We used to have demos but not anymore.  Anyone can attend most SCA events - you just need to pay the non-member surcharge and come in garb.

This is what the trailer looks like - it's actually pretty close to the shepherd's huts in period.  I just happen to paint it a very certain Tardis blue and have a police sign on the front door...which, sadly, far too many people in my neighborhood haven't understood.  Seriously - the amount of less than competent individuals that have actually tried to open the trailer because it says pull to open is just sad.  However, yeah, the Pennsic rules aren't super strict.  They just don't want canned hams sitting in the middle of the grounds.

I'm staying for the full 17 days.  I did that last year and loved it.

Oh, that's wonderful!  But not everyone is familiar with time-traveling Doctors, you know...  ;)  lol

I've been doing some reading about the event, and it does sound like a great deal of fun, especially if we could find a nice group to camp with... but it's also a bit expensive on our budget.  If we weren't quite so far away it would probably be easier to figure out a way to save for it, especially since my daughter is still a minor, and her fee is really low compared to the adult fee... but even if I could figure out how to save that much during the rest of the year, the travel expenses just aren't even anywhere near within reach.  Especially with the vehicle we have right now.  It does sound like an absolutely wonderful way to close out the summer, though!

Oh, I know.  Still, you'd think that most people would be able to deduce that the sign was some sort of joke/play on some tv show they just haven't heard of.  But no, people - despite seeing the trailer being pulled by a civilian vehicle and clearly lacking any other markings- have asked me why the police force invested in such a large phone booth.  Even after I explain that the sign is just from a tv show, I have been asked if there was really a phone in there to call the police. /facepalm

For a vacation, it's really pretty cheap.  If you tie the purse strings, you can stay under $500 per a person for the full two weeks.   The biggest expense for me at Pennsic is boarding the animals.  Luckily, the dog can go to Camp Grandma.  The cat...well, "Grandpa" is allergic to him so the cat gets boarded.

Well, even with the built-in box sharpeners, some people will never be more than a smudge in the crayon rainbow...  ;)  heheh

It's been several years since we could afford any sort of vacation at all, unfortunately, and at $1K for the two of us I'd say it's likely never going to happen.  I'm disabled, so there isn't really any extra money in the budget... and we already refrain from buying things like $5 coffees at Starbucks, fast food or even cable TV, so cutting out any sort of "luxury expenses" would mean giving up internet service (as pretty much the only bill that isn't absolutely crucial to keeping us housed, fed and in touch with family)... which would have us sitting around staring at the walls, depressed and completely out of touch with the world around us.  And since it would be over a 2,200 mile round trip for us, just the travel expenses alone would keep us from being able to attend.  I'm guessing that unless we were to receive some sort of unexpected windfall it's just not in the cards, unfortunately.

The Doublet, Ruff, and Flat Cap for my stuffed College Mascot Doll, Goldie Gopher is finished. Goldie will be accompanying my husband and I to Europe in a few weeks. He will be properly dressed for when we visit the Tower of London, Hampton Court, Westminster Abbey, the Globe Theater, and other places in London and England.

I have much to do to prepare for this trip. But at least Goldie Gopher is ready to paint London town red.

Some of the prettiest eyelets I've done yet.

Huzzah, CS! Beautifully done. I am going to have to practice  more on handsewn eyelets when I get back from my trip.

Thank you, Rani! Leaving this Saturday for Eng,and and Wales  for a month.

Gorgeous work, CS!  I agree about the eyelets... and that sash is wonderful!  I really love the end treatment.  Can you give some details about that, please?

Sure Rani!

The end treatments are 30 brass filigree bead connectors that I hand shaped and hand sewing onto the edges of the belt. They were rather small so I
overlapped them to filled the edges. There are 3 on each "side" and then I wanted to have a little extra weight to the back of the belt and have it look nice if it flipped over so I sewed one more disc on each side to finish it off.

For the pearl drops I started out with beading head and eye pins just looped in place, but they didn't have much movement to them. So I took them off and reattached them with some jump rings

Very creative, and original!  I love using filigree stampings in new ways, myself, but I haven't ever layered them on fabric, before.  Definitely food for thought!  Thank you for sharing!  :)

It just occurred to me that I never shared photos of my finished Elizabethan middles--Tudor Tailor English fitted gown in duck green velvet and bronze taffeta; black TT sleeves; hat and caul from Lynn McMasters's Elizabethan Arched Brim Hat pattern. I'm thrilled with how it all finally came together!

There are some more views and construction details on my dress diary.

I made every stitch of clothing I have on there--except one thing. Silverstah/Laura made my chemise with the black edging, a bazillionty-one years ago. :D

Thanks for looking!
