For those who knew me, you know that i am quite the animal lover. I own 3 dogs,( a beagle puppy, a yellow lab , and a golden retriever) 3 cats, and 2 horses, ( a grey Thoroughbred gelding, and a bay Arabian mare )
Anyway, last night when i was getting ready for bed, the youngest of my three dogs kept barking and barking. But i did not think much of it, cause my husband had just been outside , and said there were several deer in the yard. So i figured she was barking at the deer.
This morning when we went out to feed the horses it was like a scene out of a Halloween movie. My gelding was dripping in blood. The skin on the one side of his face was ripped off. You could literally see the bone and muscles and he had a huge gapping hole in his forehead. How he was still alive, and standing, is amiracle in itself. I was literally sick to my stomach at the sight.
Thankfully my other horse was okay.
My husband and i looked all around, but could not see any animal tracks. But there was blood on the ground and blood on the walls of the geldings stall.
We are very careful to keep anything sharp out of the reach of the horses. We could find nothing in the barn that would rip a horses face like that.
We don't know if he was attack by something or what ? if it was an animal it had to be something big, cause my gelding stands at over 17 and a half hands tall. he is abig boy.
I also question if it was some vicious prank by kids, but we live on a quiet street a nd have never had any problems before.
The vet came out and did the best she could stitching the horse back up, but there are some places were the bone and muscle are exposed. She gave him a shot to ward off infection, but still she told us to keep a close eye on him. He was shivering from the lost of blood. We had to croos tie him, to keep him from rubbing his face, and we are suppose to hand fed and water him the next several days, and the vet will be back out in a few days to check on him.
So for now it is just a waiting game, and praying that he heals okay, and no infection sits in.
it just makes me sick. he is a beautiful animal. I pray it was an animal that got him, and not kids cause why would anyone do something like that. if it was kids i'll hang them by their neck. >:( >:(
For now i just pray that he heals okay. he is not a young horse. He is 21, but you would not know it by looking at him. He is still fiesty and likes to chase my mare around. I wonder if he was protecting my mare, when he got attack.
Anyway, please keep my poor horsey in your prayers. :'( Thanks ! Never a dull momment lately in my life ! ::)
I'm praying...Horse's can be very tough..keep loving him and be there and he will pull through this.
My mare had ear mites and I went to put the ear meds in her she went up and caught the top of the tin on the barn and gouged her face to the bone I could see her teeth at the back of her jaw from eye to nose and she healed up well it was a mess and I had to do hydro therapy on it but she healed with a small scar. Horse's are stronger then we think....
Give him a little molasse's on his feed to keep him interested it worked for her.
keep us posted.
BTW
I'm owned by 8 dogs and 2 horses' :)
I am keeping you and your horse in my thoughts...sending lots of positive healing energies his and your way honey. *HUGS*
Thanks everyone. :) So far Sir Tempus Pendragon ( that is the gelding's name ) is being a good patient. He is still pretty doped up from the pain meds the vet gave him. He looks like a drunken sailor. So funny to see this big tall horse trying to stand up straight. Poor thing. :(
My other horse, Lady Jadestar ( the Arabian mare ) can't figure out what is up with her buddy.
My husband was going to the feed store tonight to get some special feed and molasses.
I am in better spirits then i was earlier, just wish i knew how it happen to him. I have been around horses all my life, and know horses can get banged up, and they can rub and scratch themselves on stuff in their stalls, but We checked the whole inside of his stall and other then blood stains all over could find nothing that would cause that bad of wounds. So it is a mystery .
I know horses are pretty strong creatures, but there is alot of skin and muscle expose. plus he is not a young horse, even though he would have you think otherwise.
Amy, I'm so sorry to hear about your gelding. Big hugs and prayers to both of you. I truly hope that people were not the cause of this injury.
I know what you're going through. My gelding had a mysterious wound years ago. The place where he was boarded at was very picky about safety and sharp things were never near the horses stalls, paddocks, or pastures. Anyway, I arrived at the barn for a ride one morning and found a couple of small holes in his side. Never found out what caused them but a few weeks later he started to run a very high fever and had stopped eating and drinking. Of course this had to happen when it was hot and humid out. The vet came out a few times to tube him with water so that he didn't dehydrate. I took a few days off of work to stay with him and take care of him. The antibiotic he was on was so strong that the vet was concerned that he would come down with diarrhea. Because of this the farm owner would give him his medicine in the morning and I would give him 8 oz. of vanilla yogurt to counteract any diarrhea that could have resulted from the meds.
I am so sorry to hear this happened to your horse. I pray he recovers quickly and you find out the cause.
As a fellow animal nut (and horse owner), I will definitely keep him in my prayers. Best of luck for a good recovery.
Sending healing thoughts and prayers to your horse, and family!
Due to the lack of tracks, I have to ask a question: could it have been a large bird of prey?
Lots of good luck for Sir Tempus Pendragon and yourself.
Not to disparage renren but I've been working with birds of prey for 12 years and never heard of any raptors being foolish enough to attack a horse. The largest prey that a Steppes Eagle can take is a wolf but the Steppes Eagle is in Mongolia.
Crazy
So far Tempus is being a good patient, and has not reopen his wounds. Knock on wood. We have him tied up so he can barely move around in his stall. He was not to happy , about that last night and kept kicking at his stall. My husband finally went out around midnight, and chatted with him, and he settled down.
We have to hand fed him and water him, which is a pain in the neck, especially on the cold mornings, cause it takes forever for a horse to eat, but the vet does not want him to be untied at all, cause knowing Tempus, who loves to roll in the hay, he would open his wounds right up.
We continue to give him antibiotics and hot compress treatments that the vet ordered in order to ward off infection.
As for what caused all of this it is still a mystery. Tempus was actually closed in his stall, with the top part of his stall door open, so he could look outside. ( The stalls open to the outside for emergency purposes.)
So anything that went after him had to be tall enough to reach his face or big enough to leap at him or fly at him.
We now doubt that it was kids cause they would have had to climb over the corrals and gates to get him, and we would have heard the gates rattle , and it it is abig drop from the top of the corrals to the ground.
It could have been an animal. Cause an animal could easily squeeze thru the bottom of the corral. Then again i guess a human could too if they wanted too.
There was a pack of wild dogs wandering around for awhile, but no one had seen them in months.
We do get coyotes often, but they have never botherd the horses before.
We had a bobcat for a while living back in the woods, but i don't think it would go after the horses.
When i told my dad, he thought we should call the animal warden and report it, but we are not sure if it was a wild animal.
I question wheter it was a bird of prey cause we have a family of hawks in our yard, but i have never heard of Hawks , or birds of prey going after a horse.and like a said Tempus is a good size horse.he is very tall, and and has a large head. Whatever went after him had to be something big, or something capable of leaping at him.
I did find a nest of baby snapping turtles outside the barn a few weeks ago, but i don't think a snapping turtle could go after a horse.
I question wheter he got something on his face, or had an allergic reaction to something in his feed, but we feed both horses the same feed, and i have heard of horses rubbing themselves raw, but not bad enough to expose bones and muscles. I mean, not to gross anyone out here, but the whole one side of his face was just about gone. it was just all bone , his eye and dangling muscle. Thank goodness he did not lose his eyesight. He had exposed skin and bone and muscle underneath both ears , above both eyes, down one whole side of his face, down his nose, ahuge gash in his forehead, and the one whole side of his face practically ripped off.
With all the damage to his face, and all the blood in the stall, and on the ground outside, something deffinitely went after him, it is just a matter of who or what, and we may never know. What matters is that it does not come back again, and that Tempus heals okay.
Thanks for the prayers and well wishes everyone.I felt awkward asking for prayers for a horse, but he is part of the family. He is our oldest son, as my husband and I call him. Matter of fact if it had not been for Tempus my husband and i would not have met.
Sending prayers and healing thoughts for your horse may he get better.
Thanks Lady Serena for your ren mail you sent me on mountain lions.
Don't worry, you did not scare me hon. I was already pretty convinced in my mind that it had to be a wild cat or a wild dog, cause Tempus stands at 17 and a half hands tall. So for something to get at his face while he was inclosed in his stall,it had to have the capability like a large cat or dog to leap at him.
We have Coy dogs ( part coyote-part dog ) that have been spotted in the area over the summer and i wonder if they are back around. I know this is the time of year that adult coyotes teach their young to hunt. I plan on calling animal control in the morning. In the mean time the stall doors are being totally closed at night, my dogs are only allowed out in their play yard, and only with a human with them,my cats are in door cats so don't have to woory there, and my young son has not been allowed out near the barn or woods at all.
I tell you if it is not something going on with the humans in the family, it is something going on with the pets. never a dull momment ! But that's life !You never know what is going to happen next.
"Thanks for the prayers and well wishes everyone.I felt awkward asking for prayers for a horse, but he is part of the family. He is our oldest son, as my husband and I call him."
I just wanted to say that we pray for animals anytime they need it. I called my pastor when my dog was so ill, last summer and requested him to pray for her. She has recovered.
We even have a plaque hanging in the sanctuary at our church, about praying for the animals. My pastor frequently includes the "four-leggeds" in his prayers during the church service. It was one of the deciding factors for me to join there.
Amy, how is he doing? Still sending lots of prayers for all of you.
Tempus is hanging in there. He was not eating or drinking much at first, but now he is. His wounds still look terrible, and you can tell it hurts him. he does not like being tied up all the time. We are suppose to call the vet tomorrow to let her know how Tempus is doing.
We now think we know what went after him. One of my sister's works for an insurance company, and her job was to handle claims for large horse farms and diary farms. When I told her what happen to Tempus, and describe his wounds and where on his body he got attack, she said it sounded like the claims she had been handling at work. She said they had several recent claims made by horseowners about their horses being violently attacked by an animal called a " Fisher ."
Fisher's like areas where there are water and brush. We have a large pond in our yard, and a creek that runs along side of it. We live on 8 acres. 3 of the acres is wooded and filled with deer and other small wild life. Just what a Fisher needs.
Fisher's look like a wolverine . They have sharp claws and teeth. They are capable of climbing and jumping and leaping quite high. They attack and kill their prey by going after their prey's faces and ripping them apart until they bledd to death.
Anyway, i went on the internet and printed out some pictures of a Fisher.I then showed the pictures to my husband who said to me,"Holy cow Amy, i saw this animal in our yard last week when i came home form work. It looked just like the animal in the picture you are showing me."
So we called the local animal warden and they told us to call the Department of Enviromental Control. we called them and they told us there was nothing they could do about it. Give me a break ! you think they would be concern about an animal going around attacking livestock.
So i took the picture i had printed out and went a round my neighborhood warning all my neighbors that there was a Fisher around. It turns out one of my neighbors had to take their dog to the vet cause it had gotten badly attacked by an animal during the night.
So we talked to one of our neighbors who is a hunter and a trapper and he was going to talk to some of his buddies who also hunt and trap and see wheter they can catch the darn thing in a trap, or shoot it and kill it.
So that is the latest. In the meantime, the horses are completely closed in, in their barn. My dogs only go out during the day, and on their leashes, and my son is only allowed outside with me or his father cause Fisher's can go after and kill a small adult.
So praying that we catch the darn thing soon. Also praying that the darn thing did not have rabies, cause that is all I nedd for my horse to get, cause both Tempus and my other horse are due for their rabies shots next month.
The vet was actually going to vaccinate them for rabies when she comes to check tempus again, atleast that was the plan.
So just praying that we catch the darn Fisher, that Tempus starts to heal, and that his vision remains okay, and that he does not come down with rabies, although he probably would be showing signs by now if he had.
So that is the latest chapter in the saga of my never dull life ! ::) :P :)
Amy I just caught this thread late but I am so sorry that that happened to your horse the way it did. I am sending out prayers and positive thoughts to you and your horse for a quick and speedy recovery soon.
God Bless you as always my dear.
Any updates for us on either how Tempus is doing or the capture of the vicious varmint that attacked him?
No capture of the varmint yet, although something was outside the night before last, cause we found tracks, and animal fur.
Wish we could catch the varmint, so that i can eventually let my horses out again to run when Tempus heals, and also so i not have to worry when i take my dogs out.
As for Tempus, the wounds on the sides of his face seem to be healing but the big huge wound on his forehead is being stubborn. It looks like he may have rubbed it open.
He continues to eat, and is drinking more which is a good sign. The vet is suppsoe to come on Saturday to check his stitches, and to update both horses on their vaccines.
So, so far the prayers for tempus are doing their trick ! :)
Now we just need to catch the darn varmint. :P :)
Good to hear he's doing better. ;D Have your hunter neighbors set any traps for it or something?
Prayers for his healing continue!
It could take months for a large wound to completely heal. Be patient and persistant.

Not yet ! I know there was something about that there were only certain times of the year when you could legally trap varmint like creatures..but then again I would think we would be in our legal rights to trap an animal who was attacking our horses.
We let my mare out for abit to run yesterday, with my husband and i both standing guard. She was happy to get out and kick up her heels. She could not understand why her big brother could not come out, but we nedd his wounds to heal first.
I think the one on his forehead is going to take a while to heal. It is funny the way the skin was torn on his forehead. It was pulled upward instead of downward. Almost like something reached down from above Tempu's head and grabbed him. We know that Fisher's can climb, so we are wondering if the darn thing climbed onto the roof of the barn and reached down and attacked Tempus.
Latest update :
The Good news and the bad news:
________________
We think the varmint may have wandered on away from here. There have bben several herds of deer grazing , and sleeping in our back yard the last ffew nights, and we don't tink they would be sleeping out in the open if there was a predator on the prowl.
Have not seen my neighbor around who hunts or traps to talk him.
We still continue to keep the horses closed in the barn at night.
And now the bad news :
The vet was out this weekend to give the horses their yearly vaccines. While she was here she checked Tempus's wounds. When she went to remove the bandages, we found to our dismay that Tempus was not healing as wella nd quickly as he should be. The skin and tissue around a few of the wounds was dead and dying and infection had settled in.
And then the two big major deep wounds on his forehead and face were full of foul smelling pus.
So despite the antibiotics, and warm compresses and other daily treatments infection has settled in. So the vet applied some type of antibitotic to each of the wounds and then rebandaged all the wounds back up, and gave us some stronger antibiotics to give Tempus, and she will check gain in afew days.
So we shall see how things go.
Tempus is being a good patient, despite evrything going on. I know he does not like being tyed up all the time, but he does like the extra treats and the warm hot compresses he gets, not to mention the extra attention.
Sending him healing thoughts, Amy.
Oh No! Poor baby!
I hope all turns out well.
Hugs to you Amy and to your huge baby!!!!!
I will continue to keep Tempus in my thoughts and prayers Amy.
OMG, what a mystery as to what could have inflicted this damage to your horse. In my experience a fisher seems very unlikely, a wolverine perhaps, a fishers no. Unless there are cougars in the area, and at 17 1/2 hands tall I would bet these damages were produced by a person or persons.
Regardless, Thoughts & Prayers sent and I sincerely hope the culprit or culprits are soon discovered and Tempus recovers from his wounds.
Positive energy, prayers and good thoughts coming your way for Tempus, and for you to keep up the energy to nurse him.
Keep us posted on his progress.
I'm hope Tempus is doing better. He is still in my prayers as always you are.
Anyway, I was remembering whenever one of our cats had a wound we always used tea bags as compresses for the wound. One of our vets recommended it instead of oinment and such. She said clean it up (the wound), make yourself a cup of tea, and while holding the cat and enjoying the tea put the tea bag on the wound. She said to do that a couple times a day. The tannic acid in the tea leaves was very good for healing wounds without infection.
Have not seen any varmits or criiteers around lately in the yard, other then deer, and rabbits. So hopefully the varmit or critter that attacked tempus has taken a hike.
It could have been done by humans, but i doubt it, caus e we live in very quiet neighborhhood.
So it is stilla mystery as to who, or what attacked Tempus, and i do think we may never know for sure.
As for Tempus, the vet was out on saturday. His smaller wound s are starting to heal, but the great big wounds aare still gooshy and mushy. I still can't belive the damage done to this horse's face.
There was till some pus in a few of the wounds, but despite that fact, the vet decided to take tempus off of the antibiotics and see how he does off of them.
Tempus is getting very agitated being tied up his stall. My husband untied him yesterday and handwalked him for afew minutes.
But until his wounds heal, we can't chance him rubbing his face and reopening them.
So the small wounds are starting to heal, now we just have to keep our fingers crosedd that the big, nasty and worse wounds start to heal. the vet cut off alot of dead skin on Tempus's face on saturday. Poor baby ! :(
Tho' I love horses, I am certainly not a "horsey" person so you may already know about this product...but I thought it sounded interesting...
http://equinewoundsalve.com/
Sending lots of healing energy to Tempus!
Amy just knowing the fact that Tempus is starting to make progress is a big chip off mine, yours, and everyone elses shoulder that has been pulling for you through this.
He is still in my thoughts and prayers at this very moment.
Hugs and love to you as always my dear.
Sounds like there is progress. Big wounds take big time (to heal). Sending more positive energy your way for continued healing. Sounds as if the wounds are not in the way of the halter? Anyway, keep up the handwalking. Tempus has to keep up his spirits to continue to heal. It has got to be tough to be tied up all the time. Even if they are used to being in a stall, it must be hard for him.
Persevere. Keep us posted.
Thanks everyone. yes, it is nice to see some progress being made. now we just have to wait for the major wounds to start healing over, which will take time.
Poor tempus, he wants so much to get out and run and roll. My luck, and knowing the winters we get here, by the time he ehals and is ready to go out again, we probably have 2 feet of snow on the ground !
Betty.. he does not have a nylon halter on right now, just a simple slip knot, rope tied halter .
Capt Morgan... I am using something similar to that wound salve. You spary it on and makes a protective barrier.
Well, last week, it looked like we were finally making some progress in the healing process. Along with the small gashes, the huge deep, wounds and gashes were starting to try heal.
But then on Thanksgiving :
Tempus was getting agitated from being tied up, so he was refusing to eat and drink. He always has been a very stubborn horse. Anyway my husband was concern about Tempus not eating or drinking, so my husband untied Tempus.
Tempus was behaving and being a good boy. He ate and drank. My husband decided since Tempus was behaving to give him atreat and leave him untied for abit.
Well, we got busy with Thanksgiving dinner, and i did not know that Tempus was left untied, and my husband just plainly forgot with evrything else going on.
Well, the darn horse went and rubbed his face and head and opened the major, big nasty wounds back up.
So he is back to being tied up, and now it is going to take even longer to heal. He has a big bump on his forehead. He does not like being tied up at all. he has been kicking his stall door like crazy, but i can't keep having him open his wounds up. Not unless he wants to pay for the vet bills ! :P :)
Well Sir Tempus is being a trouble maker. After he rubbed his stitches open on Thanksgiving, we went back to having him tied up, which he hated.
But it was working. Things looked like they were finally going to strat healing over. But then what does that darn horse do. He managed to figure out how to pull hard enough to break the cross tie ropes( and thes were strong , sturdy ropes too ) and free himself and rub open his stitches again. Ugh !!! That horse ! >:( :P So back to square one again !
Horses..you got to love them to have them...cause they can drive you crazy at times. :)
An idea......what about putting one of those cone things around his neck, until he heals? ??? {Or maybe find something to pad the fence where he likes to rub..maybe sheep skin padding?}
Amy, i'm sure you probably know this already but if you put some rubber such as bicycle inner tubes around the posts of the stall walls and attach the crossties to them he should only be able to stretch until his but touches the wall.
Not sure if a neck cradle would keep him from rubbing his face as it only keeps his neck from bending from side to side and from being able to flex his neck so that he can touch his chest.
I hope he's doing better.
Oh, poor horse! I'll be praying for him.
Tempus's one side of his face is doing better, but the other side is still a nasty, mushy mess. It is still all bone and dead tissue. The vet came out last week, and was all concern about one of the wounds over his one eye. She was afraid he might have lost his vision in the one eye, but knock on wood it was not the case. His two major gashes on his forehead when she removed the bandages were mushy and when she removed some dead tissue there was alot of pus , so he is back on atibiotics and hot compress treatments.
I feel so sorry for him, cause he is starting to get tired of being tied up.
Thank goodness I either have neighbors who are sound sleepers, or who are very patient and understanding, cause Tempus is outside in the barn every night kicking and banging at his stall door. The vet says he needs to be tied up still atleast thru the end of January.
Healing energies continuing for Tempus!
Not sure if this has already been suggested ... would a mild sedative help? Like valium for horses? Does such a thing exist?
Thanks Betty. He was on mild sedatives for the first week he was injured, but then the vet took him off of them, because he was getting so tipsy, and he is a very tall horse, and she did not want him falling and breaking a leg. Although last night we was ready to give Tempus a sedative. We were out cleaning stalls and we untied Tempus so that we could walk him a bit, and all he wanted to do is rear and buck up in his stall, and lets just say it is not fun to be cornered in a stall with a huge rearing up horse. And then since he was acting up, my other horse decided to join in the games and act up too. But call me crazy, but I still love them anywway ! :)
Oh my, that sounds very scary! I vote for mild sedative. Maybe a half dose of what he was on before. Not enough to make him unsteady on his feet, just enough to take the edge off. Glad you didn't get hurt!
Prayers continue for the both of you!
Amy,
You, Tim, and the horses still remain in my thoughts and prayers. Please do continue to keep us updated on his progress and how he is doing.
Love ya as always my dear.
Thanks all. Tempus is healing slowly. Slow but sure. He is still tied up, which drives him crazy, and he lets you know he is not happy. When you go to feed him, he sends his feed bucket flying at you ! ::)
I know he's healing from really bad cuts, but would it be possible to still ride him? That might give him something to focus on ... if the halter isn't in the way of the wounds, then maybe? Or just keep taking him for as many walks as you can?
All we can do from here is brainstorm and keep praying for his healing!
He has not been ridden for about five years cause he had a nerve disorder that affected his back.
He gets hand walked every day. Yesterday we gave him a treat and let him, and my mare run around together for a few minutes in the snow.
That's too bad ... I'll bet he misses it, but I understand about the body just not able when the mind is willing.
Keep up the hand walking. (I know you will, just cheering you on!) :)
More prayers for healing and perseverence coming your way!
How's he doing?
Well up tell this weekend I would say he was aabout 8o% healed. He still had a few small wounds that were still mushy.
The biggest concern was that he was getting agitated being in his stall all the time and refusing to eat lately , and dropping weight like crazy , despite evrything we were giving him to keep the weight on him. So my husband was concerned about him not eating, and decided to be nice to him and let him go loose for abit outside in his corral. Tempus seemed to be behaving himself. he was running aound in the snow enjoying himself, so my husband left him unattended in his corral and went to clean his stall.
Well Tempus, that trouble maker, either he had a itch or something, found something to rub his face on and reopend a couple of wounds. They are not as bad as when it first happen months ago, but it looks like he will be tied up a for a few more weeks, until the wounds are COMPLETELY HEALED , this time. ::)
Sorry about the setback, but glad to hear he is continuing to heal. It amazes me that they will scratch open a wound, but that is animals for you.
Prayers continue, and do keep us posted.
Update?
He is healing . :) His wounds are all scabbed over. We let him out last night for a few minutes to romp around in the snow with his sister and he seemed to enjoy that. Then we put him back in his stall, and cross tied him back up, cause we don't want him knocking the scabs off like he has done before, cause we love him dearly, but my husband is getting tired of hand feeding him and hand walking him, evry few hours.
Amy I'm glad to hear that Tempus is continuing to heal but sorry to hear about his recent setback. Prayers continue to come his way and please continue to keep us updated on his progress.
Thanks Lord W.
Yes, unfortunately he was just about healed, and he went and tore open his wounds . They are pretty infected. He looks terrible. My poor husband is starting to feel fustrated, cause it just seems to be one endless cycle. Every time Tempus starts to heal, despite every precautionary measure we take, and every medicine we use, and every anti itch product, etc... the horse finds a way to reopen his wounds.
I had a couple friends, including friends who are horse owners tell me Tempus can't go on like this and that maybe we should put him down. I have been there before with a horse my family use to have and really don't want to go that route again. It has to be my husband Tim 's decision to what he to do. Tempus belongs to him. ( The mare belongs to me. )
Tempus has been a good horse. I hate to see him suffer. I know my mare will miss him if anything happens to him. She was just a baby when i got her, and we already had Tempus. Tempus was like her big protective older brother.
So if anything I would ask that you pray that Tim makes the right decision on what to do with Tempus.
Consider it done Amy. Prayers are being sent yours and Tim's way both.
Amy, do you have an update on Tempus? We haven't heard anything about him in awhile.
Tempus is still around. We came very close back in March to putting him down, after the dear, sweet, darn horse ( he always was a trouble maker ) went and rubbed open quite a few of his wounds causing some of them to get infected. But he has been part of the family for so long, we decided to give him one more chance.
So needless to say we were back to square one again, and he went back to being tied up in his stall when we cant keep an eye on him. We only let him out into his corral when we are around to watch him. H e is not too crazy about that and lets us know by kicking his stall door at night. I swear, he knows that the barn is within 20 feet of our bedroom window and does it on purpose to get even with us !
He is about 90 percent healed down. He will always have scars and a great big bump on his forehead. Now w e just nedd to put weight back on him. he is very skinny.
Sorry i did not update sooner. So far he is hanging in there.
so glad to hear he is improving. hopefully he will be completely healed soon so he can enjoy his freedom from the cross-ties.
Thanks for the update on Tempus Amy. I'm glad to hear that he is improving though.
Good to hear he's doing better!
Thanks everyone. I am hoping that eventually he will behave himself and not go opening any wounds, so that we can turn him out this summer to graze outside with his sister.
An Update :
just wanted to let everyone who had prayed for Tempus that with deep sadness Tempus passed away in late Febuary. It was a shock to us all. We went out to the barn to feed him one morning and he was gone.
He was never the same after being attacked and wounded and the vets figures his body just could not fight anymore.
He is truely missed. My other horse still continues to look for her buddy.
:( :(
Aw, I am so very sorry for your loss Lady Amy :'(
Awwwwwwwwww.......... :'(
Amy as I have told you before I am so very sorry to hear of Tempus's death. Please know you that you and yours will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
Lady Amy I am so sorry. My prayers are with you.
One thing about horses they can lose a large amount of blood and do OK... And they heal well if you keep it clean. I have sewn eyelids back on,legs up and all sorts of odd things and they heal fairly fast and well... Blessing on your beast that he may heal up fast and be himself again!!!! OH and they are talented... TBs can find a needle in a haystack and do damage with it... Arabs are much less accident prone...ask how I know!!!!! Blessings Cat
