To be honest I was hoping to get some suggestions. Just sounds boring hanging around the campgrounds all day Friday.  :-\

In my yute, when camping, we'd pass the time by plinking turtles with a .22....me thinks that ain't allowed here.  :D

We don't just hang around the campgrounds honey. We socialize! You go from camp to camp saying hello and meeting new people, and then drink a LOT of beer. We make any runs to Walmart that need to be made, mostly because someone has forgotten something important. There's usually a run for some sort of fast food, and sometimes there are beer and rum runs. When the sun goes down, everyone settles in for dinner, and the pre-faire parties. About 9ish, drum circle starts.

There's plenty to do, and no time to do it in! Trust me, it's a whole culture that needs to be appreciated and absorbed.

Oh, and last year, we flashed a news helicopter that was circling overhead...

Blue is right, hanging around the campgrounds isn't boring at all.  I was able to take off work on a Friday last year so I could go up Thursday night and spend all day Friday at the campgrounds.  My husband had to work and my son had school so I went by myself.  It was a blast!  I had so much fun just hanging around with everyone!  I would love to be able to do that again this year too.

There's also something to be said for simply sitting in comfortable camp chair and 'soaking it all in'.  I go camping two or three times a year, and I always make sure to take some time to relax and listen to the sounds of camp.

The pings of tents being staked, rennie musicians warming up in the distance, laughter between old friends finding each other at camp...to me, this is what makes camping at TRF an experience.

Of course, after you meditate on that awhile, get off yer butt and go meet people and drink beer.   :)

It ain't the years, it's the mileage.

I completely agree with BatNinja- my favourite times at camp are just playing my rennie music, sitting by the fire, and listening to the sounds of HOME. Now, Ive never gotten to go a full day before faire opens, so I am definitely looking forward to this year when we set up on Friday. Also, for me, pre-faire campground time is when I make those last minute garb alterations!!

Huge bonfire...people sitting around it beating on their drums...girls belly dancing around the bonfire...lots of other people sitting/standing around...that's about it.
