Thanks for the tutorial - the cellophane wings look so much like actual insect wings (as she smacks a gnat).

You've come to the rescue!  I was in search of a good, easy to follow tutorial for wings....  and I didn't really want to do the stocking cut and slipped over the hanger route.  I'm book marking that!

Thank you for sharing.

That's EXACTLY why i did it- because there is all of 1 other tutorial out there, and it's not for this type of wing (open frame vs closed)

Glad you like the site! let me know if anything is unclear, etc.

Do you think the cellophane would work for larger wings??
Like I want to make wings that are about 3ft tall by 2ft wide each wing.

You might find bigger wings easier to do this way:

I think Trillium has a pair about that large- you'd want to get good wire (home depot?) and probably work in sections. Twig's wings are probably that large, but it's not one continuous panel... regardless, you'd want to have a solid interior structure... and imagine how difficult it would be to move in those...

Lovely wings and a splendid tutorial.  Nice work!  :)

I meant to say this earlier, but got interrupted by an emergency jacket!

Yes, cellophane works fine for larger wings!  However, as I have said in other threads, seriously think about the size of your wings and how much your movement will be obstructed.  It is more difficult to get into shops, privies (especially portables), manuevering crowds, even sitting down.
