...the rest of my season.  :(

My apartment got broken into Friday night, and in addition to my laptop, the theives inexplicable stole my duffle bag of Rengarb.  Fifteen years of memories, knives, pouches, pins (including my R/F pin, not sure if those are still available), mugs, and other collectibles...gone.

They took my basket-hilt and my rapier.  And even though the box was sitting right next to my bag of Rengard, they left my brand-new Sandlar boots.

I have renters' insurance, so I'll get most of my stuff back, I just won't have anything back in time for closing weekend.  So I guess I'll see everyone at TRF!

I mean, who steals a duffle bag full of Rennie clothes?

haleyileaha

Oh no that's so terrible.  I'm sorry. To me the garb would be worse than the electronics because of the sentimental value, all the memories and such so I'm sure your feeling pretty bummed. :(

Damn, that sucks!  The weapons I guess I can understand ('oooh, shiny!'), but why steal a bag o' clothes?  That's just mean.

That is so horrible! It makes me ill just thinking about it.
But if its any consolation, they're probably so dumb that they'll be caught sooner rather than later.
Watch ebay for your garb.

Ugh that's awful Batninja.

Oh wow, I am sorry this happened to you!

It makes you wonder if the thief even looked in the bag.... it doesn't seem like garb would be something easy to pawn for cash.  But who knows.  ???

Having had garb stolen when our car was stolen several years ago, I totally empathize.  Check the local secondhand stores for the garb and check pawn shops for the weapons.

I hope you get things back. :(

Was the weapons in the bag with the clothing? Our guess is that they just took the bag thinking you had all kinds of 'goodies' in there.

Someone told me today that someone broke in and store they dagger they have had on their person for 30 years. Depressed doesn't cover it.  :( :'(
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

That is just horrible! I will put a curse on the thief! POOF!
Hugs! I am so sorry for your loss! Stealing garb is rotten!

They most likely saw the knives, and then used the bag to transport the loot.  When my office was broken into two years ago, they carried stuff out in our trash cans.

You might get lucky and find some of it in a dumpster or pawn shop.

CaptMarga, that reminds me of a story from years past (when you get old, you tell stories...)

A friend who worked for Radio Shack had taken home some boxes to put some garbage in to take to the dump. He went to work with the boxes in the back of his pickup. While he was inside, someone stole all the boxes out of his pickup truck. I can just imagine their surprise when they got home with their loot and found dirty diapers (or whatever) in the boxes of "stereo equipment." Don't you just love karma?

   Man, that just sucks.
Most likely they don't even know what they have and throw it away, or if it's fancy enough they may give it to kids to play dress up.

I remember when notices were posted on the renboards, that a member had a suitcase stolen out of her car that contained an entire noble gown and accessories.  She wanted everybody to watch ebay and Craigslist for the outfit, since it was unique and valuable and she had made it herself, so it had that much more sentimental value.   I don't know that it was ever found.
Other places to notify would be costume outlets.  We have a theatrical supply place that buys used costumes, and renaissance garb is in big demand for plays and rentals.   Describe your items and let them know the stuff was stolen.   Offer a small reward if they are recovered.

If you have any pics of the garb, especially if there is something unique or distinctive, post them. That way if someone here sees something, you might be able to get your stuff back AND catch a thief.

batninja

That's a good idea.  Unfortunately, not much of it is 'unique'; everything can be found either online or at EVERY Renfest from here to Narnia.  I still may post pictures, anyway, because of my vanity.   :)

I'm patiently waiting on my insurance check, so I can commence to buyin' again.  Already received my replacement R/F pin!

Here I am from a couple weekends ago...

From this picture, I'm missing the sword, baldric, mug, bracers, sporran w/strap, and the belt.  I'm a nekkid lil' highlander now...

having been a victim of a home invasion years ago (and lost over 22K in stuff), I'll offer if you'd like a new belt, bracers to replace the ones you lost.  Free.

Eamil me off list, with your belt size, color of buckle, wrist measurements and give me the next two months or so to get them done and I'll send them to you so you can be ready for next year.

"Because I can" ;)

batninja

I appreciate the offer, I really do.  :)

But I'm an apprentice leather guy myself, and already have the replacement belt in the works.  As far as the bracers go, I'm making a trip back to the Scot Schoppe at Scarby this weekend, as they were the only place that seemed to have this particular style (stitched, double-banded with buckles instead of laces).

Regardless, that's very generous of you!

Batninja, any update on your sword, baldric, mug, bracers, sporran w/strap, and the belt?

Not a peep.  So I've decided to slowly rebuild my character garb.  The good thing is, I don't have to buy what I no longer use, so I can 'slim down' my inventory.  I'm ordering a new Buzz Kidder sporran tonight, and the leatherwork (kilt belt and sporran strap) is already in progress.

I think Wondrous Works in Wood, the maker of my previous mug, is based about 10 miles from my house, but I'll just wait until TRF to purchase the replacement.

Waiting to hear back from a couple other vendors on pricing.

The sword, however, may be a lost cause.  The one pictured is a Cold Steel 'Horsemans Sword', and is no longer in production.  I might get lucky and find one on eBay.  Otherwise, I'll just go all conformist and get a standard basket-hilt.   :)

I just did a google search and found this

"http://blujay.com/item/Cold-Steel-Battle-Ready-Horsemans-Basket-Hilt-Broad-Swo-7070000-3260249".  I couldn't see anywhere it said Out of Stock, so maybe you'll get lucky and they have one.

Or if am blind, forgive me, I'm just trying to help

Also BudK has one

http://budk.com/Swords/Cold-Steel-Horsemans-Basket-Hilt-Broadsword

And one last place to look, Again they didn't say out of stock

I'm sure there are others if you do a Google Search.
Why do I feel like I've worn something like this before?

batninja

Outstanding work!  I'll give 'em a lookover and call before I order to make sure they've got one in stock.

Thanks again!

Did any of those Sights I posted pan out?  I hope you found a replacement for your weapon.

Please let us know.
