Title: Camping Question
Post by: Fred on November 10, 2009, 08:45:02 PM
New to this forum.  Have been a couple of times to TRF and would like to try camping.  I have a pop-up trailer and quiet Honda generator.  I have read some of the stuff on here about roping off areas and people being unhappy about others being in their spot by mistake etc.

Hey, I'd really like to find a camp spot farthest from everybody with no problems and no worries.  What I'd want most is to camp in a more remote area with my quiet generator facing the woods or something so it does not disturb anyone.

I love TRF and would like to explore the camping scene, but for this first time, I'd like to feel the warmth of the fire, not be in it (if you know what I mean).

Are there locations within the camp area where territory rights are not an issue and one can even expect to get some sleep past midnight?  I'd like to be in a location nobody else wants (too far a walk) and where I will not bother folks running a quiet Honda all night long.

You can always just camp with us over in row 0 at Phoenix Risen
Seriously, a quiet honda generator won't bother much of anyone. Personally I consider them a sleep aid. Nice having that white noise block out all the camp chatter at bedtime.
Territories are for the most part from row 8 to row one and into the newly cleared area. From there people have areas they like to claim heading on back along the gravel road about to the bend.
If you are looking for an area without a claim to it anywhere from the bonfire to family camp with the exception of the area the Celtic Rouges camp in is pretty much unclaimed for the most part so finding a spot isn't that difficult really

*and if you bring rum for your neighbors you get to make new friends real fast*

Oh great, thanks for the good report and the invite.  I was thinking of getting there early Friday to pick a "good" spot, but maybe I'd do better coming in a little later on Friday so I can see where the cherished spots are located (already taken) and pick something that is not encroaching on others.

Yes, I will bring plenty of rum to share and hope to meet some good folks out there.

I saw a map on here with a Alpha Numeric grid to show where various clans wanted to be, but it did not indicate the no-generator family area.

The Green Flame also has a spot west of the rogues on the same side of that road as well, but we also don't mind folks camping near us or with us. And thank you for having a quiet generator. To many folks showing up with their contractor (construction) generators from work and then deciding to move them 50 ft from their camp so they don't have to hear it but putting it like 5 feet away from some other camps tent.... and they wonder why bad thing shappen to good generators.

Sorry Scoutcolt, forgot to mention where you guys camp. Some day I promise to remember to stagger by there on a walkabout
I know there are other clan types in various locations, can't catch them all lol
When I mentioned the rouges I was thinking of the other clans that have sprung up in that area also (not yours, but there are other small ones around there as well).
The grid is posted on the forum here somewhere... I am sure someone will post it eventually
Not me... to tired lol

*rum helps with sleepy-time*

Bah. No offense taken ever. We're relatively new in comparison to alot of folks. 5 years now. Just pointing us out more to say that if anyone camps between us and the rogues, their usually in good company. I don't think we've ever had any problems pop up in the area between our two camps.

And your more than welcome anytime. Just look for the glowing ball of Green in the sky and you'll find us!

Clan McLotofus USUALLY pitches camp around Row 8... at least for the Big 3.  On the off weekends, we seem to drift more towards Row 6/7.  We are the clan closest to the Drum Circle (with Brigadoon & Valhalla right behind us) and can be spotted by all the lights... stop by and say hello to us.  ;D
