I will be there!

Not many probably know this but i'm Scott-Irish. My grandfather researched our ancestry a while back...I was maybe 10, all I recall was the "Hey, we're Scott-Irish!" part but recent interest had me do my own research and delve deeper and I'm sure glad I did. I'll be all out with my Scottish/Irish pride this weekend! (Really just Scottish; my original Ancestors = Irvine of Scotland.)

Anyhoo.. I will be (hopefully if my endeavors are fruitful this week and I can find a close looking pattern somewhere local) wearing my Clan Irvine colors! Even if not, I can always stop by the Scot Shoppe first thing Saturday morning :)

(PSST! If anyone does know of a local place that sells Clan Pins, Tartans, etc, though, I'd greatly appreciate the info!)

My best friend and a few others will be camping with Brigadoon; however, I may try and stay with McLotofus. I'll keep y'all posted. Either way, I'll definitely be there, be it day trip or camping :)

Aye, I've never met another Scott-Irish! Glad to know I'm not the only one, either! Do you know what Clan your side is originally from? I've been Google and other place searching like crazy lately finding mine, although mine was pretty easy because it's only my Father's side and the name is close enough to its original state (Erwin..Irvine)..lol..but it's been fun finding out about it!

Huzzah! Can't wait to see everyone this weekend :D

The Scotts don't like to admit it, but they are all Irish who got lost on a boat :D

Seriously, they all descend from the Dal Riata tribes of NE Ireland, who colonized and later migrated to Alba. Sometime after that is when they took to wearing skirts and squeezing plaid bags full of angry cats under their arms while trying to inflate them, so we cannot be held responsible for their actions after they left ;D

Well my moms side is southern irish then they moved to scottland, and dads side is dark irish from northern ireland. I asked my uncles earlier this year, while i was in scottland what clan our family was from , but i couldnt really understand much of what they were saying, lol.

Speaking of the Dal Riata...that's who Clann Dochartaigh is supposed to represent! And you can bet we'll be there in all our wayward glory for Highland Fling! We're camping up on the "hill," so all of you feel free to come say hello, unless we stumble upon you first!

Oh, so if it was when you were 10 it would have been ......what? last year?  ;) Just kidding, sweet girl.  I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't pick on my hoochiesis. Glad you're getting into the ancestor research.  It's an amazing journey.  Strangely enough, I have found more of my relatives on Facebook than I have been able to elsewhere in the last 10 years of trying.

I'll be there with the brood on Saturday as usual, but no camping for us until the baby learns to sleep in a tent without keeping everyone up all night.  Huzzah for daytripping! Hope to see you then  ;D

well, my family is...

English (well, practically Welsh as the castle stands at the edge of teh Welsh Marches), then a marriage was annulled after a child was born (no record of marriage but record of anullment) and father and child moved to Scotland. That DeBohun line grew up and occasionally married into the English line... then during the Clearances, part of the Scottish De Bohun line moved to Ulster, and then, a century or so (and a name change to Bone after further distancing themselves from the English cousins) William Bone came to the Americas with William Penn and settled in Pennsylvania. His children, grandchildren, etc, made thier way south through the appalaichas and eventually settled in Texas... and one of those generations married my great grandmother...

The DeBohun line was mother to Kings (Henry V) and godfather to Conquerors. We charged into battle (Bannockburn) and commissioned great works (the DeBohun Psalter, which passed from Queen to Queen down to Katharine of Aragon)

lol I am JUST a little proud of my heritage!!!

I will be there with some friends (maybe) and they are on my bad side right now so I use the term loosely.

Anyone who wants to stop by for some whiskey or tequila is welcome. The tarp support has been reinforced for use as a stripper pole for anyone interested, or if you get enough liquor in me I might .... . Look for a 20x30 blue tarp by a Honda with a roof rack. I haven't been to the faire for 4 years and its good to be coming back. It will be good to meet new people and see some old faces.

I will be there both Friday and Saturday nights camping.

See everyone there.

I will be there both days performing.

Since we are all giving our ancestry, I am Italian/Irish (50/50).  Ann Marie has been trying to get me into a kilt since we have been going to fair.  I have told her that (1)I am not Scottish, (2)that the Irish did not wear them, and (3)that I never would.  One day I said that in front of my mother who does a lot of geneology for our family.  She commented, "That's not entirely true."  Apparently her Irish ancestors do have ties to Scotland so a few hundred years back I am told that some of my ancestors were Scots......I still am not wearing a skirt.  ;D

People get the notion that hundreds of years ago no one ever went more than walking distance from their village. Thats true in most cases, but some folks moved around quite a bit, and since the Scots and Irish have been seafairing folk for a thousands of years, they mixed it up quite a bit.
My crew came here to America in the 1760's, but has been in Ireland since 1170 after we came from Britain (or Wales) with Strongbow's invading army, and must have liked it there. Before that we were in Brittany, At least all Celtic lands!

As far as Irish never wearing kilts, you are right as far as we know, but since the highland Scots were so closely related to the Irish at one time, the Irish might have devoloped the same type of garment if the English would have left them alone for 5 seconds in the last 800 years!
But these days the kilt and tartan have become a "pan Celtic" symbol, many Irish, Welsh, Manx, and Cornish people are sporting them to symbolize their Celtic heritage and say "hey I'm not English!"

I think we're gonna try aroung rows 5 - 9 about 1/3 to 1/2 way back, but we haven't been in years

Look for a bug tarp strung between a silver honda with a overly large (for a honda) roof rack and a blue 2 door explorer
with an 8 foot support in the middle.

It will be good to be back after a long break.

Chris, ya' go with the one you feel.  Look at the actor Iron Eyes Cody, His parents were Italian immigrants, but he became so immersed in Native American culture working as an actor that he lived as an Indian his whole life.
My family was transported from Ireland to Virginia in the 1760s. Shortly after, they spred out into areas populated by ethnic Germans. I'm not sure why, maybe they resented the English.  By the time we got to Texas (also heavily settled by Germans) in the 1880s my family all had German given names and moved into the 'Germantown' part of the Houston area.
My fraternal grandmother was the first member of her family (Jung) born here, her folks left West Prussia in 1888 and got off the boat in Galveston.
I grew up figuring we were German, and indeed I have almost as much German DNA than the British royal family, (look it up) but we started doing a little research in the 80's and discovered this whole other world! I found the Celtic stuff called out to me louder than anything, and now consider myself a proud Irish-American.

The kilt is descended from the brat, a plaid cloak worn by the Irish- and the Continental Celtic peoples, though they called it something different- since time immemorial. It is typically worn off one shoulder, but when the Dal Riata settled in Alba, the sharper changes in temperatures caused a change in how it was worn. They belted it around the waist for warmth, but as the day got hotter, would leave it belted and drop it off the shoulders to cool off a bit. Over time- and we're talking centuries here- it evolved into a garment similar to the great kilt. The clan tartans and such are very recent, being an 18th century invention wherein regional plaid patterns were assigned to specific clans.

All that being said, we'll be out there starting tomorrow, but will have to leave early Sunday for a family event.

One of my very favorite things in the world is watching a man who knows how to wear his kilt flip those pleats as he turns on his heel in a sharp 90 degree wheel, and to see an entire regiment do this in unison just makes my lil' ol' heart flutter!   :o  :D
