I have been honored with the task of presenting a new clan to the renfaire world.

We are Phoenix Risen!

Camp Thug: Dennis

Leaders of the clan truly are servants of the clan. We do not take lightly the responsibilities we are given. There will be other positions such as Camp Boss that will be filled as time goes by. These positions were determined based on who was present last night. They are not necessarily the final word on who will be in what spot forever. Those of us with 2 or more jobs will be seeking someone to take one of the positions off our hands as time permits.

We would also like to announce an open enrollment period. From now until TRF starts we will be accepting new members. Anyone who wishes to join, please contact Teach or Zaubon and we will let you know what to do. Open enrollment means we are not having a sponsorship period. All new members must be approved. We will not add anyone to the roster until you have made contact.  After TRF starts, we accept membership applications until the end of faire when we will make an announcement of who has been accepted.

We would also like to announce our intention to camp at row 0 across the road from Chaos. We realize that this will depend largely on the land grab at the time. Exact location will depend on the camp boss for the weekend.

There will shortly (by the end of the week) be a website set up with all of the clans rules, member lists, leader positions (and the explanations thereof) and anything else we can think of to add. If you have *any* questions before then please feel free to contact any one of the clan leaders you wish and we will be happy to help.

OK, I am starting to get questions from different folks on different things (rules etc.)
So this will be a FAQ posting that I will add to as questions come in.

Question: Can I belong to other clans along with this one?
Certainly! We are not in the business of telling you who you cannot hang out with. Your friends are your friends.
We do ask that if you want friends to camp with us that you ask beforehand however. This is mostly to help with planning.

Question: Do I need to be a member to camp with you?
Of course not. We realize there are reasons that you may not be able to commit to a clan. Again, just ask ahead of time so that we can save space for you etc.

Question: You guys have a lot of food, isn't that expensive?
Yep. Also time consuming. If you are camping or eating with us we ask two things. 1- To help on costs we are figuring a donation of $20 per adult per weekend is enough to cover all meals. If you only plan to eat one meal, a donation of $5 would cover you just fine. 2- Help clean up! Pitching in to help clean after meals is everyone's responsibility. If you don't know where to pitch in, as the weekend's camp boss where you can help.

Question: Do I have to camp with you guys every time I am out there?
Nope. Truthfully you can be a member who doesn't even camp. We are here to have fun, not infringe on you having fun.

Question: What are your membership requirements?
These will be posted on our website once it is up. Gimme time to get that one together. Probably be Tuesday of next week when I actually get it all ready.

Question: How do I join?
Currently you can just send a note to me or Zaubon and we'll take it from there. Once the site is up, there will be a contact form to fill out.

Question: What are your clans rules/policies?
We have those written out, but they will be posted on our site. (Kinda long post and I don't want to fill the thread with long boring stuff). If you have specific questions just send them to one of the leaders listed above and we will answer as best we can.

Question: My clan doesn't allow me to join other clans, what can I do?
We will have an "honorary member" section for those who want to be listed as such. Ask your clan if that is acceptable and we will list you in that fashion.

Question: Do I need to post in this thread to be considered?
Not exactly. You can definitely do it that way and that does help us in keeping track of things, but all you really need to do is send me or Zaubon a note.

That's the most common ones I have been asked so far. If you have any question for the clan please feel free to ask. I will be adding to this list as questions come in.

Sigh... I was told that rule wasn't feasible but no one is stopping you if you want to do it on your own.*

Huzzah! And welcome to those who are interested in Phoenix Risen, either as potential members or just from curiosity.  We are a group of friends that enjoy faire and sharing with one another.  While we are still new and developing what will be our final form, we will be working from a set of written rules that have been mostly decided upon, but are subject to revision as we learn and develop into exactly what we want to be.
I'm sure many of you are wondering at the odd sounding and arrogant titles we have chosen for ourselves. Those titles are a deliberate attempt on our part to remind ourselves to first, not take ourselves too seriously, and secondly to remind us that we are here to have fun. While I am Boss, the Board will operate in a very open manner, while not boring the membership with the day to day details of trying to get and keep organized.
Please be patient with us, and in a few days the new web site will be up and you are all invited to look over the rules and other basic information we have to offer. 
As has been said several times already, if you have questions do not hesitate to contact Teach or myself.

You just did contact us, both. If you have something specific that you want to talk about in a less public forum that's fine, please do so. But if all you really want to do is announce your desire to join, you have accomplished your mission.

Well Antoinette has said she prefers to let me do this part so if there is a role that needs filling or a task that needs done I have to say I am willing to do what is needed.......all y'all have to do is let me know .... Lish has my number and can fill me in on whatever it is......BTW sorry I couldn't make Sat. I had to work a 16 hr. day. We sooooo can't wait till faire so we can have all the fun that there is to have with our new fairmily.

Hey, just wondering. There was a tiny patch of land at row 0 last year, and it was occupied by Clan Procrastination. I think it's Kilted Privateer and Lady Kitara. Will you be further back then?

Welcome to all to of our new happy family members. Please give Teach rum, but please limit the amount because he does have a job to perform in service to the clan. To those of you I know...glad to have your continued company...to those of us that don't, when I have to do the itsy bitsy spider bit...small warning I don't wear boxers and have a gut. We just don't know yet... we are going to try and not disturb anyone... but still have enough room

I say I must agree with Lishy...  I think if he can hide the bottle and give you a small amount in a cup or something.  But I'm afraid you might run away with the bottle as well.

Lord Dragonspyre of course you are welcome to come visit, the same as everyone is invited to visit. I will just add an addendum that because of some things that have transpired, there are some members that retain some personal animosity and may not wish to speak with you; please respect their feelings, as I know you will.

Well I did say you could borrow it one day when I was out there and I don't like going back on what I say.  I just didn't know if you have gotten a better offer :)  If I find a camera body I want to buy I can float it on credit card for a while if need be till after you get a chance to use the lens and then sell it off.  No worries, it was just so I could have a second camera body so I have two lenses at the ready and don't miss shots because I don't have the lens ready.

I know you were looking forward to it, so I will hold off on selling it.  I have found a deal on a used Canon XTi body (already what I have now) and am committed to buying it.  So I shall be toting around 2 cameras this season... we'll see how that works out.

Well, I am always in for DRAMA FREE environments!!!!!!!  I hate drama, I hate people who like to make drama, and I also hate people who hate others and talk about it all the time... haha!!!  I really do try to simply love all people all the time and avoid the people who don't love me back, and be as kind to them as possible when I do have to see them.

So with that being said, I think this is the group for me and my sis.  We won't be camping with ya'll at TRF since we'll most likely be in participants, but we still want to hang with ya'll!!  Plus, some of my fav peeps are in this group and I can't imagine not being involved with ya'll!!  So... can we join...please??

My mom sent my first aid kit in mine when I went to college.  Guess she figured she'd give me an early start- ;D

This group sounds like the group for me and my wife.  We'll get out to TRF for a couple of weekends during the season and I'd love to start camping out with some good folks while at faire.
 
So if we can wiggle our way in some how some way..............that would be great!!

Also, I'd like to help out getting a camp site ready for the group at Sherwood.  We went out there this past weekend for a gathering and we really enjoyed ourselves.  I've got a chain saw and some tools that would be useful in clearing out an area. 
Maybe we could make arrangements to get in on a Saturday, stay Saturday evening, and break camp on Sunday.  If we could
get a hand full of folks out there one weekend soon, we could lay claim to an area and clear it out nice for camping next spring
during the Faire.

So if I'm allowed to join Phoenix Risen and anyone else is up for some camp clearing at Sherwod, post up and let's put a plan together.

Rani, the flask(s) that ran out on me that day were the loki ones. Pretty amazing considering there were 5 of them and only 2 still had any left by the end of the day.
Jello shots *can* be made with pretty much any alcohol, but everclear ones tend to hold up better. I have used rum, vodka, bourbon and even gin to make them but everclear does work best in my experience.

*the rum flask was nearly empty at the end of that day... it was a good day of faire I sez*

That's great! Chris doesn't drink any carbonation either, and he says it makes him feel better.  I don't smoke, or drink any alcohol, coffe, or tea, so I need my vice, darnit!! I was convince to give up soda at one point (and replaced it with coffee FYI).
I was only drinking Diet Dew at the time but was drinking quite a bit of it.
I lost almost 20 pounds that month and that was the only change I made.
Now I only have an occasional soda when we go out to eat or something like that.

I had gone over 5 years without a soda and started drinking them again off and on.  About the only time I really had them was in my mixed drinks...hmmm...here is where I kiss my better half's butt and remind all that she is not cheap.....and not easy either!  Whew almost forgot the second part.  I'm sure I'll catch hell when she rolls in and finally sees this post!

I've gone almost 5 hours without a soda....

but I am down to (about) one a day. that helped lose weight about a year ago.

Well, seeing as Im Diabetic and have been for 17 years, which means I cant eat sugar, cant smoke, VERY rarely drink anymore, and have to avoid things that are too salty or fried. . . There's one up for auction now that made of high grade buffalo hide... ah, but it's brown, and wouldn't really match the "flask coat"... Oh well, I'll keep looking...  ;)  LOL

Camping site at Sherwood? 

Are there plans to get out to Sherwood this Sat or in the very near future to lay claim to a designated camping site for the clan?  I see on the yahoo group for Sherwood that the fellow that is heading up that for the faire is asking for reps from the different clans/groups to let him know if they would like to get out there this weekend.  I'd be more then willing to help other clan members find a site and help with the clearing and cleaning up of the site.   

So if there are "behind the scene plans" that are already underway, please keep my in the loop. 

There are plans to set up a campground at Sherwood, but no plans to go out this weekend that I know of. At some point, several of us do need to get with mpullen and map out exactly where we will be camping.
Hopefully we can get that done fairly soon.

AnnMarie, Tell Chris to get his deviant mind to work. We have plenty of time to find something that will quite embarrass the unembarrassable one.

Yeah, Norman is always on Scarby's opening weekend, and I was guest cast this year, so I couldn't make it down there.  Our Gypsy camp has been invited back next season, but I'll just have to see.

TRF virgin here, but I'll be right in the midst of the craziest crews to be found, so I doubt I'll stay my sweet, innocent self for long...  :o  Faire-ly well corrupted by the end of the first night, I'm sure... ROFL  ::)  :P

Sherwood is the new faire going up outside Austin. It will be open last weekend of February (my bday weekend woo!)
Camping for us at TRF, we will be in a new area. Hopefully row 0. Just going to have to wait, hope and pray that we get where we want to be.

OK, we have out first casualty at camp
2 of Zaubon's EZ ups have taken damage in the storms that have been going through the area today.
One of the two is totalled, the second is tied to a tree to keep it stable.
If you have an EZ up please bring it to add to the kitchen area.
