The gate shows are so very funny, don't miss opening gate! I am in awe of the dedication and creatvity of the performance group members. please take time in your day at faire to interact with the performance company members in their path areas! There are returning favorites and new favorites to enjoy.
and i hear thru the rumor mill, Pride of Bedlam pirates are making a cd for sale soon at faire! Huzzah!
Oh I cant wait til I can go to TRF now. Thank you for sharing the pics, they will help make the wait seem not soo bad.
Thanks for sharing mrsmccunn, this will tide me over for a day or two :)
Wonderful pics!! You caught some of our good friends and some people I'd love to become friends with!! hehe
Gotta love Cap'n Biff on a bike ;D
Hey mrsmccunn, since you were the first to post a photo thread, will you change the name of the thread to Official 2009 TRF Photos or something of the caliber so it will get stickied and everyone will post their photo links here for the rest of season?
Thanks!

Meg: You probably would not have needed to take so much care in making sure it stayed dry if you saw how wet I was letting my other lens get. But I do appreciate you having done so. Hopefully the weather is great on AHE, you can borrow it again and not have to worry about such precautions.
Clarendon: Thanks. It was rainy and drizzly most of the time and overcast the rest, so to some ends it was good and others bad. This weekend looks to be sunny so will offer a nice different shooting environment.

Shandi - you look great in your Gene Simmons garb! It would be awesome if you went to All Hallows in it. I didn't know the fellow I saw was in a KISS tribute band, but he's pretty convincing. I believe he was doing a promo for a Houston radio station because he mentioned something about signing people up for a contest to win a weekend in New Orleans.
Var - thanks for helping with my faulty memory. Cassandra was a complete delight and I have updated the pic with her forum name.
Meg - you must be pretty tough if you toted an "L" lens around all day. That's got to be a workout but certainly worth it. :)
Great photos everyone!

And even though I own my 'L' glass, I still protect it as much as I can from the rain/drizzle. Also 2 of the lenses with me weren't 'L'. I used the uber-expensize Zip-Loc bags with holes cut in them and rubber bands. :D The Stalkwells' had some pretty fancy camera condoms. Could protect a 70-200 f/2.8 with a shoe-mount flash attached. Safe shooting is happy shooting. ::) Except for the bit that you can't see what the heck your camera is focusing on in the viewfinder with either of our solutions.
And me with my Target bag ::)
I did just order some of these:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=cart_accessories&A=details&Q=&sku=469774&is=REG
Similar to what the Stalkwells were using I believe. I measured to make sure it would work with my 100-400 lens. Not sure how to get it to work with the shoe-mounted flash though... may need a little pocket knife work.

Belle, trust me, it takes lots of practices and years of smacking people accidentally. The weight isn't bad, it's manuevering the size. I've learned to judge where I can and can't go.
Martin, I'm not real sure when we are going again. There is a possibility of an adult trip this sunday but I haven't gotten any confirmation yet. If we do go, I'll be in my gypsy disguise. I made a new bodice and am dying to try it out! Plus my back needs a break! Then hopefully one more trip later in the season with the wee pirate.
At this time, I am going to try to make it for Saturday and at least 6 or 7 hours on Sunday. Hope to see as many of you as I can!

Valt- WOW! The photos from this weekend are incredible. Makes me wish I was there even more.
But this is my favorite- and if she says anything badly of it, I'll beat her for it.
I need a copy of this to go in my faire-mily photo album.

Good job Valt! You handled the hard light well, I noticed in some shots the angle made for a loop light, in others you were using it as a rim from behind. Nice work!

Thanks Valt, I generally carry my camera around and forget to use it, so I end up with like 10 photos. There were so many photo ops that day, I took about 150 pics, and in spite of what my wife says, only about 15 were of Jenny from Circa Paleo!
As for the contest, I think this green fellow got first;

Yeah, when I take a picture with someone, I don't really notice it, but that is really funny. I am 6 foot 3 with those boots on. So I tend to slouch a little unknowingly when I take a picture with someone.

Hey! I think that's a nice way of saying Element makes ol'Zardoz look worse than he already does! ;D That's OK, in a picture with someone that crazy good looking, this 5 foot 9 old man is happy to show up at all!
Jeannie - Had I had an autumn kilt I most likely would have. But those wings just would not have looked right with the blue bonnet.
Zardoz - I would never suggest any such thing toward my kilted brethren. That picture just made me smile, cuz I'd never considered you short or Element tall, but put the two of you next to each other somehow I was amused by it (o:

Those are some really fun pics, LadyE !
Lady Liz: You two as faeries is hillarious. My daughter loved her snarfel egg and the red heart stone.
My daughter spent the whole day tracking down faeries so that she could give them baubles. Apparently, since she is a faerie, and since the faeries always give her baubles, then baubles are obviously trinkets that must be shared between faeries. That is her reasoning anyway, and who am I to argue with it (o:
Yep, trading trinkets is definitely a fairy thing!! Being silly is about the greatest ever and there's no one sillier than twin fairies jointly being crazy and out there!! We love the little fairies the most, kids as fairies are just the cutest thing ever and they truly believe you're a fairy too!!
Lady Elizabeth... you guys were having too much fun! I enjoyed talking to you when Germany invaded France! :D
You Germans and invading... hehe... that was quite hilarious indeed!! We had lots of fun with ya'll as well!

3rd Weekend - Saturday - Pirate Adventure (http://www.xulphlux.com/photos.php?tpl=gallery&m=d&c=49)
As I posted in the other TRF Photo thread:
Valt, you took some really nice shots!
But, I didn't see any of Cassidy. ???
Isn't there some sort of TRF rule that all photographers should take at least one shot of Cassidy? ;) 8) ;D
Take Care,
David Baldock
If that's not a rule it should be! I'm pretty sure Cassidy was off somewhere being a supermodel last weekend, but here's a shot to tide you over!

Valt amazes me not just for the great photos he takes, but for how quickly he organizes, edits and uploads them. Top notch workflow my friend!
Here's a few more shots I took last weekend.

Thanks, but I think that is actually one of my weak points. I don't do much post processing other than to tweak sharpness sometimes, exposure and levels. I need to learn some better post processing techniques and I think some of the photos will really pop. I have videos to watch, just have to find the time and practice.

Wow, I love the forum. everyone seems so friendly. :) Fantastic pics!!
I was in the steampunk group in the second weekend... gray top hat
I'm also a Jack Sparrow impersonator.... A pretty darn good one if I do say so myself,
I know that a lot of the Ren community have a bit of a stigma with the good captain so I thought I'd just come right out with it.
I really love the pics and will post some of mine from this last weekend tomorrow morning

Let's just blame it on the fact that faeries can sometimes be distracted very easily by pretty shiny things. ^^
Thanks for the kind comments... It's good to be appriciated for what ye do... and how ye look ;D
I think everyone agrees that you are the only true Jack Sparrow of TRF. All others are mere imitations. I'll make it a point to stop and say howdy next weekend. You are quite popular though. Don't think I've ever seen you not engaged with a group of people. Good on ya Capt.
*is blushing now*

It's Jack!!! My dear captain, you are the best Capt. Jack I have seen at TRF! thankfully, the others have mostly disappeared! Welcome to our happy little home!

I remember in past seasons there has been such a crowd that it is difficult to get us all into the shot. Does anyone have a wide angle lens (and maybe a powerful flash if fill flash is needed)?

Not I! Not sure who does... ???
That area is going to be reaaaaaaaaalllllyyyyyyyy hard to fit everyone into for the photo on top of dealing with passerbyers walking through the lane. But, if we have to, we will make it happen. If needed, we'll probably just compact everyone in and have someone stand up on the stairs of the POW for the shot. Maybe we can wrangle the Stalkwells to do it? Or valt or Melkar maybe?? I would volunteer but I messed up the one group photo shots I took last season when we didn't have any other photographers.
A shot from the stairs at POW sounds like a good idea. The sun should be facing the subjects so maybe they wouldn't need a powerful fill flash? If we can get everyone ready, we should be able to get the crowd to stop passing for a few seconds to get a shot. I've PMed the photogs you mentioned and hope at least one of them can make it.
If we're tucked in tight enough against the tables then we wont have to worry about working with the lane traffic. We'll figure it out more when the cats get herded in on Saturday. :)
If anything we can take a couple shots from a tripod and I can make a panoramic with Photoshop. Though I'm sure there's alot of yall that could do it.
And Noonish is a good time to take panoramic shots cause of the sun being high and no shadows.

We'll have to see how deep it makes the shot. We can fill fairly well even in full sunlight if the herd isn't stacked 4 or 5 deep.
That may mean we scout for another (close) location that isn't dappled.
BTW, we will be there ;D
Hope for clouds!!!

Hello Everyone!
So, I am new on the forum here; Ive been looking through all of the pictures when I get moments at work! (oops probably not supposed to admit that!)
I havent gotten a chance to come out there yet this year though it is definitly my plan to do so, but these pictures do wonderful to tide me over until I can make it! I brought my boyfriend last year for the first time and we made some great friends and he just absolutely loved it (Especially the meade of course!) so he has promised me he will come with me again. We originally planned to dress up but since I am buying a home I dont really know that it is in the budget, but either way I know we will have a blast.
Oh yes, back to my original post, I just wanted to say how much I loved all of the pictures, from everyone. :D
Welcome Vixara!!!!

Hey! That's me! :D :D :D Thanks for considering my colorfulness pic worthy, Sir Martin. I wish I had a pic of the looks on faces when I stepped out of the tent that morning wearing this. Priceless! :)
Well you were just gorgeous! I've corrected your name in the original post ... I don't think we were formally introduced, but if we were, please accept my apologies. So many new people to remember and sometimes my brain slips a gear. ;)
Vixara - welcome to the forums ... we are glad you have joined us!

Valt... i've said it before and i'll say it again... you're a man of great talent! The pics are outstanding! I do kinda look like I'm about to beat the snot outta someone, in the Order picture...
Great shots, everyone! Valt, I think you've taken the best shot of my renlet and me that I've seen so far, and I think I'd like to get a copy of it. Do I need to request it from your site?
(edit for grammar OCD)
Thank you guys for the warm welcome! And Valt, wonderful pictures, once again.

Thanks ... still getting used to it but it seems to be working fine. Unfortunately, I had several shots under or overexposed this past weekend because I just got the new external flash in and need a lot more practice with it. Still sorting through the shots so I might be able to find a few more that are worth posting. Your exposures are spot on, Valt ...
excellent work!
Thanks, I do tweaking of exposure in adobe Lightroom when processing the photos. Its a very nice utility if you haven't tried it out i would recommend it.
Valt, great pics on every single one of them.
All you photographers and only ONE bloody picture of me. Geez... LOL.. Seriously, great pics everyone.

Yes, it's a Fennec Fox. His name is Radar, and he's the beloved pet of Josh and Gordon (also known as the Irish Foxes). I think you can find them on here as Daldias.
Too cool. He looks right at home there sitting on your WHOA Hey look at the time...
No...looks like he's sitting (comfortably) on her bewbs.

welcome jonnynero, Huzzah!!!!
Jonny, I may have met you last year! I was working at Castle Kzar when I met ShyFox last year.
Welcome Johnny Nero!
Howdy, I'm a new guy here and this being my first year going to fair, I obviously didn't remember to bring everything...like a camera. Me and my girlfriend we're there and had a good number of people take pictures of us and I was wondering if anybody had any they could post up or email to me. I was the guy in all black, a tophat with my hair hanging down past my shoulders, and a skull face that moved when I talked or ate. If anybody has any pictures I would appreciate it. Thanks!
I'm crappy with taking pictures. But even a blind hog finds a nut now and then. Was able to catch the moment the Other Brothers sliced (very close too!) the carrot from this lady's mouth.

No, he's not who you're thinking of... That couple actually won our costume contest for the third year running.
Those guys were AWESOME!!!
No I wasn't with them but they we're definitely pretty awesome. I was able to talk to them for a bit and they were a lot of fun.

Pix of Roman Weekend....
*wonders if anyone has managed to get any pics to come out of the flaming designs on the jousting field just before fireworks... most notably on Barbarian weekend...*
This will be the third year of "Barbarian dances with flames" and i've yet to see any pics....
i figure that most pictures taken just don't turn out because...well....it's dark.... but then again.... fireworks pictures turn out soooo....
Would it be horribly rude to request that pics be taken this year? If so...ummm. Pretend i didn't. ;)
I'd take them myself... but i'll be...occupied. Ya know. Dancing. With flames.
;D ;D ;D
(provided it doesn't get cancelled for some reason)
p.s. yes... i am addicted to ellipses...

Mali, its not rude to ask for requests, I generally don't mind requests its when people TELL me what to take pictures of that it bugs the hell out of me. I don't know if I will be there for the fireworks myself but if I am I shall try my best to capture what I can...

Actually he doesn't work at faire at all. Just a patron this year :-) His name is Aaron, some know him as Baby Bear. He's a Brigadooner and a good friend. He'll be out again Thanksgiving weekend. Blue Pharaoh, who apprenticed at Scarlet Leather, made his armor. I'll see if I can get him on here...

For the steampunk contingent I couldn't decide if I liked "normal" or sepia-toned better. Probably it's case-by-case. So I just put both variants up.

Hey folks, I realize that I still haven't gotten my photos up from All Hallows Eve. :-[ I'm having issues getting things uploaded to my photobucket account and am not sure if I need to update software or what not, but I haven't had much of a chance to sit down and fix it. I have some of the photos up on facebook, but even those aren't all of my photos.
I am in the stage of considering changing to a different hosting site but when I do, it's going to take awhile because I have three years of photos to move, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it is.
Sorry for the inconvenience, there are some photos that I'd love people to have. :-\
Well... *snap, snap* get on with it, missy! ;) ;D

When I went looking for a hosting site that allows large images to be uploaded, I found that a Flickr Pro account ($25/yr) has a 20 MB per photo, or 500 MB per video limit. Some of the 24-Bit .TIFF files from my Film Scanner are slightly larger than 20 MB, so I have to reduce them a bit when I convert them using minimal-loss .JPG compression. But my Nikon D90 (12.3 MPixel) DSLR produces .JPG files that are up to about 5 or 6 MB, so the full size 4288 x 2848 pixel images can be uploaded to my Flickr account.
Quote from: "u]Flickr - FAQ (http://www.flickr.com/help/limits/#28)[/u]"]
What do I get with a Pro account?
When you upgrade to a Pro account for just US$24.95 a year (or R$45.90 if you're in Brazil ) you get all this:
- Unlimited photo uploads (20MB per photo)
- Unlimited video uploads (90 seconds max, 500MB per video)
- The ability to show HD Video
- Unlimited storage
- Unlimited bandwidth
- Archiving of high-resolution original images
- The ability to replace a photo
- Post any of your photos or videos in up to 60 group pools
- Ad-free browsing and sharing
- View count and referrer statistics

It was a great season and the cast did an exceptional job with their roles and they were having fun at it. Can't ask for more. Major kudos to the TRF cast and performers!
Alas, it had been months since I visited this site and had not before attending the final weekend. I looked in vain for those wearing an R/F pin, but did not see anyone. Me and me 'new' mate had a lovely time and plan on attending next year. To those who helped make the festival work, Thank you.

Thanks Queen Bonnie, 'tis always a pleasure to "image" you and your evil twin. ;) Yes, that must have been a native Texas Leprechaun. :D

Melkar - another fine group of photos my friend. Nicely done!
Valt already had the 100-400mm lens and he has done quite well with it. I believe his new pride and joy is the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens ... one of the sharpest zooms on earth. I purchased a used one a few months back, sent it to Canon to be repaired and recertified, and it cannot be described as anything short of excellent! As good as Valt is, we will probably be seeing even better shots from him in the near future.

I was standing and visiting with
Donal Hinely (http://www.donalhinely.com/) (musician who plays the
Glass Harmonica) when the DoTS Parade started, so I took my pictures of the parade from that location. When I reviewed my Pictures today, I found that you (Valt) were captured in some of them, since you were standing across the street, also shooting the parade. Hey! That's me! :D :D :D Thanks for considering my colorfulness pic worthy, Sir Martin. I wish I had a pic of the looks on faces when I stepped out of the tent that morning wearing this. Priceless! :)
Hey, now there's a familiar face!
Need to make a new thread for the current year.

Good idea, Ravic ... I'll take care of it. We have a new consideration for posting photos that should not be a problem for most folks. The new guideline is meant to keep the pages loading at a reasonable speed for those with slower connections. I'll explain in the 2010 season photo thread.
I am a newbie to this forum although not a newbie to TRF. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for posting their pictures as it was great to see them. A special thank you to Valt, as I found his pictures doing a web search and have looked at them numerous time for costume ideas as well as to revisit our own time spent at TRF. For 2010, I look forward to sharing my own with everyone.
Welcome to the R/F forums, D1. We look forward to seeing your photos of the upcoming season.
