Was just wondering who all was going.  Also, anyone who has attended in previous years, can you tell me how to prepare and what to expect?

we were planning on going to run Dark Nova demo games, but everyone is still financially wiped from Comicpalooza, so alas, we'll have to do it next year :(

I can understand that.  I wasnt able to attend Comicpalooza, which I know was a blast, so I was hoping at least some of you crazy kids would be out at A-Con

oh, believe me if I can swing the finances I will be there, but I won't know that for another week, at which point they will have closed out the gaming openings.

The Houston Browncoats run a Firefly LARP there so I went last year. It's a much smaller con. It's more about the panels and workshops than anything. I know the Executioner was on one of the writing panels last year if I remember correctly. They don't have a program schedule up yet, but usually it is writing, movies and NASA related. There's also many games going on.
On a long enough time line, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

Is it a necessity to pre-register for anything I think I might want to do, or is there walk-in options?

The husband and I will be spending the weekend there for our anniversary, and are looking forward to it :)

The Girltourage and I will be out all weekend, as we have for the last 8 years. If you see us, as about our jello-shot based con-within-a-con; Jello-Con 2011!  :D
ApolloCon is primarily a literary con, but they usually have a little of everything, good panel discussions, art show, dealer room, costuming, gaming, media room, con suite, etc. It's a casual event, and there are no additional registrations for stuff once you get in the door.  Expect a smaller event than Comicpaloza though.

Myself, Lollie, and my Wolverine (read: the boyfriend) will likely be there. Trying to decide right now if we want to get a hotel room and party all weekend, or just day trip on Sat or Sun..

I am still undecided. Comicon or Apollocon. May visit Apollocon Friday night.

Mr. Sparrow, you should spend Saturday at Apollo con.  Some of your crew will be out there!  :)

Zardoz, if Im not participating in an event, like a LARP session, or the trivia game, or costume show, or whatever, am I still allowed to watch?  Or are those things only open to the people participating?

There are no "closed events" at Apollocon, once you pay your registration all the discussion panels and workshops are open to whoever wants to sit in, the costume contest is done in front of an audience, author readings, art show, con suite (free chow), room parties, etc..are open to all, the more the merrier. Our trivia game contestants are pulled from the audience, and we even have some prizes for audience participation.  I don't know if folks can see the actual LARP games, but they have demos that everone can watch.

Look forward to seeing y'all there
