Title: RIP Patrick Swayze
Post by: Grov on September 14, 2009, 09:43:59 PM
Another great guy gone.  He lived a good 57 years first though.

Just saw a great quote," Somewhere in Heaven, an angel is getting dirty danced."

A horrible disease highlighted by having to watch a strong man fade away...God rest his soul and may all those who fight such a powerful illness find strength and compassion from their friends and family.

I owe him such a great deal.  When I was undergoing my own cancer treatment, I watched To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything,Julie Newmar on a regular - almost daily - basis.  If those three men could be beautiful women, then so could bald, pale, sick me.  Not to mention the silly escapism got me away from my reality for a couple of hours and I'd listen to the soundtrack during treatments.

I lift the proverbial cup and say To Patrick Swayze, Thanks for Everything, Flora A.

Ghost and Dirty Dancing set the world on fire... Red Dawn fired people up so much there were riots in the theatres... Roadhouse taught us all to "be nice" and we won't even talk about THE cultural film of its time... The Outsiders...

RIP Patrick
you'll be missed

It's been too long since I saw Red Dawn.  They should re-release it.

Hmmm... remake.  I'd watch it, but I'm not sure I could let go of my impression of the original long enough to appreciate a newer version.  It would have to be absolutely exceptional...

if there can be one thing I am grateful for in this sadness, it's that we didnt have to watch him completely waste away. He was such a vital man, and seeing the images of him as he got sicker just broke my heart. He was my FIRST heart throb (well, after Prince Eric in Little Mermaid!) and I know there are SEVERAL generations of women who are mourning with us.

Heaven is dancing today.

57 years old... what a tragedy. It's so sad to see another good person lost to this terrible disease. May he rest in peace.

I remember 'way back then' when I was working the original Ren-faire in Agoura, Calif., he and a friend came.
Very exciting...many of us females sort of tagged along behind them making goo-goo eyes....
So sad to have such a talented man die so young....

The best quote of any of his movies wasn't even uttered by him but sure makes you think of him...

I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, I'm scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you

The big roadhouse in the sky has a new bouncer, and its a good feelin' knowin' he's up there to greet us all when we go out honky tonkin' that final time...peace, Patrick Swayze!!

I just sat thru watching a rerun interview of Barbara Walters and Patrick Swayze. You can see the strong bond of love between him and his wife. "It's amazing, the love you have inside you take it with you" his line from Ghost.

You will be missed,   RIP
