Title: Straight Lacing
Post by: Muffin on July 27, 2009, 09:00:19 AM
Can someone tell me the best way to straight lace a bodice?

My beloved Felix has bit the dust, and I might need to wear one of my other bodices that is too big on opening day at MNRF (for the first 3 hours or so, until I can get over to Felix for a new bodice! Huzzah!!)

Thanks!!!!

Are you talking about Spiral Lacing Muffin? I'm not very knowledgeable, but here's a page that will show how. It looks like the holes in the bodice need to be off set for the sides to line up properly.

Of course I could be totally off base here and there is such a thing as straight lacing. if so...sorry. :)

Thanks Anna..

I can't open the link here... I will tonight though..

I may be using the wrong term, but what I am needing to do is lace straight up the bodice with both sets of grommets laying on top of eachother to make the bodice smaller..  :)

Ah, That is an entirely different thing then!  ;D Not sure how you'd do that....

I know people around here call that "ladder lacing". I haven't done it much myself, but its not too difficult. Start wherever you want it to end up (at the bottom if you want it tied off at the bottom, ie). Leave enough left to tie it off and line the holes up. Just start going in and out like you are sewing the sides together with the lacing and make sure when you start heading back over it the second it, the lacing is going the opposite way as the first time through. Then you should have enough left to tie the ends off as usual.

Sound like what you were going for?

Muffin, I know exactly what you mean.  Unfortunately, I don't think I can do that kind of lacing.  Gusjodi laced me up in my new noble (which is now WAAY too big for me to wear) that I bought from her last year.  Perhaps you can message her and she can explain.

I understand how to do it, just not sure I can explain clearly enough.  My suggestion is to lay your bodice down on the table and try figuring it out that way before putting it on.  Bacardi should be able to pick it up fairly easily.

Thanks everyone!!

Bacardi said he thinks he might know how to do it, setting it out on a table is a good idea!! We'll give that a go!!

Or I could just be very "G" rated for the first couple of hours too.. ha! Get a little extra breathing in..  ;) :D

Here you go:

mikeoquinn.googlepages.com/bodice.pdf

you'll have to open the pdf and scroll down, but the directions for the "straight lacing" are impeccable. (to open, just copy the line above and paste into the address bar in your browser and it will go to the pdf to download it)... I keep this one in my files because it shows MANY ways to lace, and the directions are very thorough.
