I can't really choose a favorite.  Baj was my first Queen when I was a playtron at Sterling and will always hold a special place in my heart, but every person I've ever known who has had the position of Royal at a faire has earned my utmost respect and awe.  They have one of the hardest jobs at the festival.  They can NEVER have an "off day", they can't ever slow down, their days are scheduled down to the moment, and they have to carry it all off with grace and charm.  And, very important to a fellow actor, they have to know when to shed the royal aura and just be another actor with their peers.

Hard work, and very appreciated!

I am not an employee of Scarborough Faire and to not represent them in any way.

Other than a number of weekend Faires, I have only attended 2 permanent Faires, MDRF and my home Faire, PARF, so I really can't compare Royals. I have seen 4 Elizabeths over the years and my favorite is Kelly Morris. Below is a piece I posted in the PARF section of RF Forums:

It is common knowledge that Kelly Morris, as Queen Elizabeth, took the PaRenFaire by storm last year. She is a consummate actress, a competent musician, and an excellent singer and dancer. The patrons and playtrons were quite pleased when it was announced she would return this year as Queen. I saw a side of Kelly today that totally outshines the work she has done on the Shire.

Besides the set pieces the Queen does, such as Queen's Court and Finale in Song, she also moves about the Shire to meet and greet Her people. She came upon four persons in wheel chairs, all of extremely limited mental capacity. These were people most others would shun and avoid looking upon. In another time they might have been left to die after being born. But Good Queen Bess crouched down in front of each of them to catch their attention, held their hand, and spoke to them as if they were best friends. This was not an actress playing a part but Kelly reaching out with great compassion and kindness to a less endowed human being. I'm sure at some level Kelly touched their spirit. This is the most extraordinary happening I have ever witnessed in all my years of attending RenFaires . I was humbled and edified. What left to say except "God Save The Queen... and Bless Kelly Morris!!!!"

Her Royal Highness Queen Catherine Parr at BARF!!! ;D

Going to have to second that. She's brill.

Lady Catherine

I may be biased, but QE1 at TNRF and LARF! as stated,  she looks JUST like her, and makes all her own gowns, which is much an added bonus imho!   ;D   also, working as her lady iwn waiting, i saw how much she had to endure, and it made my vote sold!!

Coming 2011- Bella the Troll at TNRF!

My favorite royals were Jon Benda and Lolly Foy at CRF. Both were really quick on their feet at improvising. They could be extremely funny or extremely moving as the situation required. It was a special treat on the rare occasions when Lolly would sing "Merry Meet (Bodge's Song)" at the end of the day.

I'm going to have to go with Scarborough's Archduchess followed closely by Queen Margaret and then King Henry VIII and Queen Anne.....and Lady Catherine Whilloughby....are you seeing a trend here?

Also the new King at Pittsburgh's faire....he's awesome even though I've never been there.....HI Billy's Dad!

Have to third that motion.  Her Peep destruction may not be textbook FOKTOP but she makes up for all that and far more in all the rest.   Long Live the Queen!

3-way tie between Scarby's King Henry, Anne Boleyn & Queen Margaret.  The interaction between the King & Queen is so natural you truly believe they're married to each other in real life.  QM always manages to make me laugh several times a year.
And, as my DH said a few pages back, all 3 have a way with kids.  Anne Boleyn specifically has made my daughters day several times during our visits to Scarby.

The funny thing about that is the King is actually married to the Archduchess and if I'm not mistaken Shannon's husband is also on cast

My home fair is MNRF so I admit prejudice.  No disrespect to our current King, but my favorite was King Henry.  He was the King during my fair formative years.

Scarby has the best I've seen: Queen Anne, Queen Margaret and King Henry do a wonderful job. Katherine of Aragon at TRF is excellent. Bill Huddleston at MDRF was a beloved monarch, RIP.

Scarby royals and Katherine always are regal but with a very personal touch. They have time for everyone that visits and are never afraid to have conversations. They never drop there personas either.

You....don't know the Archduchess?  She's only the most awesome-est person ever!  She is the German Ambassador...she usually rides the brown horse in the parade.  She attends the first and final jousts of the day and she is the one who teaches the cast how to dance.  She's flippin' awesome....and she cooks fantastic brats
