Hey Everyone.
I tried to make a scholar's cloak for this past years show and it didn't quite turn out as i would have hoped. After looking at the make of the cloak, I realized it wouldn't be very hard to make some alterations in that it might better serve as a council robe. My character is an Italian connected with the Holy Mother Church in Rome so if anyone has any ideas for some references or links to them that would be greatly appreciated as I am not having very much luck. Here is a photo of what the cloak looks like now:

I have watched and own all of the Elizabeth films, and many others in that time period. Again any advice on alterations and links to references would be wonderful. Gracie Tutti!

I would suggest getting the ELIZABETH R series in DVD. Though it takes place during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, there are several episodes of men wearing Robes that resemble robes worn by women of the time.
Episode III-SHADOWS IN THE SUN, the French Ambassador is seen wearing a long robe of a member of the French Council
Episode V-THE ENTERPRISE OF ENGLAND. King Philip is seen wearing a long robe.
Italian fashions for men may have varied a bit, but not by much.
Hope this helps.
That is a start. Does anyone have any links to online resources, though? That have this sort of garb item or references?
Hmm...this may be and item to purchase as I am not sure that I am going to have a machine much longer available. Anyone have any recommendations on were to to get one? Online Stores?

I recommend Lady Kathleen of Olmsted, a member of this forum and a professional seamstress. She's made tons of stuff for me and my husband, as well as many others on the forum. Her gallery of projects is on the website in her profile. Look and drool! ;D
...Or for the price of really nice garb, you can get a decent sewing machine. Just something to think about...
What Gem said!
Or look in you local sewing emporioum for a nice pre-loved one and get a machine AND garb for less than the price of decent garb! :o :o
