Title: Public camping near the Maryland Festival?
Post by: smerch on October 06, 2009, 07:21:36 PM
Can anyone advise me on the public camping options near by?  We are a couple of rugged types who thrive on bad weather and low temperatures and nothing says 'festival season" like sleeping outside.  Primitive camping is all we need.  No special amenities required.  Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

smerch

The local KOA has primitive tent sites for like $45 a night.  Look here: http://www.koa.com/where/md/20139/

Just to say from my experience pitching a tent there, the sites are a little small and close-quarter with all the trees (like, seriously, I've never seen so few trees that were all placed so inconveniently).  However, I managed to put up my ginormous 10x17 tent with just a little creative layout.

Sites range from $45 (weekdays) to $50 (weekends) for your basic tent site.  As with all KOAs, you've got a picnic table and fire pit on each site.  The office is open till 10 pm for conveniences, firewood, etc.  The main office building has toilets and showers, as well as a satellite building nearby, and I never really had to wait for a line to clear to use them.
