Long Mars, by Terry Pratchett. Part 3 of the Long Earth series; a very intriguing sort of idea.

Merlin the Elder

I just began a book given to me by a dear, sweet friend, called "Harpo Speaks." Just a chapter or so into it, but really enjoying it!

My current favorite author is still Naomi Novik-She is writing a delicious alternative history of the Napoleonic Wars...where both sides use dragons in combat.  Outstanding author, well researched and exceptional attention to detail.
It's highly unusual to have a female author write a male lead character (who's dragon is also male).   Lots of combat and political maneuverings; and her intensely detailed descriptions of famous historical figures (Nelson) and the sometimes insanely stiff hierarchy of the Royal Navy are spot on.
Was reading the back cover on the last of the Temeraire novels (thus far) that I finished this weekend. Novik reports that the film rights for this series have been picked up by Peter Jackson of LOTR fame.
This would make a fantastic series of movies...Sort of Master and Commander meets Dragonheart.

Oh, yeah! Typically, I would stay far away from autobiographies, so I am quite grateful for being turned on to this book.

How do you like Graceling so far?  Even though it's 'young adult' it's a good read, a bit like the original Vampire Diaries. which I borrowed from my daughter when she was a teen.
  I didn't like the sequel-'Bitterblue'-as much.
Maybe it's because I read the first one in paperback and the second on Kindle, but the writing style seemed more disjointed to me.

Young adult books are often extremely well-written, and enjoyable. I think some of it might be because they're not trying to add much of the filler stuff some of the adult authors either want to add, or are encouraged to add.
My daughter felt the same way about Graceling and Bitterblue. She  loved Graceling, and was disappointed in the sequel.

Re-reading the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson.  Currently on book seven.  Awesome epic fantasy with amazing depth and breadth.  If you haven't read it and love fantasy, love complex story lines and great character development check it out!
