Title: Chainmail Maintenance?
Post by: sonofslaanesh on August 28, 2009, 11:22:47 PM
After three years of saving my hide, my chainmail has begun to rust and I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas or advice?

The modern way is to rent a mortar mixer( looks like a little cement mixer) and put it in there with a bag of play sand. Sometimes you can buy one cheap when a rental place replaces their equipment. If you buy one you can charge people to clean their chainmaile for them and make your money back.

I am a member of mailleartisans. the best way i find to do it is a bit annoying to some. Get a big plastic bucket (with tight fitting lid) and some play sand. Put the sand and the maille into the bucket then close the lid, duct tape helps, and roll it about. Also works if you have a large trunk for your car leave it in the bucket loose back there for a while. twisty roads help with that one too.
