When we were in NZ I really peeked the intrest of a good friend of mine telling her about Scarby. We are plotting seeing about trying to get her over here for a couple weeks next year during the run.  I've got a couple questions for you.

1)  Which time frame would be best? A) right around opening weekend?  B) Around closing weekend?

2)  How should we prep someone who has never been to the states before, much less to one of our faire?
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

How fun!  I would think earlier in the Scarby run would be best since it will be cooler in temperature.  Closing weekend was HOT!

If she is planning to be in the country for a good while, take her to some of the great places DFW has to offer as well.  The stockyards, take her to boot scootin', ya know the 'cowboy' stuff. :)

Or if she comes down in the TRF season, camp for sure! :)

We are thinking of having it so we live close enough we can go multiple weekends with her.  It still looks like it is going to be 2K to get her here but it is a thought.

She is worried she wouldn't be welcomed.  I told her give us a chance and she would be surprised how nice we can be.

Wouldn't be welcomed?! No way!  ;D  Have her sign up on the forum so she can see our pics and start chatting with everyone.

She should be more worried about not wanting to go home and leave faire i would say.

Early April when the weather is cooler and the bluebonnets blooming would be a good time.

Yes, sign her up on the forum. Also make sure she looks at some of the photo sites to get an idea of what it is about.

You might want to stear her away from the day of wrong piccys.  LMAO

LOYALTY is not amongst them.

I'd lean towards Mid-April too due to the ungodly heat that May can bring. Especially if she might want to dress in garb at the last minute, you'd probably hate to have her pass out before lunch from the heat!

Encourage her to visit the site. She can read the posts for everything but John's inn without being registered, so she can scope it out even before creating an account!

Al-Nimer

I'd vote for Mid-April as well.  Better to take a chance of rain and cool over a chance of 90+ degree heat (which can be any day in May!)  You should tell her that we have people at faire from "all over the world" with all different types of accents, so one more will fit right in  ;D

She is use to rain, by living in Wellington.  Granted being in GARB and in the rain, is different than being in mundanes and in the rain. And she is the type of person who would go in garb any chance she got.
Heat she is ok with but not texas heat, so it looks like we will see about trying to get her out here in April of next year.  No promises yet it will happen but it is  nice thought.

Earlier in the season, definately!

Oh, BTW LadyStitch, If you let us know her name and when she'll be there, we can see about giving her a shout-out from the parapet  ;)

Any one of the first three weekends would be best.

They need to pack light clothing; black is right out. The water will be different so a handy supply of immodium AD would be good until their system adjusts. Same solution for the unexpected reaction to heavily spiced Tex-Mex food.

As far as prepping for Faire, google renfaire videos and let them see those. Comfortable shoes with thick-neoprene soles for the rocks on the paths.

Your Majesty, willst thou also shout out to mine groom and me on the day of our wedding if we are there by opening?  :P  Man, I am sooooo stoked!

Ladystitch, if you are there April 23, please feel free to join us in the Wedding Garden at 1pm...we'd love to show your friend how we get married in Scarborough.

Wouldn't be welcomed?!? You may tell her for Merlin the Elder that we are most excited at the prospect of making her acquaintance! Not welcomed indeed!

They don't have ren faire's over there so she is not sure what to expect.  I simply told her (I know this sounds bad but it is the closest I can think of for her). "You know how nuts you are about making your cos play stuff.  Think about a whole village of people who wear garb that is of characters they read about, created, or just wish they could be. Oh and there is beer!"

I think she will have a blast, IF we can get her here for next year. So, keep your fingers crossed.

Got the fingers crossed, the toes crossed, and the eyes crossed (mom hates it when I do that!)
