Sir Michael Geare

Wanted: Talented, interactive, energetic performers to serve as time travel guides. The Time: The English Renaissance (circa 1540 -1603). The Place: The Renaissance Pleasure Faire at the beautiful Santa Fe Damn Recreation Area in Irwindale, CA. The Travelers: An audience of thousands looking for an opportunity to experience YOU!

The Renaissance Pleasure Faire offers a range of unique performing opportunities. We emphasize performer/audience interaction; performers should have a flair for improvisation and be able to create spontaneous dialogue with fellow cast members and the audience. A theatrical training is a plus but not essential. Performers at the Faire develop tremendous confidence, audience awareness as well as character and improvisational skills.

Classes and rehearsals begin March 13, 2010. The Faire runs weekends from April 10 through May 23, 2010.

Download the PDF file, 2010_Audition_notice.pdf, for this same WHAT, WHEN, and WHERE info.

Featured Players

We are seeking dynamic, gregarious, "larger than life" actors with a love for environmental theatre. Keen knowledge of the time period is preferred.

Theatre training and improvisational skills are a plus as you will be interacting with fellow cast members and the audience. You must be willing to work in an outdoor environment during the summer. You will need to be available to join the cast full time and to rehearse as scheduled. Some characters will be costumed by the faire.

You will need to prepare one comedic and one dramatic monologue no more than 3 minutes in length. Be prepared to participate in improvisational exercises. Some roles are paid.

Musicians & Variety Performers

We are seeking talented, dynamic, interactive musicians and variety performers/acts. Musicians are needed with early music repertoire (both English and World) to help create the "sound track" and ambience of the faire as strolling or stationary performers. The use of period instruments is strongly suggested but not required. You must be willing to work in an outdoor environment during the summer. You will need to be available to join the cast full time and to rehearse as scheduled.

You will need to prepare and be ready to present two contrasting period songs, one up tempo and one lyrical, no more then 3 minutes in length. Variety performers / acts should be ready to present the best 5 minutes of your act. Opportunity for pay possible but not guaranteed.

Towns Folk

We are seeking fun-loving, energetic and imaginative performers to portray and represent the varied zany citizens of all classes of our Elizabethan English port town.

Theatre training and improvisational skills are a plus as you will be interacting with fellow cast members and the audience. You must be willing to work in an outdoor environment during the summer. You will need to be available to join the cast full time and to rehearse as scheduled.

This is an "improv" audition so please come ready and dressed for movement. If you have any special talents you would like to demonstrate for us, please be ready to do so.

The "Town Folk" auditions are for those who aren't already members and aren't affiliated with an existing group.

Reminder:  The Guild of St Cuthbert is always recruiting.  My email icon is active.

(I'll let Ryan pitch his own group.  :>) )

My group, the Gentlemen Adventurers, is currently not recruiting.  Although those who are interested in swordfighting and learning to swordfight can check out the Bankeside Schoole of Defense (www.bankeside.org).  Most members of the group currently train from this schoole.

Court auditions were in October. (It takes a while to get the costumes together, as well as we have several rehearsals before faire starts)
