Title: Bodice grommets/lacing
Post by: Thumper on July 29, 2009, 12:26:28 PM
I am making a wench styled bodice.  ie, the pattern is from Alter years.

From what I have read spiral lacing requires the grommets to be offset.  While straight lacing, or other types require even non-off set grommets.

I am curious which way everyone else prefers to make their bodices.

Spiral lacing does not require the grommets to be offset.  You can spiral lace with "standard" grommet settings as well.  My lady spiral laces everything but uses a standard set to do it.  The standard set seems to work best as I've seen the offset ones as well and they seem to offset the fabric as well if you're not careful.  If you are going to do the offset, the main thing to remember is at the bottom and top you need to have one set across from one another or you will have problems.  Sort of like this:
