Yea or Nay?

I like carousel (band organ) and calliope music and have a large collection of CDs thereof. It makes perfect bubble music. The Faire now has a band organ to the left of the Gate which they play all day. However, despite my affinity for these instruments, I find this to be glaringly inappropriate to the atmosphere of the Faire. The choice of music seems to be all polkas. It sounds like you are entering a circus rather than a Renaissance Faire. To compound the issue, some of the pipe valves are stuck open due to the humidity, creating a droning sound that frequently conflicts with the other notes being played. I can see using this at other events held on the Shire but not at Faire. What say ye... yea or nay? ???

The band organ has been removed from the from the Gate/fountain plaza, partially because it needed to be fixed and also due to the negative response of faire goers.

I feel the same as you, BubbleWright. It is possible, I think, to use SOME non-HA instrumentation and music, as long as it's not too distracting from the feel of the Faire. If I am correct in picturing the instrument you speak of, I would not care for it.

I feel the same about a Faire act that seems to be a huge crowd favorite, despite the totally (in my humble opinion) inappropriate presentation of rock music. Now, he and his apprentices seem to be at every major faire. So be it...I have to accept the fact that in domes ways, I am just a grumpy old man.
