Thanks, Merlin TE.  I expect more hurricanes this year as well.  AFAS rain goes, the DFW area is now only 1.5" below normal for the year, but some areas are still under drought conditions.

It's amazing how quickly that changes...before our floods a couple of weeks ago, we were .65 inches below normal at 4pm Saturday, and 9 inches above normal Sunday at midnight, and it was still raining.  Moderation in all things...Mother Nature needs to take heed!

Like you said Merlin, this is one crazy weather year. I woke up this morning to find out that an area just an hour away from me was under a tornado warning, with storms and whatnot and there was no rain, no storms, nothing really where I live... Go figure.

I hope everyone stays safe!

I'm splendid. That is all.

Yes Merlin the Elder it appears that a hurricane may be all that can save parts of Texas.  We are currently over 9 inches below normal rainfall for the year (I live about 30 minutes Southeast of TRF).  I watched a show Tuesday where they interviewed various meteorologists in Houston about the drought conditions and the consensus was any year that Houston experienced this significant of a drought they were awarded a hurricane during hurricane season to make up the rainfall.  I have lived here through Alicia, Rita, and Ike and can tell you that Ike was the worst for Houston and cleanup is still occurring from that.  Now a small tropical storm or even a Category 1 hurricane would not be that bad to soak the area with much needed rainfall.  But being only 50 feet above sea level (I always said if there was no buildings you could stand in downtown Houston and see the ocean) anything above a Category 2 can cause great issues for us.  I have family in parts of Missouri that were hit and friends in the Dallas area so I feel for all the wacky weather you all have been experiencing.  We sit in a dust bowl down here by TRF though.  One piece of a good news though for our Celtic Christmas weekend..... 92% of the time if Houston gets a hurricane then we get snow that winter.  Would be cold but kind of cool for Celtic Christmas.

Snow is evil stuff. Especially if there is camping involved.
I was there at TRF for the ice/hail mess a few years back and that is just not a good time.
I was also at Scarby for the snow a couple of years ago and that was the only day I have ever left faire early (made it until around 3ish).
That being said, I would love for it to be cooler than it is right now lol
My Lovely Lady has a history of serious problems with heat including passing out so this weekend will be a lot of me watching to make sure she has plenty of fluids etc.

*Sadly, rum does not count as a fluid for helping stay cool*

Lady Trinn andn I share that trait, Teach, and I have to admire her for even being able to function down there during the "hell" months!  I seriously doubt I could survive it...  Hoping you all have gorgeously cool, pleasant weather for Scarby this weekend!

I would love for it to be 20 degrees cooler but oh well.  I don't do heat well but I am atleast aware that the heat can get me, and how it feels when it starts to get to me.  People laugh at me for the ice pack, and bodice chillers, but if they work is all I care about.

My brother works for the trucking industry and with so many trucking companies based out of southwest Missouri , they are taking a serious hit.  Granted the ones that do body work and other repairs on the trucks are making a fortune.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

HOLY SMOKES!  Temperature predictions for today are a lot higher than they were a week ago... I'm glad now that we aren't making the trip. 100° is just too much. We did that last year at closing, and it nearly killed us. At least for those that do go, it's supposed to be windy this year. That will help keep you cooler, but it is going to raise a lot of dust.

Stay hydrated!!  Have fun, all.

At around 2:30 this afternoon, I was done in do to the heat. My initial thought was just to go get out of garb and put my shorts and t-shirt on, but that wasn't to be.  We ended up coming back to the hotel.  Oh well there is always tomorrow.

Why do I feel like I've worn something like this before?

Merlin the Elder

I think it's supposed to be a little cooler tomorrow, Lady Gryphon. As I said, the heat last year was pretty rough on us. Better to be safe than sorry.

My goodness but it was hot today!  We came in late and had planned to stay until about 6pm but the heat did us in about 4:30 and we left. I'm unsure if we'll be out tomorrow. Al-Nimer will be as a performer but I may not. I really want to be at closing on Monday & that means taking it easy tomorrow.

Well I certainly hope you feel better tomorrow and that it's not as hot.  It was great to meet you and Lord Dragon at tail-gate, and thank you so much for sharing the scones!

Maybe the wizards can conjure up a cooling spell for tomorrow?  ;)

Don't forget that the first aid station by the front gate has ice water AND an air-conditioned room for those who are starting to feel ill from the heat!!!  They are happy to help with things like Gatorade, as well... so don't hesitate to make your way there if you're feeling at all overwhelmed by the weather!

There's an air conditioned room at Scarby?!? That's news to me!
