That being said, anyone want to frame a response to this recent comment for me?  I feel I can't really do it myself, for various reasons.

Captain, it is hard to frame a response without lowering oneself to their level. Unfortunately one can not choose to remain silent in the hopes their ill wind will blow over our shire never to return. Having said that...

Why do we need a Captain Jack... yada yada yada... copyright... yada yada yada... blah blah blah...

Because through the exploits of Captain Jack Sparrow our children now have a portal to the past, and a desire to learn about the real pirates of the Caribbean. Because of Captain Jack history class is now cool again.

And, more importantly - through Captain Jack our children have learned:

    a) That the code is more of a guideline than an actual set of rules.
    b) Parlay means, like it or not, you have to listen to the other side of the story.
    c) To be a good pirate you must keep to the code.

Here's to Captain Jack Sparrow, and all that act in his name - Huzzah!

My other choice was to quote from another actor who in my day became a figure every want-a-be trekkie tried their best to emulate: "If I were human, my response would be "Go To Hell..." If I were human" It is as appropriate in the 17th century as it will be in the 24th century.

Captain, this, among other positive aspects of the faire, is something I intend to speak to in my interview with CNN

What I want to know is... what did our friendly little festival ever do to attract such venom from this specific newspaper?! Why do they feel the need to slander our faire every couple of years?! I'd be especially curious to see if the article was written by the same journalist.

Because "everyone" loves a good rag. People love seeing other people, organizations, whatever, being brought down because it's then nice to be able to watch from the "righteous pedestal." I guarantee that no matter what that article said, it's not going to deter people from coming to faire.

Soooooo... not to practice thread necromancy... but I finally did write a scathing reply to that article asking them to take my picture down and addressing that one individual's comment that was so negative towards me.  Feel free to check it out and let me know if I went too far, heh.

I think you should have ignored them but that was a bloody fine response. I enjoyed it, well done

CapnJack

Yeah, you're probably right, but I have a big mouth, heh.
