i cant believe this will be the last weekend. we missed this weekend, just to busy and the forecast didnt help motivate us either. did it rain today (sunday?) we will be there next sunday, the last day. hopefully we will get to the pub sing, we never seem to get there. was thinking of going to parf in october just to stretch the season out, but dunno. i would have to get a dog sitter and with 3 dogs its hard.
It rained a little in the afternoon, maybe 10 minutes. The rest of the day was just overcast and humid, or what we call normal.
No definitely not a washout on Sunday. A bit of rain that, once it fell, never left. Humidity was the biggest problem.
About that rain, though:
I was at Merry Mischeif's performance at the Court Pavlion. They were performing out in the banches, rather than on stage, a wonderful, intimate sing-along gathering. We heard the rain start, and they both looked around, concerned that they might need to make a dash for the pavilion. We could see it was raining all around us, but not ON us. Someone said, keep playing, you're playing the rain away.
That shower stopped after a couple of minutes, but 5 minutes later it started raining again, and this time there was no respite. We all retired to the pavilion, the music started again, and all was well with the world. Tho I have to admit I felt a little awkward up there, standing next to Merlyn as if I was one of the performers. I just add a bass line where I can, and keep time with my stave.

That's exactly where I was, BrotherBarnabus! I stayed out on the steps to the stage so the rain could cool my noggin. It was great fun to pack everyone onto that multi-tier stage, like the audience becoming part of the show. Good times!
As others have said - two brief rain storms, one very brief. The humidity was a drag - you felt like you were breathing underwater, but in all, an excellent day at faire.
Topped off for Me by a returning patron from 8 or so years ago who just finished a military hitch.

Did you have the tartan or the plain kilt? I had the red bandanna on my head and red ribbons round the arms.

I had the Dark Blue tartan, Hunting MacRae, and the elk antler staff.
I'll be there both days of last weekend. Bittersweet is the only word I can up with ;D + :'(
I'm gonna try to go more days next year.
Will anyone else join myself & Irish at the Bad Dog Sunday 2pm ish ???
YES! Please join us for one last pint! (make mine a coke...lol) :P
One last pint.........one last song to sing.........one last "God Save The Queen!"........then you work on next year!!! ;D
I have met fine people from nominating Sterling for RenDezvous. People who have become friends. Now we will plan a 'mini~me~rendevous'.... ::), for next year!!! So watch for the thread, sometime next year and then we all can decide on a good date! :) Nothing fancy......just a get together, with friends!! 8)

my wife thinks im crazy, but i thought it would be cool to have a party sometime in october for r/f people to come to in garb. yeah i know i dont know anyone, but it would be fun.
Duffy, a few of us have been kicking around the idea of a garbed event outside of Faire ~ especially since there are quite a few of us who haven't had the opportunity to meet up this season ~ I say Go For It! :)
...Irish, SterlingFan, I'll see you at 2pm on Sunday! (if not before ;D )
we will be there next sunday and try to make the bad dog meet. you get so caught up yah lose time.
as for the get together, i would guess it would all depend on how many people would be interested and would actually come. i have 3 acres with trails, a swamp and some open area. could have a camp fire and you could even camp if you liked. i also have a finished bathroom in my walk out basement with easy access to outside. would be best to do it on my vacation im thinking 0ct 4 a sunday or either day the following weekend 10th or 11th.
ill try to post some pics of my place if you are interested, i cant link to a public forum so i will have to figure something out
posted pics of my place here if you are bored and want to look

And Duffy i think that you have a great idea of a get together, Count me in.
I will try to remember to get to the Bad Dog around 2 on Sun. Also, Duffy if you are in the Rochester area I my have a dog sitter for you. Check out www.dogsatyourfeet.com the owner is a friend of mine.
See you all soon!
Duffy, I'd say your place looks like the perfect place for a get-together! You've done LOVELY work on your property :)
I won't know my work schedule until closer to the date, so pencil me in as a definite maybe ;)
HUZZAH! It looks like we'll be camping this weekend as well (we had no problem reserving a tent site; Thanks, PhotoMike!) ~ we'll drive up Saturday late afternoon/evening, spend Sunday at Faire, and camp Sunday night as well ;D
GOODY........come seek us out at Bad Dog Tavern........near Trial and Dunke!!

Does anyone know what we have for weather this Saturday? It doesn't really matter, I'm going no matter what, just want to know what to expect.

(we may have become a little side-tracked somewhere along the line )*edit to add ~ This weekend looks PERFECT ;D *
Goody - Something tells me there will be a couple of new marshmellow launchers coming back. Enjoy the weekend.
After so many years of yearning to go we have finally been able to attend. One entire weekend and a spur of the moment trip on a Sunday. We will be there this weekend, both days. It seems the time has went too fast and the wife and I are already looking forward to next year. For now we will come this weekend, soak up as much as possible and enjoy our selves. We hope to meet some of you and we will try to make it to the Bad Dog.
As we are new at this do you have any traditional things, (Other than snifferling and/or wailing) that you do to mark the passing of another season?
Until this weekend.
Us known as Glorianas Geldings (those who pull the carriage) usually wander into the Bad Dog as we end the parade and park the carriage. Somewhere around 2:15-2:20ish. I will be sure to look for you all in there!
I'll be there too, but I have to make sure I get to Fallstaff's for the final game of dice.
I would love to come for at least one day for the final weekend, but alas the wife has to work all weekend and I dare not go without her. At least we are already planning to go next year either to the fantasy, pirate, or gypsy weekend. Here's to looking at a great season this year and a most excellent season next year!
We will be there both days this weekend with our Canuk friends in tow as well. If I can manage to steer them all in the right direction, I'll try to pass through the Bad Dog around 2ish. So much to do, so little time...
And the weather looks great too! Thanks for the link Tygrkat
You're welcome, NicoleBridget :)

It didn't rain that much on Sunday?!?! It was a monsoon over in Skaneateles, so I assumed (and heard) it would be just as terrible over by Sterling.... I need a TV...
A brief shower around 1:30 or so, a break for 5-10 minutes, then a shower for about 15 minutes. Ended in time for the Royal Parade, and no rain after that until after closing. Though the humidity was bad enough that most folks never really dried out. :(
Closing weekend looks to be hot and dry.

This thread is making me sad. I work both Sat and Sun, so there will be no more Sterling for me. But I want to thank everyone so much, because my 3 trips up there were the highlights of my summer. I really want to try to audition to be on cast next summer. It seems like the perfect thing! Otherwise, who knows where in the country I'll be...
So here's hoping I'll meet you all again next year!
Looks like it will be a nice weekend. Warm, and humid , but no rain.
I will be thinking of you all . I may not be able to be there in person, but I will be there in my heart and spirit with you.
Thanks to Sir Douglas and cast and crew for keeping Sterling alive and going, and to what appears to have been a good season, despite the weather.
Here is to next season ! See everyone next year I hope ! :)
awwwwwwwww....well I do hope you will invade our shire next year!
take care!!!!!

For those of you who will be there Sunday - the final Final Pub sing will include a Sterling tradition - the Rose Parade.
this is a tradition unique to Sterling, to my knowledge, and exemplifies the relationship between the regulars, the cast and staff of Sterling - which in itself is nearly unique in faires.
The fact that it is also an emotion twisting, gut wringing, sentimental ending to a season is a bonus.
But if you are there, it is something not to be missed.
we will be there

I am not sure the formentioned is a bonus, But i would not miss it for anything. Unfortunately i am feeling it already.
OMG..the 'rose parade'......makes me cry so much.
Lordie.......don't get me started!
Maybe I should bring a truck load of tissues?
:'(
Interesting. We've always tended to go toward the beginning of the season. I've never heard of, much less seen, the rose parade. Sounds intriguing.
Not a dry eye in the house. I even cry a little, on the inside...in a manly way.
The first time I have ever seen Marie truly speechless. One of the most memorable rose parades in many years.
