Title: How do you wake up and get going in the morning?
Post by: Valiss on October 15, 2009, 11:09:28 AM
Some people get their alarm clocks to blast rock music. Some uses coffee or a shower to wake them up. Some people just let thier dog drag them out of bed. But how do you wake up get going in the morning?

coffee doesnt like me... and I hate mornings.

Honestly, I let the snooze go for about an hour- by the 6 or 7th time I hit it, I'm up.

That, or i get walked on by a black cat made of dark matter who wants her breakfast....

I am kinda a freak. My alarm has only woken me up once in 5 years, most of the time i am up anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour before it goes off and it dosn't matter what time i go to bed either. I can be up and out the door in 15 minutes.

Alarm clock blaring with AM Radio news. Hit snooze 3 to 6 times and a nice hot shower while hubby makes some really really strong coffee. Loooooove coffee!

I have to wash my face first thing, then have a smoke while I catch up on email and message board posts. Since I don't have to get up for work until around 9:30, there are usually at least a few emails and posts to look through.

Alarm clock blaring a REALLY annoying morning radio show. It angers me enough that I have to get up out of bed to cross the room and turn it off.

My alarm is set for 5:15, but I usually wake up between 5-10 minutes earlier before it goes off.  Steve works nights and gets in late, and I hate to have the alarm disturb his sleep that early in the morning, so I guess I just got used to waking up before it goes off.  It is very rare that I sleep till when it rings.  Jump out of bed into the shower, breakfast, check emails, assemble lunch, get dressed then go to work.  I can't be up and out in 15 minutes, though, takes about an hour to get everything done.  Of course, this includes morning time to peruse the forum.

Alarm at 5am.  Slimfast for fuel.  Mr. Dew for caffeine and sugar.  At least for the last 4 weeks that's been my routine.  Now I might wake up whenever, have lunch or dinner, whichever is appropriate, then go about my day.  ;D

usually my alarm goes off and i snooze it like 5 times before falling off the top bunk (ugh dorm beds!) and stumbling across the room to pop open a can of some form of soda and shove about 3 rice krispie treats in my mouth then stumble out the door to class...I hate mornings...

6 month old, and 2 year old in the room. Don't think I've slept till dawn in at least a few weeks. Well, that's not entirely true. My wife lets me sleep in usually on one of her days off. Then its a long sit in the cushy recliner while they both eat, then breakfast for me. If I can work up the energy, and the time, I fire up the espresso machine and caffeinate myself. If all else fails, my daughter goes and plays with gramma, and I share the first nap of the day with the little one. But soon, this all comes to an end, as my work schedule goes from starting at 12:30 to starting at 6:30. At least I'm used to being up.....

drinking obscene amounts of diet dr. pepper before going to bed, i have found, ensures that an alarm clock blaring is immediately met by a bladder screaming for mercy. voila, i am UP!!

Grudgingly, every morning. I am so not a morning person! But when I do drag my arse out of bed, I have to have a shower or I don't feel awake all day. No showering the night before for me!! Coffee helps too, but a shower is a must.

I have a 12 lb grey long hair that goes off every morning at 4:55 exactly...no kidding.  I do not know how that cat can tell time but at 4:55 he's walking all over me.  Good thing I need to be up at that hour or he'd be the dog's dinner!  Sad thing is he is not aware of weekends but does seem to re-set himself for daylight savings...

for some reason, morning showers slow me down and make me want to nap. i think it is all the hot water hitting my tired old worn out bod!

wyckdbliss, the  little one is easy, give him his then a sit in the bumbo or bouncer, and he's good. The other, well, I spend more meals than not with her in my lap. Today she absolutley refused to eat her own breakfast, and when I finished mine, told me that it was hers, and let loose a mini tantrum. Nothing is quite like being berated by a toddler who wants to drink the milk out of you cereal bowl, but won't touch their own (bowl or cup)... *sigh*

My wake-up is Facebook, Hotmail, R/F.com. Once I'm caught up on the news a bit of breakfast and I'm good to go.

This thread reminded me of "Clocky"  (http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/lights/91f2/)the alarm clock that jumps off the nightstand and roams around your room until you shut it off.

Low volume easy listening on the radio alarm so I'm not in a lousy mood all day, then wake up the renlet for school.  Choose clothes, get her started getting dressed, then check homework, email and R/F before heading off for the school run...

Sometimes I manage to sleep until the alarm goes off, but most of the time, I'm awake a half-hour or so before.  Drag myself into the shower, shuffle through, shuffle to the kitchen where my coffee is already ready for me (I <3 my roomie for buying me a programmable coffee maker for my birthday!), get coffee and some form of breakfast, shuffle back to my room and catch up on facebook and a few other places, realize I have to leave in 20 minutes, dash on the makeup, grab some lunch, and out the door!

Of course, that's going to change when I no longer have a ride to work and have to start taking the bus.  >.<

This is what usually I do in order, unless I'm home sick or didn't hear the alarm:

1) Set alarm across the room so I have to get up to turn it off. If it is a work day, I set it 2 hours before I have to go. I hate rushing in the morning.
2) Shower.
3) Get dressed.
4) Eat breakfast.
5) Get on the computer to check e-mails, read webcomics, visit usual forum and chat sites, and read the news.
6) Watch some tv or bum around on the internet if I still have time.
7) Go to work. If I'm not working, start daily chores and follow through with whatever needs to be done for the rest of the day.

Got to have my caffeine though.

Hoowil...I completely understand...have a nephew that use to do the exact same thing...my son just wants to put his hands in the cereal to fish one or two out at a time...even though he has his own...if it is anything else he has to have mine as well...nothing like watching a one year old trying to gnaw on bacon with 6 teeth...lol

Nowadays I set my cell phone alarm for about 6, if I'm dozy I'll have the 2nd alarm for about 15 miuntes later. When at the apartment -Start the coffee pot, turn on the tv for background w/ Mike&Mike in the Morning (ESPN), log onto work laptop and start the day. (Telecommuting IS awesome!)

If I'm at Lady Mikayla's castle - I either awake to a series of cell phone alarms OR one of her pups is crying to go out for relief. We usher the doggies out to do their business, bring 'em in, serve breakfast to them an' th' cats, load their water bowls, make decaf fer the lady and on weekdays drive to my apartment an' run th' above routine.

I do miss my former wakeups, which included turning on New Morning (used to be a VERY positive/spiritually uplifting show), starting the coffee pot, loading the water pipe and having a little "wake n' bake" t' start the day... I look forward to doing that again some day.  8)

0500- alarm goes off. Mutter, grumble, head for bathroom. Stagger to the kitchen for a Slimfast, then shuffle to the computer for a 15-minute blank-staring contest with the monitor. Cede yet another victory to the PC. Tiptoe past patio door to avoid alerting the puppy and starting a frenzied scrabbling at the glass for his breakfast (because he hasn't eaten since bedtime last night and he's going to starve, starve I tell ya!), flip on bathroom light, squint, begin morning toilette. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I set my alarm at least a half hr before I actually need to wake up and I hit the snooze lots and lots until I'm basically awake...  Then get ready as quickly as possible.  Go to work and just wait to wake up...  no biggie since usually nothing big goes on in the morning!

For me, it depends on whether I'm showering in the morning or not. If I'm not, then I get up an hour before my first class (right when my cellphone alarm goes off - though I do set two other alarm clocks just in case, since I'm paranoid). I jump out of bed, put my contacts in, use the facilities/wash my face, then put my makeup on and fix my hair, get dressed, and eat breakfast while checking my email and/or facebook. Then I run out the door to class. If I'm showering, then I wake up 45 mins earlier, and that's the first thing I do after the contacts, and then I straighten my hair before the makeup.

Alarms anywhere from 4:30 to 6:30 depending on the day and then it is a toss up between who is more awake to go and make the TEA!  Gotta have tea!  Then I usually get to sip in bed for about 15 minutes.  Depending on the craziness of the day, I am up and making lunches and getting the guys out the door then I am usually putting something on over the jammies (who cares what you are wearing under a snow suit!) to walk the dog.  If I am opening the restaurant then it is a quick run to get dressed and if I have the day at home, it is sitting at the computer checking the usual sites and drinking tea and eating my oatmeal.

Plaxnty Burke played by Sarah Mullen.  No, I've not kidnapped her, though the thought is tempting :)  I have a clock radio that will play MP3s on a USB thumb drive.  I have Luna's Fancy ripped to that thumb drive.

Alarm clock, hit snooze.  Move dog, move other dog, move first dog again.  Small dog dances on bladder, smaller dog licks face and barks.  Alarm clock, turn off, get up to pee.  Return to bed, smaller dog rubbing herself all over my space, small dog barking and demanding to be played with.  Shower, deodorize, dress, leave.

I'm been eating some almonds with breakfast recently. Almonds are a great source of vitamin E and they also have good amounts of magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, fibre and are a good source of healthy monounsaturated fat.  Alton Brown mentioned that they are the only nut in the top '10 super foods' list. So for breakfast I'll have some almonds, fruit and sometimes cheese.

It doesn't matter if the alarm is on or not at presisely 6AM my 25 pound Boston Terrier has to go outside, even if it is just to sniff the roses.  If I do not move after first bounce he will sit himself right by my head and start a very high pitched tinny whine.  If that still doesn't work he will do a short yap, and then an even louder high pitched anoying whine.  Then repeat each time getting louder and adding bed boucing shoves to the bed.  I will then crawl out of bed, let him out, got take care of my buisness, let him back in from doing his buisness.  If it is a weekend, back to bed for another 2-3 hours.  Weekday, grab clothes I laid out the night before, and head to shower.  When out , move the DH's to the bathroom.  Then head to the kitchen to prep lunches, & breakfast to go.  Somewhere in there feed the dog, feed the ferrets, and load/unload the dishwasher.  Hopefully by the DH is awake and moving, if not cheery to be so. The dog goes in his crate for the day. We grab stuff from the 'launch pad', and away we go.

Daylight Savings Time or nay, 7 days a week it's usually around 5:30AM I get a small gray paw belonging to my cat Smudge, on my cheek,/nose/ eye accompanied by a meow which translates to "Oh...you're awake? Well....while you're up you might as well feed me, my brother and the other one."

Taking dogs out for the first time in the morning wakes me up most of the way and coffee does the rest.
Usually up between 5 and 6 am.
