get offended, or get excited. I'll let you decide.

this says a lot about my mindset and how freakin' long I have been in this industry (toooo damned long, need a desk job), but the first thing I thought was "Hey, slim-line the pouches or cover them with a compression band and put on a loose-ish ballgown, and you could slip female operators into a formal function with a heavier load-out and still maintain concealment and opsec..."

and then I facepalmed....

coulda been a case of Google Sepeku, a game wherein you turn off filtering for results and google randomly chosen phrases in Image Search, and see how many pages you get until you hit something that makes you regret it  ;D

Oh wow... I was reading through some of those... best line combination:

"Laces are Obsolete: Quick release Fastex buckles,do it yourself in & quick release out."
"Buckles are Obsolete: High speed low drag front zipper, for when even buckles are quick enough."

Gee, I wonder why that feature could possibly be built in...

Hint Breandan, it's not if she's getting dragged under getting out of the boat.   ;D

Perhaps a facepalm for myself is in order, but I kinda like the idea of a female operative being able to sneak in better weapons and equipment without utilizing the, erm... "traditional" hiding places.

Actually, it was posted on another forum I frequent, but the question remains: "How did they google that up?"

About a month or two ago it was mentioned on Yahoo news.  Also, the story was linked on Fark.com - so many people saw it, obviously.  They did some big comic / gaming convention in May / June as well where they "unveiled" the product.  Been around the 'net a few times.  No real Google magic involved ;)

In fact, it was mentioned on our very own forum just last month.  June 15th or so here: http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=7546.0

Neat idea .. but obviously not practical for most situations.  Unfortunately, I can see this becoming the "must-have" accompaniment for the woman whose man wears a Utilikilt and combat boots.  Not that there's anything wrong with that :)

without breaking NDA, I can say that there is currently a line of clothing being developed that is designed for formal settings, but is as well armoured as a Lvl IIIA vest. Something like this might, now that I think about it, tie into that with some modifications.

This product you speak of + the Tactical Corset = Everything an upwardly mobile socialite in a post-apocalyptic society needs for that special event

I like the concept of this, but I think it fails on the aestetic level.  The way the pouches and such are attached, it just looks like you have a bunch of random junk hanging off your belt, only it's not in quite the right place.  And I have seen corsets with buckles and zippers that manage to look much better than this one.

I'll let them try again on making it look cool, then I'll maybe think about giving them a second look.

well, to be fair, whoever attached the pouches and such did a sloppy job and don't seem to be too familiar with MOLLE straps. If interlaced properly (or if you replace the soft straps with the hard plastic strips like some of us prefer to), the pouches lock in tight as hell. My OTV MOLLE straps are locked in tight (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/zombie-proof_trunk.jpg), and with the exception of the bulky 6-mag pouch on my left side (which overhangs a bit), all of my pouches are tight to the vest. I bet that someone familiar with lacing MOLLE- and having a good dose of common sense about pouch/module placement- would actually make that corset look sharp and professional.

....did I seriously just get into the same cinching/lacing MOLLE discourse I do for novice operators in regards to a piece of fetish wear?  :-\  ???  :-\ Somewhere down the road, someone I work with will find this post and I will never hear the end of it
>.<

Well, we often say a well-boned corset is just a step away from a Bullet-proof vest.  Now you can...

And talk Steampunk - well, there you go.
