Ok this is boarding on harrassment.  For a month you havne't done anything. no complaints, no banging, nothing.  Then out of the blue you start it again.  I will admit when I baby sat the 18 month old. Him knocking stuff over onto the floor, and playing with the blocks did make some noise on the floor, but he was on the rug, on top of the carpet.  Yet you banged on your ceiling to make us  "cut it out".  But geeze it was 4 PM in the afternoon on Labor day sunday!  What are you doing that  you want perfect silence.
Add in that neighbors up here have been having arguments lately, girls roller skating in the hallways, and then the BBQ on the patio labor day night.  What are you mad at us for we haven't' done anything!

Tonight I walked across our tile floor in the kitchen at 8 PM and you started banging on the ceiling.  I start sewing , which I have done all night sometimes, for months, and you get upset at it's "vibrations" are disturbing you.  WTH!!!
I have it on a heavy duty table , and the motor on it isn't that strong.  WHat are you thinking?  If I can't sew past 10 at night I am going to be up a creek.  I'm a seamstress and I can't do everything during day light hours!  This is getting redicious!

Think it through before you decide to do something so next time you won't have this kind of emergency come up. Not my problem that you were too stupid to see the blindingly obvious problem in front of you.

Could someone please explain to me why it is I can't make a friggin joke? Sure it would be a funny thing if someone who was creeped out by bugs had a bug in her bed, that was a joke that it would be funny, not that I was going to do it. Not something to like start a fight over the second week of school... And I didn't even say it to you! I guess I'm most mad at the person I said it to for making it a serious issue.

Girls are stupid. Boys are more fun.

I hate it when you have to travel for 3 weeks after working for 15 or so hours a day for the 3 weeks before that.  I REALLY miss you and it sucks that I cried like 3 yr old when you had to leve again on Monday evening.  I hope you miss me too and I'm glad that faire season is coming up so we will have whole weekends together having fun soon.

"A place for non-specific discussions outside the realm of faire"

Unless it's my thread, then it's deleted without as much as a "how do you do".  It is your site, do with it as you wish.  I would even accept "We did not want political threads of any type", but I would have thought in the "Spirit of Ren" I would have recieved the decency of a PM or other notification.  Apparently I am not worth the effort.  I thought we were friends...

Go back to your videos of "three ways and beer", apparently they are more accepted than political discourse.

No doubt I too will suffer the fate of my posts...

For a political thread I thought it actually lasted pretty long. I understand why you are upset, but I'm kind of surprised it didn't go down sooner. I hope you stay on here.
Many of my closest friends are politically miles away from me, but the friendship I have with them is far more important then our political leanings, in my opinion.
I might disagree with you- but I say Huzzah to you for starting a discussion that did not go completely nuclear.
Now, since this is a vent thread- my back is freaking killing me.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed by that thread being locked, too.  I thought it was civil, intelligent, and certainly fit the theme of "outside the realm of faire."  I haven't been here long, but perhaps there's just some unstated "no political threads" policy.

I also found our banters back and forth to be remaining quite civil, whereas I have seen such discussions fall apart WELL before they hit the length we had going on that one.

10 or 11 pages? 150-some posts? No blood?  Not even any name-calling?  Not bad for a politically themed thread.

I am a member of several message boards/forums...

One thing that can bring down a thread, and indeed a whole forum, is politics...

This forum has remained, for the most part, free of political discussion. And, that is something I like about this site. I have seen too many sites brought down by political banter.

The thing about political talk is that it doesn't take much to set the powder keg off. There are always people, from both sides, that can keep things civil, but it only takes one person who can't, to light the fuse that will set the powder keg off. And, sooner or later, that keg will get lite. I have seen it happen over and over....

Some people are being hard on Bacardi for shutting down a political thread on this board. I don't blame him for doing so in the least. Actually, I am surprised he let it go for as long as he did. I don't think he meant anything personal by locking it off. I just think he meant to avoid a potentially ugly situation from happening. Kinda nipping it in the bud as it were.

Perhaps thing could have been handled better. I don't know. Maybe this forum does need a disclaimer saying that political topics are not welcome here?

Wait is this about the question I asked? Dude it was a question. I have not been on the forum most of the week so I had no idea who locked it or what happened. I just heard it was locked, not who locked. I am not being hard on Bacardi. Who locked the thread is not my concern, I just wondered why it was locked and why it was removed. I missed most of the thread...

It had nothing to do with you Rage....

I have read other posts on this thread and the Random Topics one that alluded to this. When I wrote my post I had not even read what you said.

What I said was just my thoughts, in general on political banter. Noting I said was directed at you. As you said, you weren't here then and had nothing to do with it.

My apologies if you though my earlier post was directed at you. It was not...

Now for the expensive part...if you PM'd me BEFORE this post and happen to be at MNRF tomorrow allow me the honor of buying a round.  Each and every one of you are tops in my book.

I know I did not get a baseline mammogram when I should have. I was having a baby and lactating. Now I've found a lump and am getting a mammogram today. I am freaking terrified. I have four special needs kids and MS and I don't need a lecture. I need a hug. So either keep your mouth shut, or help me. Berate me after the results and for Goddess sake, if it is cancer, just shut the heck up.  I am so going to go off if you lecture me just one more time.

I just found out this morning that as I am waiting at the bus stop with my son that a lady across the street uses her dad's address for her child so her child can get bused to school. she shows up at 830 am every morning to get her kid on the bus and then after the bus leaves she takes off. I so want to call the school on this. GRRRRRRR....she doesnt live there, I dont know where she lives but that is wrong in my book. She probably doesnt even pay for it either.

For some reason, most Americans are able to talk more openly and candidly about their favorite sports teams than about the folks we hire to run our nation.  We're also able to admit more faults in our sports teams than our chosen parties (I'm a Detroit Lions fan, so I'll admit there's a lot to critique).  Discussing politics is apparently the third rail of social conversation.  A complete lack of real discourse likely explains why our elections have come to resemble American Idol more than thoughtful selections of our country's leaders.

Dogma and identity politics rule the day.  Viva le democracy.

As for the thread in question, I certainly don't agree with axing a very civil conversation between mature adults on the basis of "what could have been", but hey, it's not my board.

Okay, so they found the lump I found and it was nothing, BUT they found a VERY suspicious lump in the other breast and I have to see an oncologist. It's important to see one soon, so when do they make the appointment? When? OCT-FREAKING-TOBER NINTH!!!! I'm supposed to just sit around and let my Tylenol with an ear grow till then? (that's what it looks like). I don't think so, Mr. I'm about to call oncology and toss a cow. I mean a whole cow. Horns and all. Dang waiting times. My breast doc wanted me to see them next week, at the latest. Grrrrrrrrr.

And again, people are lecturing me about waiting for my baseline. Shut up, just shut up and be quiet and say nothing. It's better than a, "Well, I hope this is a wake up call." No kidding. Go away.

Harrumph.

For what it's worth, I don't think you are being unreasonable. Thus practice that has developed about giving people appointments well into the future when it is obvious that they need it now just sucks!

Gotta love Health Care!  They're probably banking on the problem just "going away" between now and then.
A friend of mine went through something similar with an MRI.  His Dr said he needed it, his Ins Company said "Yea...not so much"

Unfortunately, I follow politics more closely then most. I just don't talk about them is all. The thing I have learned about political threads on forums is that most people who do post to them already have their minds made up anyway. Nothing anyone else says is going change their minds either. Discussions get circular in nature. The same things get re-hashed time and time again. There are some people who can keep things civil. But, as I said earlier, in my experiences, things only stay civil for so long. Sooner or later some newbie, who takes themselves way to seriously, shows up guns a blazing looking to pick something with anyone who dares to disagree with them, or some pot stirrer shows up (who really doesn't care about the topic) who just wants to push some buttons and see what happens. Some one gets drunk and bored some night and tosses in a little bomb shell just to see what will happen and who will bite.

I agree with you. The thread in question did remain civil. Should it have been axed? I guess that's a matter of opinion. I never would have let it got started based on my past experiences in other forums. Been there, done that. I wouldn't give it a chance to start up again.

You...are completely insufferable.  Yes, I was irritated.  Hell, I was REALLY angry.  So, I tried to vent to you, because I thought you'd understand.  Oh, silly me!  I thought that since -you- vented about the same thing yesterday, I was allowed to be angry about it today.  At least I have a -right- to be angry about it.  Your hours got cut for ONE STINKIN' WEEK!  Mine?  Yeah.  I was down to 32 hours two weeks ago.  Last week, I got my full hours.  Now?  For the next three weeks, I'm down to 32 again, and you're sitting pretty with your full hours.  I -know- it's not your fault, and I was NOT angry with you.  Yes, I said "It looks like you're not going to have to worry about having your hours cut."  I said it because you are NOT having your hours cut.  Yours haven't been touched.  They're golden.  Mine, on the other hand, have.  And stop giving me that "Don't take it personally" bull.  I'm sure you'll be pissed when they -do- cut your hours the three weeks after that, and it'll be all MY fault because I complained.  Well, the deal was, we'd alternate.  One week my hours would be cut, the next yours would.  Since that hasn't worked out, I brought it to our manager's attention.  But when I left the room to go talk to said manager, YOU called our effing co-manager and personnel and told them that I just WALKED OUT!  Didn't have the foresight to page ME first to see what was up.  Just told them I had walked out.  Thankfully, I heard you screaming into the phone from the next room over, so I walked into their office and let them know that, while I had walked out of the office to seek out our assistant, I had not actually "walked out."

I'm so sick of your "Well, my budget is dependent on having all of my hours" CRAP.  Your husband makes THREE TIMES what mine does.  I know that these are some hard times, financially, for everyone, but do NOT pretend that you have it worse off than me.  If you're that hard-up, stop driving the SUV and start driving your other car.  You know, the Lincoln.  You're constantly getting your carpets cleaned and buying new furniture and clothes, while I'm struggling to put gas in my 15-year old car so I can come to a job where people who are in less important positions and have only been with the company for a year or two are bringing home a good deal more money than me, when I've been there nearly 6 years.

I'm sure you're thinking it'll just drive me out, and that my being gone "won't make much difference," since you apparently know how to do it all PERFECTLY.  Thing is, lady, I spend time EVERY WEEK correcting YOUR mistakes.  I won't pretend I've never made my own mistakes.  I know I have, but -I- own up to them.  I can't even tell you about yours, and I can't even try to teach you anything, because you get all offended and say I'm being bossy and make snide "Yes, teacher.  I'll do better next time" comments. Woman, you are nearly 60 years old.  Grow up a little, okay?

Give me a friggin break!!!  Just because there is not a funeral, I have to use my vacation time?!?!  I need time to grieve...that's why it's called grievance leave...  Do you really want me sitting at the office crying????
And...You already screwed me out of 1/2 a day vacation leave when we had to close for the last hurricane scare.  It's doesn't matter if I had time scheduled off...if you do it to me again I'm gonna be really ticked off!!!!!!!

Isn't it amazing how the ghost of a political thread has the power to start it's own argument?  "It sucks that they axed it!"  "Yea, but they had to!" "Yea, but it still sucks!" and so on and so on.  I've come to realize that "They" did what "They" did based on prior experience, because it seems absolutely everyone has their "On this other forum..." story.  Unfortunately, to me at least, it seems the more it's talked about, the more it comes across as "You can't be trusted with your toys.  We saved you from yourselves."
In the words of the great Forrest Gump..."That's all I got ta say 'bout that"

A few things stand out to me here, and in that entire little episode in general; things which I find at least mildly insufferable.    I mean, as long as we're venting...

1.  People who claim they simply "know better" when it comes to other adults, be it from a past experience, a hunch, or something they picked up on an old episode of Barney Miller.  Really, I'm a big kid now.  I know what a civil discussion looks like and everyone participating in it was participating at a level-headed, mature level; regardless of what may or may not have happened in some thread on another website.

2.  Skittishness.  If there *might* be a disagreement, bring forth the axe and lop off the head of the offending discussion.  Look, as I've said, it's not my board.  If I were paying for it, I could make the calls.  I respect that.  I'm a business owner, and I don't let people wander in off the streets and make the rules.  That said, every single comment I've seen in opposition that thread has been chock full of "what if", "it could have", "i know a guy who knew a guy", "i was in a thread arguing the comparative qualities of Bob Dole and Jabba The Hut once and it went nuclear...", etc.  Honestly, could somebody pass the crystal ball?  I have some more stocks I'd like to pick up.

3.  The inability of people to just skip a thread, change the channel, etc.  I don't like American Idol.  I'm not going to disparage it, but I just don't like it.  So, I developed this handy response mechanism to American Idol:  I just don't watch it.  While I appreciate that the last thing in the world the mods want is an inbox full of complaints, I'm left wondering why the offended individuals were even reading it in the first place.  It took all of the first four words to identify that thread as political.  Folks, just skip it.

Again, no problem in the world that it was killed.  He who owns the board makes the call.  But really folks, I think we've had just about enough amateur psychology and faulty causality.

I can't disagree with you completely on a lot of what you said. The argument you are making is one I made about 6 or 7 years ago on another forum. You know what I got as a response from the head honcho mod there?..

I paraphrase, but she basically told me that it was their forum and if I didn't like the way they did things to feel free to leave. They wouldn't miss me if I were gone. And, not to let the door hit me on the way out. She also suggested that I start my own forum where I could run things as I saw fit.

I really didn't care for that answer, but later I became a mod on a forum and I guess I saw things differently then. When I had to deal with the crap I changed my mind. There is a hell of difference between being a mod and being a member. You kinda get a feel for the threads that are going to cause you problems and after a while you just say the heck with them and shut them down before they get a chance to clutter your inbox. I don't mod anymore (except for one small forum), because I got sick of dealing with the crap. I got better things to do with my time.

I guess the bottom line is....If you don't like the way things are handled there really isn't a whole hell of a lot you can do about it. Get use to it or....move on....

It really is that simple....

Thankfully, I am not a mod here. All I am saying, is I completely understand why they did what they did.

You can try to file a grievance with ebay and paypal (if you used it).  I had a similar problem last summer and had to go through a lot of hassle, but finally got every penny refunded.  Lesson learned: do not buy what you can't try.  I seriously doubt I will make any garb purchases from ebay ever again!

I'm too nervous to buy clothes off of E-Bay, but were I you, I'd at least try and fight it.  By no means, should you "take the hit, wear it and look stupid", as you seem to be someone who takes a lot of pride in your garb.  Do what you can to get something out of the woman and go to your other source for your new coat.

How on earth can an internet package with limited downloads be considered an upgrade from an internet package with unlimited downloads??  And what's with the "We don't have the unlimited package anymore"?  Everyone else still does.  You just love doing this to your customers, don't you?  They sign up for something, then you switch midway through it and force them to pay more.  Well, I don't work that way, as you discovered.  I bet you just loved having to take  that extra charge off my bill after I tore into you, didn't you?  And you can be sure that, just as soon as we find the one we like the best, we'll be switching to a new internet provider.

(That was odd.  I'm not sure whom I was channeling when I did the above, but I don't normally "tear into people", and I rarely vent.)   :P

You give me DIDDLE for requirements, tell me "oh, that's in the docs from the business owner" and expect me to do the work of translating them into requirements (which is Your Job Ahole!) and still I get the job done.

I'm tired of people assuming things. I'm tired of people turning my freinds into my enemies.  I have never had anyone ever say anything like this about me, this is such hs bull.  Its ok to make me look like I'm the one, I'm the one whos the trouble maker, and when I defend myself or vent about, I get the "guilty" bs. You Sir, and I use the term extremely loosely, are an IDIOT!!!

We don't have the data, we don't keep it, so if we want to use it to compare later, We WILL Need to capture it, which means adding more elements to that table, which increases the complexity of the design.  AGAIN!!!!  Then you claim that "we probably Do have it, the documentation system just doesn't reflect it".  NO A_HOLE!!!  There are gaps in the documentation for Some Systems, however this isn't one of them.

How in the world did you get this position?!?!  Oh, I'm So Glad to hear that you won't be asked to convert to an employee!!!  My manager doesn't have time to spend straightening you out, explaining things to you that you should already know or be able to figure out for yourself.  You Don't Listen!!!

Count your days, and polish your resume, because I doubt Anyone here will give you a positive referral.  The only reasons you're still here are 1) you're better than nothing, but not much and 2) people like me get the job done In Spite of you.

Alright, co-workers!  Sit down and shut the heck up!

I'm SO sick of hearing you complain at this point.  I honestly almost smacked you this morning.  I'm sure it contributed to my leaving early.  Perhaps it even contributed to the hives that actually did cause me to leave early.

No, it is not fair that we probably won't be getting a bonus this quarter, since the largest cause of our loss was an act of Mother Nature.  Yes, it is a little exasperating that we may have to shell out our hard-earned dollars for a new dress code.  BUT WHO REALLY CARES?!

I know, I know.  We work for a multi-billion dollar corporation.  However, the economy's in a rough spot right now, and they DO have to think about their business.  With the areas largest employer slowly going out, we are projected to lose at LEAST 20% of our sales in the coming months.  In addition, yes.  The wind storm screwed us.  No, the insurance will -not- pay for "nearly all" of the almost $200k in product we lost, nor will it pay for all of the sales we lost when we were closed for well over 12 hours.  It will pay $75k.  That's it.  Sorry.  Live with the facts.

Though "the company" wouldn't like to, or want to, they could, if needed, close our doors at any time.  Now, personally, I'd rather have a steady job than a $200 "bonus" that comes on our regular paycheck so that it gets taxed to hell and probably puts you in the next tax bracket so -everything- gets taxed even more for that check.  Even the largest bonus we got, at nearly $300 only took my check up by about $175, maybe $200.

Oh, and the dress code?  Black (possibly khaki) pants and cranberry/red shirts.  We're already in khaki, so you're set there.  If you don't already own some black pants, I'd be kinda surprised, since it's a basic wardrobe staple.  As for the shirts, they don't have to be fancy.  There are t-shirts in both men's and women's that cost all of $5.

If you hate working here so desperately that you're miserable enough to do all you can to make everyone else miserable...EFFIN' QUIT!  I'm sure your bright and shiny optimism will get you a new job faster than you can say "supercallifragilisticexpiallidocious." ((/sarcasm))

Yes, A$$hat, I'm aware that my dept. is responsible for handling all the UPS that comes in to and goes out of the resort.  Here's the thing, YOU need to get the name, billing info, address, etc before you bring it down to me and BEFORE THE GUEST LEAVES!!!!  I think that bears repeating: GET THE INFO BEFORE YOU BRING IT TO ME AND BEFORE THE GUEST LEAVES!!! Do you think I have a magical UPS eight ball down here that divulges all the aforementioned info?????  I realize that it can be hard to stop shilling for a tip once in awhile and think, but since you didn't, I now have 20 or so packages and NO ONE knows who they go to.  And guess who gets to field all THOSE calls??
Thanks, thanks a lot.

It would be lovely ms. Dr's office receptionist, if you would be so kind as to let me finish a complete sentance before interrupting me to transfer me to a desk where no one is there! Where no one EVER is, isn't answering the phone your job anyways? there's like 8 people in the drs office that aren't at the nurses desk that must have 5 seconds to go check my vaccination record since i need it for school! and since the fax machine is in your office anyways, you're probably going to end up doing it anyways!

Just one more reason that i shoulda switched to my mom's office a looong time ago, my entire family used to go to your office, now just me and my dad, I can't imagine why the rest left after your sucky service!

I'd like to shove the stereo right up your south of the border butts! I'm sick and tired of hearing your music in my apartment!
How many times has the manager told you to knock it off?
I've been here 13 plus years, I guarantee you, you'll be evicted before Thanksgiving! I'll see to it!
How do you expect people to respect and like you if all you are going to do is be a weed puller to everyone else around you?

Hey IKE, Kiss THIS!   (Yes, I really want to say more here about this, but I don't want to risk getting myself booted or banned for excessive use of profanity).

Ugh, even our own STUDENT WORKERS complain about orientation! Yes, it's on Halloween. We don't love it either. But it can't be avoided. A) We have to do several orientations, which have to fall between application deadline and finals, and they HAVE to be on Fridays because there aren't enough classrooms open on other days. One of those Fridays is the day after Thanksgiving, which is a U holiday, one of those Fridays is the last day of Friday classes, people are going to be out of town, etc. B) It only goes until 6, so you still have time to go out and get drunk on Halloween. And C) We don't care if you show up in costume.

Gees, don't be such a thick-headed moron!  The curfew is not something we need to worry about!  Be more concerned if the venues will actually have power than when people have to be off the street.

Here we are on September 24, 2008 13 days after the first bands started making landfall and I still have no power at the house.  Now, Centerpoint Energy stated they would have my power up by Monday September 22, however it is not until sometime on Tuesday September 23 that they update their site and now it says I won't have power until Sunday September 28.  I am NOT a happy Dragon right now.  >:(

Um, I thought the requirements stated that THREE years of experience working in Education were necessary? Why, then, are people being interviewed who do not meet that qualification? If I don't get the job, fine. But if I am passed over for someone who does NOT meet the posted requirements, I am going to be pissed.

Argh...

My other car is broke.  I burned out the alternator on a trip to the Black Hills this summer and now I am getting engine codes.  The same codes that knocked me out of last race season.  Time to rebuild the TPI and get a new Mass Airflow Sensor.  Then I get to have it track tuned for another $500.  Might as well replace the injection system while I have it all apart.  Sheesh.

At least I'm in the 175 mph club in that car!

So Mad Jack, what's it like being "spin" less???  From the way you were wobbling in the lanes at fest it looked like you'd done your fair share of spinning for the day, or was that just the rum talking?
LOL, misspelling just takes so much steam out of a good rant.
Welcome to the illustrious group of those LD has namelessly vented about.  Oh wait, my mistake, she's vented about you before, I'm just a bit late in congratulating.

My vent...if *you* (gee wonder who *I* am talking about) keep alienating and insulting members of your local R/F you may find there aren't many interested in listening to *anything* you have to say, much less take any word seriously.
