Title: FIRED... ME TO.
Post by: BLAKDUKE on July 29, 2009, 08:27:24 AM
After reading the Fired thread from Trillium and the response of others, I just had to throw my 2 cents in there.  Most of you that have been there, done that, should get a kick out of this.  I got mine on 7/24 after 13+ years of glowing reviews and performance.  Because of two incompetent project leaders, who could not do my job, they say I am incompetant and write scathing reviews and bring them to Personnel.  In the meantime having had a particularly rough day I use the "open door" policy of my manager and make some comments about these individuals and he promptly, behind my back(typical management action) runs like Mercury to HR who promptly suspends me for the day and then, you guys better sit down for this one, calls me up on the phone at my home and forthwith officially terminates me.  Didn't even have the guts to do it to my face.  I am looking for DP contracting work but I am checking out some other things as well,  I don't know if I want to get back into that racket again.  It is not the same business it used to be.   However I did re-inforce a long held belief that I did not adhere to in this case,  NEVER TRUST UPPER MANAGEMENT.

Oh Blakduke, I'm sorry! I'm seeing the same types of thing go on in my company. We have a new managing partner who is a snake in the grass...literally.  We lost an office worker yesterday and nieither she nor the manager's superior knows why. People are dropping like flies because this fellow decides someone is "against" him, regardless of what their work shows. It's horrid.

I am not as bad off as alot of people I know.  I have my SSA, and my retirement funds.  I'll be using them a bit earlier than I planed, but at least I have them.  Hopefully I can land a contract somewhere, someplace, somewhen.

Drat! So sorry Blakduke! A similar thing happened to Lord A- after 15 years of work Patents and write ups in national semi conductor publications. Incompetent managers who could not manage a cat box!  Fie on them all! Are hexes and curses needed?  My wand is at the ready!!! Best of luck!

Hugs to you Blakduke. I too have seen plenty of snakes in management, and only my firm belief in karma keeps me going somedays. It may take while sometimes, but they do get what is due them.

Best of luck to you! Lots of good, positive energy being sent your way.

Blue skies and fair winds, my friend.  Corporate America won't play fair until you drag them into court.   Never thought I'd see it....... Don't let the bastards get you down.....

GET ME DOWN???????   I would not give the bastards the satisfaction.   I will move on and forward.  None of them are worth spending a nano-second in jail or in the dumps for.   Thanks friends for the moral support.  It is more than I have gotten from people whom I called friends.   I will let you all know how things work out.

It's times like this you find out who your true friends:  People that I have known for years and called me friend have not been heard from in days.   A man who I have a car/parts deal with to be completed in the fall offered to pay part of the tab now, I WOULD NOT KNOW THIS MAN FROM ADAMS HAT BAND AND HE OFFERS THIS.  My own cousin has not bothered to call me.  And yet I hear from this man and all of you who , with a few exceptions have never met me personally offer your thoughts and prayers.   And get this, people where I used to work are being told not to talk to me, by this HR jackass.   This HR weasel has to be put in his place some how.

I've noticed that most HR people seem to forget the "H" part of HR... we're all just freaking numbers to them.

Good Luck, friend.

That's how is was in my old job, if they fired someone they would do it quietly and Sr. management would make subtle comments not to talk to the former employee.  They want to you to feel ashamed and slink out the side door and not say anything, which is what all the others had done.  I didn't go for that.  I went around and said goodbye to my friends and told them what happened.  I am not ashamed, we all know the true reasons they fired me.

I'm really sorry you were put in this situation. I think the HR guy will get his one day.
My best hopes that you find a new and better position soon.

Best revenge is to live on happily.  I got canned after turning in 30 days worth of notice.  I have since started my new career after enjoying the 3ish weeks of unemployed time.  My unemployment claim was under review this entire time and I just got contacted by a lady from the reviewing department.  I told her the sequence of events, she was entirely sympathetic, and said that she's seeing people getting let go in record numbers for little to no reason at all.   La is a "free to fire" state.

Grov:

So is Georgia and Florida.  I do not know what the reasons are for denial unless for out and out theft.  HR can word almost whatever they want to make one look bad.  Fortunatly for me the reasons they used are all technical reasons of which the HR twit knows nothing of and has admitted such on a number of occasions.  I can just about take him apart on any technical issue if an appealed review comes about.  Another aspect is that it is all over town in any setting you wish to view that the company is letting long term people gp for any excuse they can come up with.  So I hope that I have a chance.

BLAKDUKE,
Is there a way you can file a grievance against this person in the HR Department that is spreading all these lies about you? If you were to do so then who knows maybe you could get your old job back.

So sorry to hear this, Blakduke.  It seems corporations are forgetting that it's the little people that got them to where they are today.  They cut anyone away on just a whim, without any thought put into it.  The head thinks it can survive without the body, which obviously isn't the case.  Good luck with landing a new contract!

Oops, put me on this list again.  My golden opportunity internship just went belly up with one days notice.  Today is our last day there but they hope that we'll all apply for full time hiring in a couple months.  Not sure if I want to seek full on perm position or just get something to hold me over til I can take my chance at getting on at Entergy again.  Gonna mull it over this weekend and treat myself a little bit.

Well things are looking up a bit.  No offers yet but some good feedback.  I had a long talk with a long term friend of mine who was in the D.P. consulting game for years and he told me that a lot of the things that I am experiencing are normal.  It is currently a buyers market and the companies are all asking for the moon.  I looked at one job a couple of weeks ago and they had 30 requierments.  There are not 5 people together who could have met those let alone 1 person.   I do have 1 lead that I hope to hear from.  It's a job in Omaha Nebraska, 1K miles away from home, but it is a 6 month contract and it is with the company that is the direct competitor of the company I just left, now there would be justice.

BLAKDUKE,
I'm glad to hear that things are starting to look up a little for you my friend. Just continue to keep your fingers crossed and before you know it you'll be back to work in no time.

Unfortunately I had to move out of state... missing the fair for the second time now!  (And second state to boot!)
