Title: Ravenshire Renn Faire
Post by: LadyFireKissed on August 11, 2009, 07:50:29 AM
So just out of curiosity, is anyone here going to be at the Ravenshire Rennaisance Faire in Palisade, CO?  I was just wondering if there will be anyone there that I could look for?

Myself and Cynthia will be there.  I have gone several times before and love the relaxed atmosphere and all the mead samplings.

sadly, not I... infants and 5 hour car rides don't mix too well... perhaps next year when the spawnling is older

I am pretty sure I will be going, on Saturday.  I have a friend who lives out there and is working a tarot table, so I may just suck up the drive (and the money) and camp with her.  I figure it'll be a good chance to get Fritzie out of the bag before I take her to Santa Fe.  A dry run, if you will.  ;)

I will be there...when not firing canons on the Highlander's Kiss, I'll probably be doing spinning demos under a shade tree somewhere. Stop and say hello!

Wow!  more people than I thought!  cant wait to see everyone,  I am such a newbie at this that if anyone wants to help me come up with a character and help refine my outfit it would be so very apriciated.  the only people that I think that I have seen last year is adriana and angelhood, though only from a distance.  All of you please come and find me and teach me.  I have red hair and am wearing a green bodice with a blue skirt and a green one over that, just got some boots, I have a distintive set of keys on my belt. . .  like I said please come looking for me because I will be looking for you guys!

Friday, August 21st - fair times are 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Saturday, August 22nd - fair times are 10:00 am - 10:00 pm
Sunday, August 23rd - fair times are 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

I won't be there- but you might get to see my twin brother Dennis and his wife Marge. You might recognize them as the couple who invented foaming hand soap.

For anyone who knows...
As a newbie who has only attended the Faire in Larkspur before, how would you rate the Ravenshire Faire? I know that it's smaller, but I'd kinda like to know a little more about it before I splurge on tickets and the drive up there. I'm already leaning toward going but I just thought that I would check with people who know that Faire first.
Also, is it fairy/dragon/magical-not-really-authentic-renaissance friendly?
Title: Re: Ravenshire Renn Faire
Post by: LadyFireKissed on August 19, 2009, 09:52:33 PM
to be honest, i am really new at this also, and it's the only one that I have been to.  I wanted to go to larkspur but it was here and gone before I knew it.  It is small, and they tend to have the same things time and again, but I love it because you get to know everyone, and it is very cozy and homey.  Palisaide has two meaderys there in town so you can get some to take home if you wish, plus it is for sale there.

As far as "fairy/dragon/magical-not-really-authentic-renaissance friendly. . ."  there is the nobles in the more "authentic" of course, but there are also the gypsys, and the pirates.  I dont know why they wouldn't be friendly to that,  and besides, you paid your money, come as what you want, have fun!  hope this helped?

bye the way, just out of curiosity, what were you thinking of coming as?

Thanks for the review! Us newcomers have to stick together, right?
I was going to come as a dragon, which is why I wanted to know about the magic thing. At Larkspur, there's fairies and another dragon so I kinda blend in; I wanted to know how much I was going to stick out especially since I know that some people are really into the whole 'authentic Renaissance' thing.

Hey... which dragon were you?  if you were the red one, I think I sold you a mug....??

I was the red one, and you sold me a leather mug with the red dragon on it.
(This probably doesn't really belong here, but I want to know... Why is the wax cracking so much? Is it just supposed to do that?)
Honestly, I just want another excuse to run around and scare small children. This Faire seems like the best thing that I can get to before the costume retires this year. That, and I might be able to find more cool hamster-loving Faire people to talk to!

ok to tell you the truth, as a dragon, yea you might stick out, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, you will have a great time, you just want to be comfortable with people.  being a small fair, anybody in am outfit gets drawn in at some point.  ya never know, you might have to fight one of the "knights"  they would proably like that better than fighting with funnoodles :D

Compared to CRF, Ravenshire is extremely small and there's a lot less going on.  You can walk around the grounds in a matter of a few minutes.  I think of it as more of a "hang out" kind of faire than something like CRF or AzRF.

Your dragon will likely draw a lot of attention, but that's half the fun, right?

One of the big differences is ITS FLAT  ;D

And its in a nice park that is grass.  There are several people that just walk barefoot.   Last year pktaxwench showed up with her crew in their Pirates of the Caribbean outfits with her husband as Davey Jones.  They were an extreme hit.

I BELIEVE that they are not but that nobody listens to that in any way shape or form.  the bigest thing is just make sure they are well behaved.

I was around from about 7-7:45 last night, dressed in "casual" rennie style though  ;)  Just a blue corset, black skirt, black boots.

The faire is definitely much bigger than last year!

So it sounds like everyone had fun, It was so much fun to be fireflickers "handler".  It would take her an hour to go where anybody else could go in a minute or less, trying to leep her hyderated was a bit of a challenge, but we had a very good friend from the royals let us know that water was always avalible to us.  I got burned to a chrispy critter, but it was worth it.  I stayed after hours and was able to see some wonderfull stars, and firedancing.  the guys with the stilts (fox and fish if I remember right) were very kind in letting a few people try stiltwalking, it was funny to see who fell time after time and who got it right away.  I got to see some old faces but I got to make many more friends, many of whom I was able to hand out the favors that I made (I had none left so I will consider that a good sign ;D ).   More than anything, I truly did not want it to end, it really makes it a place where you can finally be home and  escape your mundane life.

I've posted a bunch of pictures on The Highland Rogues' fan page on Facebook if you'd like to check them out. I'm afraid they are mostly of the ship and crew. I didn't get much of a chance to wander around and snap pictures what with being promoted to captain this weekend.

It was a blast up there this weekend.  It might have been way hot on Saturday but the weather was wonderful on Sunday.  It was great to see our Queen Ann having fun and playing with her cousin Queen Cyn.  I am in deep appreciation of the hospitality of the Court and both Rogue fleets up there.  I enjoy going to this Faire each year and will continue to come again in the future.

Thank you to all the RF people that I got to meet up there this weekend.

Being a spotter, for what is esentially a body puppet can be a rough, demanding job.  It's more then being eyes & ears and support.  it can also be defense.  Even the beloved unicorn at faire has been attacked by durnken arse's more then once.  Kudos to you!

Hey, I just wanted to thank everyone for making it such an awesome event! Lady Firekissed, i just wanted to thank you again for all the help that you gave me- I know that sometime it can be hard to be on kid duty for a rawr dragon.

Hopefully, I'll see you all again next year!

Fireflicker I would do it again in a heartbeat, it was an honor.  I cannot wait to see you again and I know that our other friend would say the same.  In fact he is really hoping that you will join his guild.  It can be a interesting job especially when the dragon decides that it does not talk, lucky dragon (couldn't have possibly been so that she didn't HAVE to talk to people all the time, could it),  so you have to communicate to people that she is not, in fact, "a dog". ;D.

Hi, Fireflicker, it was a joy to have you visit Our Court at Ravenshire this year. And as far as Guild membership is concerned, I am putting the info together that your mother requested. I know that your young friend will be happy about that. You met me as Lady Elysabeth Ashby Valentine, of the Order of the Azure Rose, though I am known as Lady Eriu on these threads. I do hope that you join us again in Ravenshire next year.

Try that. It will only work if you already have a facebook account. In fact it may not work because you will have to sign in. The best way I can tell you to find it is to sign into facebook. Then on the top right side where it has the little white box with a magnifying glass next to it, type in The Highland Rogues. That will take you directly to our fan page. The photo albums are on the bottom left of that. One is from the 2009 Ravenshire faire.  The other is from various guns shows in the past seven years that we have performed.

I hope this helps.
