Title: Millinery Wire
Post by: Taffy Saltwater on September 23, 2009, 10:32:40 PM
The capelet I'm making calls for millinery wire to support the Elvis collar.  I'd prefer not to purchase a 20 yd roll, tyvm.  Does anyone have any suggestions for substitutions?

you might be able to find smaller amounts of "craft wire" at a craft store?

Taffy!!

Before i found out about Millinery wire, I would use a double strand of 18 gauge jewelry wire, which works pretty well and comes in a  small roll. You will need wire cutters.  I have a pair that stays in my sewing box at all times for all the hats I make.

I wondered about craft wire.  Do the wires need to be wrapped w/floral tape or anything?  Thanks!

I would just wrap a little strip of tape around the exposed edges and whip stitch into place. Though a Millinery wire would work just as well for future needs.

Which reminds me, I need to order a couple of rolls. More hats to make.
