Title: groups for the crotchety misanthrope
Post by: Breandan on August 01, 2009, 11:47:25 PM
I need a favor... I need to find a group to hang out with at Patron's that my misanthropic wife can also enjoy. A bit of background to 'splain...

Between spending the past several years as an MP and a security contractor, topped off by a recent less-than-pleasant stint on active duty that just ended in March- my beloved wife has evolved into a crotchety curmudgeon who has ZERO tolerance for stupidity and immature antics of the general population of... Well, most of the planet, frankly. We went to patrons and five minutes at the bonfire had her growling and damn near putting a drunk who got too close on the ground with a brand new Gumby-action arm. Now, she DID enjoy the women dancing at one of the camps (she appreciates lovely women dancing as much as us lads  ;D ), but the attendant drunken boys she wanted to snap in half.

I need to find a group we can both enjoy hanging out with- fairly small, mature, without being tightarsed, and not prone to throwing kegs or themselves in a fire. Dancing redheads are a plus :D

Thoughts?

A curmudgeon group would suit me too. After 8 yrs of being called nasty names, and a few pot-shots, my debauchery tolerence limit is low.

PM Lishy.  She is working on a new group.  We want to have fun and enjoy eachother's company, but no drama or crazy crap! ;D Good luck!

Not sure if we will make it to camp this year.  But if we do, we would be welcome to company.

Note: nothing wrong with being that way, though it does lead to tension headaches for dealings with the general population are generally unavoidable. Kudos for saying "evolved" for it is indeed an evolution out of the mainstream sheeple to see just how ridiculous most of the population of this planet is. Nothing wrong with good, mature fun with like-minded people over spending time with the puerile-minded.  ;) :)

ROFL @ Herc!!!

I think there is a growing divide- there are the 'youth' (who i think, as mentioned in the Campground...$20 post, are there just for the party) and THEN there are the Rennies, who are, for the most part, lots of fun but not typically in a 'Darwin Award' sort of way (for the most part!)

It's a matter of finding like-minded friends! We tend to be on the quiet side- we like to sit by our fire, talking to friends, drinking, and listening to ren-related music...

I enjoy just sitting around the fire and hanging out, or wandering over to friends at a nearby camp to chat with them, share food, join in a private drum circle, dance, and enjoy the poi spinners and fire breathers. Its always hard because I have friends that spin and whenever they do away from the main drum circle, it ends up drawing crowds. They moved away from the main circle for a reason, people don't know how to stay back and away from the fire.

I am one of the exceptions of the young'uns that come to faire!  ;D If I wanted to get drunk, I wouldn't drive 4+ hours to do so.

Whether it be with ML or with DG, I will come wandering through to say hi to folks.

Oh, I know! No worries. I always have to laugh a little to myself, especially when I pulled into camp last All Hallows Eve super late and they kept turning around cars full of kids who didn't have tickets and were only coming out to party and do drugs. It made me feel good that I wasn't one of those kids.

I appreciate the suggestions. Since we camp above the blacksmith shop, we actually sleep inside faire, so this is more of a social gathering than a camping thing, but we'll try to make it out to see some of you folks  :)

I'll actually be camping above the shop for the season as well, except for Opening, Halloween, and Closing. If you want, we could do a meet up ingrounds after cannon and head out to Patrons together to do some exploring on the off weekends!

I can't speak for Clan McLotofus, but I will say that they are a very friendly and welcoming crew that would love to have you come by and spend time with them.
I can speak for Phoenix Risen and I extend that invitaion to you. We are also a mature (Not old, just not too wild) group that loves to set around the fire and enjoy fellowship and perchance a bottle or two. I'm afraid we don't offer naked slip and slide like some of the other groups (not McLotofus), but what you do in private is entirely up to you.   ::)

Seen one naked slip and slide... seen them all...
I have become so jaded. Things like that have totally lost shock value for me anymore.
The shared bottle around the fire however... never ever gets old.

*especially if it be a rum bottle*

My sons will be celebrating Highland knowing that a group of ren friends are brave enough to undertake a crazy old women into their mist.

"naked slip and slide"?  ???

If this is what I'm used to at north island (Lake Texoma) there must be a lot of strawberry cheeks around there.

That right there is my ideal weekend. :) Sitting around a campfire, talking to friends, meeting random new people, sipping on the ol' rum (or Loki... it is is faire, after all) bottle, listening to stray drum beats and bagpipes... *sigh* can faire hurry and get here like now, please? I miss it. >.<

Honestly, Most camps (away from the slum circle) are just as Z and Teach describe.  Good people sharing time together with the common interest of getting away from the real world for a few hours.  Sharing drink, food and laughter.  Its the main reason, I believe, that even after falling outs, certain clans are still able to be social.

My clan is much smaller than McL or RP but no different in goals.  We come together as fairemily for the weekend.  We gather around our own campfire, leaving open chairs for visitors.  We socialize with our neighbors and all in all have a great time not being morons.

(Quite easy for my group since we are made up engineers and other professionals)

Feel free to stop by and hang out for awhile.  Clan Procrastination sets up camp on the row 0 road directly behind the Chaos camp.

I keep hearing about the  McLotofus clan..I wish to know more about them..can someone direct me? And I too have about had it with people coming to my camp in the middle of the night looking to score, burning themselves in my fire cause they don't have the sense or coordination to walk around it (niot my friends...outlanders!), and random acts of...well, I don't blame his wife honestly. Perhaps it's because I camp so close to the drum circle, but it's our traditional area with plenty of room to spare. I love to have people visit, leave chairs open for those that wish to sit, share a drink, tell some stories, but it has gotten in the past a bit..ridiculous. Here Here. I too am looking to make some friends, call me curmudgeon myself...I kind of like the way it sounds.
