Working festivals for years, I typically play Spanish nobles, more importantly, I play Don Juan.  I usually wear tights with a codpiece, unless it is really cold, in which case I wear my slopps.  Although, let's face it, if you are playing a character named Don Juan tights are really the way to go.  Depending on who I go to for my tights, they sometimes don't have a codpiece attached so I am looking for a separate codpiece, most likely custom done.  I know of twigandberriesonline.com, but does anyone know of other shops or sites?  When I worked KCRF a few performers had metal codpieces that could work for what I'm going for.  Any ideas?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the codpiece evolved into and why.

Early hoses/trousers/tights often consisted of two long legs tied together around the hip/waist area. The cod piece seems to originally have been a piece covering the gap. Don't misunderstand, men wore briefs back then too. It's not like the area in between was all uncovered. Here's a painting showing the long hoses/tights tied outside the briefs:

The cod piece was a sturdy construction which "secured" the exposed area, and it was also practical as it was sometimes used as a pocket for coins etc (no kidding). Over the time it became a decorative element more than a practical one, and the cod piece sometimes grew out of proportions. It disappeared as the trousers became very wide and the waist high in the 17th century. Buy boy, was it funky!  I wonder what people would have said if something similar came into fashion today? It would probably be considered incredibly improper and horrendous...

No worries.  Yeah, I have many pair from seamlyne from when I lived in KC and worked KCRF.  My issue comes from those tights that don't have a codpiece.  Plus, I like the obnoxious cockiness of a codpiece.  lol

Codpieces are not that hard to make. This is a basic pattern that I use about half the time.
You just need to add picot ribbon to it and your tights so that you can tie it in place.
