Moderators...please don't move this until after the weekend. I understand it has a better place but I need help soon from the Scarby folk.

This is a shot in the dark...but hey.... worth a try.
I ordered a sword and it appears it will be here much sooner than expected... and I have no baldric or any way of carrying it.
Here's the sword:

I was thinking of going to Tandy leather tomorrow and getting some stuff to make a simple baldric so I can carry this in the parade this weekend.
ANY ideas are welcome.... ANY at all.

Is buying at Faire an option?  Because there are all those wonderful leatherworks just everywhere!

Ummm.. the thing is... these are so ... ummm... unique? To everyone.

It's hard to just pick a pre-made leather baldric from a rack and it fit and be designed how you want it and lay properly....  .....

ummm... tough one...

I know what i want it to do and look like...just not sure how to make it happen.

Go see Rev at Rev's Leatherwerks... and take the sword with you.  He could probably fit something while you wait, and for a really reasonable price.

I second Rev but did you get the metal sheaf too?  If so Rev has has great belt straps for that sheaf I use them when I don't want to wear a baldric.

Sidekick made his, Merlin. Leather, dye, and little buckle gizmos. But you'll need to get moving - takes some time to cut, sew and dye the stuff. I mentioned your post, maybe he'll come by and reply :)

Rev's would be a good option in a hurry.  If you have time to make one yourself I salute you.  And Ketts sidekicks is a great job.

The sword you purchased seems to have the same type scabbard as the USMC Officer's Sword.  Look at this link:

You could purchase the frog ($23.75) and the sword sling ($75.00) and wear them on a regular leather belt.  Kinda spendy, but may be what you need for this weekend.

Yes sir...I did.

Have you noticed that I'm like the only one who gets a lender from the cottage on a regular basis?
I'll go by Rev's.... maybe a belt strap is the ticket.

It would at least give you something for the weekend, and then you can shop around for a baldric at your leisure...

Oh we have others that get loaners on a regular basis we call them Pikemen  :)    I think you will like the belt straps from Rev's I like mine.

Scott,

I am never on here anymore and just saw this.  You should have asked me this weekend when we talked.   ;)

An easy solution for it which is also appropriate historically is to make a leather baldric that crosses over your shoulder and holds the scabbard (sheath is for a knife) vertical to the ground.  One end of the leather attaches to the front ring and the other end attaches to the back ring.  There are numerous ways of attaching the baldric to each ring but a simple way is passing it through the ring, folding it over on itself and sewing it together.  A simple leather punch, awl, or pair of pliers with a heavy needle will work.  You can just add a buckle on the front edge of the baldric on the lower third section of leather on the chest side.

I would be glad to help you out if you want to send me dimensions and chest measurements.
