Backstory- I'm a member of the Houston Rodeo, on a committee that hosts a night club on the grounds. One of the nights that my team is working is the KISS concert (you read that right, KISS at the rodeo ;D) , and some of us are going to don KISS makeup, for grins.

Those of you who wear theater makeup, what brand(s) would you you prefer for something like this? I know I need durability- I expect to be in it pretty much all day. I know I'll have to purchase pretty soon to have time to play with application before the March 15 concert date.

Thanks!

I like Ben Nye stuff, but that's what I've used the most because that's what's most available where I am.  I prefer pancake over cream.  Krylon is the brand I've used second most, and they are also good.  I haven't used Mehron stuff nearly as much, but they seemed pretty good the little I've used it.  I think you should be fine, as long as you go with one of the major brands.

As for durability, in my experience it's much more influenced by how well you powder the makeup than by what brand you use.  As long as you're using the good stuff, not a Halloween kit.  That crap will not set no matter what you do!

The ideal is airbrush makeup.  However, I highly recommend Ben Nye, then Kryolan.  Mehron is OK.  All of these are a step above the Halloween crap.

Whatever you do, avoid the Halloween crap like the plague.  It doesn't set, it likely won't go on even, and may have things that are really not skin friendly.  You get what you pay for when it comes to makeup.  However, it isn't too expensive.  You can start with a Ben Nye wheel (WK-11) for about $9.00 or so, which has white and black.  Kryolan sells a silver for about $5 (Supracolor).  Yes, the Halloween is cheaper than the $15-20, but I wouldn't want to trust my skin to random stuff fresh off a ship from China with Bog knows what for ingredients in it, so I stick with the top tier brands.
