My comics man, John at Midnight Comics & Games on 6 & Westheimer, Houston, told me yesterday that he has got a ComicPalooza in the works for March 26 - 28, 2010 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Although none of the guests have been officially announced, he has good reason to expect that Phil Foglio (of Girl Genius fame and XXXenophile infamy) will be there. He is also in talks with Hellboy creator, Mike Mignola (I'm sure his & the clerk's ears are still ringing from the scream I let out in the shop on THAT news).
If you have an act or are a vendor looking for a venue, drop him a line at comicpalooza@gmail.com. They will be charging a nominal entry fee and won't be able to pay a lot to acts, but the acts would be welcome to sell their items, t's & cds & such.
This is truly a from "small acorns grow mighty oaks" story. His first comics gathering was last year in the movie lobby of the Batman opening; earlier this year he held one at West Oaks Mall. From there he received enough publicity to start putting together the upcoming ComicPalooza. They have special rates set up with the hotel for the event. I'm really looking forward to this!
I thought you said it was a secret!!! I see how you are... you just wanted to make sure you were the first one to blurt it out!!! ROFLMAO!!!
You kinda rock a little, Taffy!
I wouldn't have done it w/o John's go-ahead to put out the word. But I kept it (mostly) to myself - right, Rani?
Yeah... mostly!!! ROFL
On the calender! I know a bunch of folks, including a few costumers, who will be interested in that!
The Foglios won a Hugo Award last night for Best Graphic Story (Girl Genius, Volume 8, Agatha Heterodyne & the Chapel of Bones). It was the first award for Best Graphic Story & was announced by Neil Gaiman, which is just the cherry on the Awesome sundae.
WooT!!! Go Foglios!!! How incredibly UBER Awesome is that?!?
