Title: Chemise + partlet + corset = mess. ??
Post by: gem on October 12, 2009, 07:23:32 PM
Today was my first time wearing all the proper H/A layers, and I found it really difficult to arrange everything neatly.  Things kept bunching up above the neckline of the corset, even though Milord and I tried to keep tugging everything down as he laced me up.

Is this just me?  Does anyone have any tips?

(Short of just making a high-necked smock, which I am already sore tempted to do!  I don't need you gentles enabling me.  :P)

I wear my partlet over my corset but then my corset isn't pretty enough to wear as outer wear. lol
To eliminate some of the fabric bunching up under the corset you could wear the high necked shirt or try a square neck smock instead of the fuller chemise wit the partlet.

I have a partlet that keeps coming out from beneath my bodice (I wear it over my corset too) at the shoulders.

A friend of mine suggested that I put ties on the partlet and tie it to the rings at the bodice armscry where my sleeves lace in.

I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet, but it sounds like a good idea.

Partlet bunching at the neckline? Not sure exactly what the issue might be. What kind of ties on the bottom of the partlet do you have? Are they too loose?

Pictures might help...

are you lacing upwards or downwards hypothetically in my mind, if your lacing bottom to top that would make fabric ride up, so if you switched it wouldn't it do the opposite? Maybe? or what about pulling it down lower than you would wear it so that when it rides up it's where it's supposed to be?

If all else fails, pinning it to the smock or corset could work as well.

what TYPE of chemise is it? as I recall, the chemises worn when sheer partlets were in vogue were not the voluminous things we think of.

also, i wear chemise, corset, partlet, dress... is your corset your only bodice or is it a layer?

what are the layers made of? My partlet is silk organza, so it's stiff, and my chemises are either linen or washed silk, so they dont tend to slide...

Thanks, everyone!

Today I actually tied the partlet under my bust, which helped *enormously.*  Also made the ELM a little easier, too. (Bonus!)  I think part of the issue is the way the neckline is gathered into the collar of the partlet, it puffs a little bit at the back of the neck anyway.

I still find myself really, really wanting to make a high-necked smock.  From linen this time, with box-pleated cuffs and hand blackwork.
