Post by: Damien Ryan on October 30, 2009, 08:10:24 PM
Here is my problem, i am being henry VIII for halloween, and i have my outfit and jewels but have not been able to find an affordable crown yet.  Any1 have any suggestions on something i can make, or use as a kingly head piece by tomorrow?

Go to Burger King, get one of their paper crowns.  Spray paint it gold.  When dry, glue on some brightly colored jewels.  You can buy these at Hobby Lobby or Michael's.  They are flat on one side so when you glue it, it will stick.

Now mind you, it won't look like the Crown Jewels, but it's inexpensive and quick.  And if it's just for a costume, as opposed to faire for example, it works.

Well, Henry VIII is most often seen wearing a hat (http://images.google.com/images?start=0&q=henry+viii&btnG=Search+images&hl=en&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS346US345&um=1&sa=2), not a crown, and you can make a recognizable hat in a couple of hours.  Try the instructions at Red Dawn (http://www.reddawn.net/costume/cap.htm), and then embellish like crazy (http://www.reddawn.net/costume/hats.htm).

Have fun!!

Try Wally World or Target.  I've seen Cotume Crowns there for weeks.  However, Gem is correct, Henry VIII would wear either a flat cap or a hat like this: http://www.talltoad.net/henry8.html.  You can pick up a cheap hat in the ladies accessories secotion o Target or Wally World get a small section of feather boa, some jewels and a glue gun.  If you have Party City they have a couple of crowns under $20.00.  http://www.partycity.com/category/costumes+%26+accessories/hats.do?sortby=bestSellers&page=all
Good luck!!

Too late for Hallowe'en, but make a circle 5/4ths the size of your head (circumfrence, divide by 4, multiply by 5), cut out 1/5th, stitch it closed. VOILA!  Le Chapeau d'Henry!
